Throw it in a pan and call it Dinner

Do you ever invent new foods?
I wanted food. We are running on reduced power, outside cooking, and a tiny fridge. So I went hunting. The fridge had some pork in bar-b-que sauce and a slice of cheese. I pulled them out and went looking in the pantry and found beans and rice. cooked it all on the grill and called it lunch.
It wasn't totally wonderful but it wasn't bad. The kids mostly ate it. Not the oldest at home kid but then she doesn't eat anything.
So what have you thrown together? And would you do it again?

I'll often take a bunch of vegetables, a little meat if I have it, and throw it in a skillet to saute. I can add some cooked noodles or rice. Sometimes I'll make a white sauce and season it and stir it in. Sometimes I'll even add some peanut butter or if I have some peanut or sesame oil I'll use that.
You can make a meal of anything if you have a few spices or other seasonings.
Are you talking about an event that happened recently? Are you really in such dire circumstances or is this just a hypothetical example?

I'm so sorry this happened!! File a complaint with the BBB, that usually gets things done very quickly. I had a gripe with my siding when it was put on and when I got no results I filed online with the BBB (Better Business Bureau) and the next day the siding company called me and I got results pronto!
I sure hope you get back to normal soon. Times are hard for so many of us, and your area is in major distress, more so than most of the country. I'll put you on my prayer list--it's getting pretty long lately!

That all sounds pretty damn tasty to me!
Back home I always used to grab leftovers and make all different kinds of "Bubble and squeak" with it. Vegertables, rice, meat..... Whatever was left over from the previous meal would get whacked into a frypan with a few beaten eggs and off I'd happily go chomping away with an omelette type concoction that looked more like roadkill!
I used to sometimes microwave large luncheon sausage chunks with centre holes scooped out of them and then stuff cheese inside them too. I wouldn't do that today unless it was an absolute last resort, but at the time I thought it was sensational!

What's for dinner? Hmmmmm, well we're done with dinner at this end and we had fish! Saved you a couple of pieces too! I hope they don't go off on the mail trip over to you.
Ah stuff it, let's just have eggs!
P & J omelettes sound bizarre and tasty all in one by the way! lol.

Yes I do try some with vegetables often, Being a vegetarian I sometimes find not enough of a particular vegetable available to cook a proper recipe. So adding all vegetables and some spices and garnishing with something attractive I make out new things which my family enjoys eating. I do try many varities of this sort often.

I made this ground-turkey/squash in gravy thing a couple weeks ago. Recently we've had this FLOOD of fresh vegetables and we've had alot of ground turkey lately too...so in an effort to use up a whole bunch of them I cut up a bunch of green peppers, a yellow squash, a small zucchini, and a carrot (with a little help), fried 'em up in the skillet with the ground turkey, added some water, some leftover turkey gravy, then added a package beef gravy and a spoonful of cornstarch for a sauce base...with black pepper, cayenne, and a spoonful of honey as flavor.
Served it all over rice.
It was a hit. =)
I make up stuff all the time. Sometimes I have inspiration for things from certain cultures or recipes I've been reading about, but occasionally I just throw stuff together and serve it up.
I've thrown together a non-boxed version of hamburger helper.
I've made stir fry's without recipes xD
I just really like to cook, and part of being a good cook is not being afraid of spontaneity.

I used to regularly throw leftovers together in a pan and heat them up together, but I rarely have leftovers anymore. I have cooked up some rice and thrown in a can of "beans with pork" (never find any pork in there) for supper for myself, though.

Hey, that's my kind of cooking. I love to create or add to recipes. In the winter I try to make nutritional but tasty meals. One I make is a rice dish. Sauted vegetables in a created sauce over rice. Sometimes the sauce is just thinken broth or sweet and sour with vinegar, cornstarch and pineapple juice. All it takes is alittle basic cooking skills and some imagination. I have done it alot!

Hello my friend TLChimes Ji,
Well, I am a entirely different person in this regard, I would not like to waste and throw any food in any form. I have a belief, if I waste, I will remain hungry one day. I cook required one and eat together, so taht it is never wasted. Further, I nevr depend on one media for cooking. We have Gas, if it fails then electricity, if that fails, fire-wood/ kerosene stove and many other resources are avilable. May God bless You and have a great time.
