Ever not get paid by someone who owed you a lot of $?

Thank, I hope it gets sorted out, too. It's an elderly couple and they have a lot of hospital bills right now. If they gave me partial payment due to hardship, I would even take that. I have bills that I need to pay.

Yeah, well, I've heard that they've gotten away with this kind of thing a lot in the past. They borrowed one woman's car and never gave it back. My brother said sometimes they paid my father for snowplowing and sometimes they didn't.

Has anyone ever taken them to the state about it? Often, people get away with things only because we let them.

They have been brought to county court several times according to a county court reporter. Not much has happened. They have a lawyer on payroll to get them out of jams. They usually pay pennies on the dollar. They're 78 and 81 years old. THey could die before the state set a date for the hearing. My state is so slow, takes a year or two to set a date on anything. Probably will have to stand in line behind everyone else to file a claim against their estate when they go.

I hope I get paid, too, but I have a couple of back-up plans, nothing that will make up the lost money though.

The most I ever had a friend borrow was a hundred dollars and she paid me back as soon as she got home from college like she promised she would. My parents loaned 4 thousand to my cousins and they tried to not pay them back. They even went to court to not pay them back. The judge asked the lawyer for them if he was crazy, just forgive 4 thousand? No.

I loaned this friend $2,000 and have gotten back half. It's been horrible trying to get it from her. She is in a terrible bind, so she says and I helped her when she needed it. Well, now I am not working and want what is mine. Not been a good experience.

That is horrible! That would bankrupt most people. That is sooo much money to loose. My father wasn't paid by a contractor. He lost $20,000 in labor plus thousands in septic tanks and pipes. Contractor went bankrupt. It was horrible. I hope you didn't suffer too much from the loss of $.

So am I. That's a lot of $ for me not to get. But I was warned that these people don't always pay their bills. They had paid me every week since the end of June, so I thought they had turned over a new leaf. But I think unexpected medical bills are part of the problem.

I truly am sorry...please don't lose your faith....it sure doesn't make a lot of people happy when you are screwed, cuz you can't pay up! I truly sympathize!

Every job I get something happens. My husband can't believe it. He had the military for 20 years and just received a 10 year pin for the job he's in now. But in my case, I am constantly having to look for new work. Nothing works out. I have 3 1/2 years before I hit 55 and can draw from my state pension and I don't know how I'll make it at this rate. I try not to be discouraged, but I've only had this job since June 30th.

Once again....so terribly sorry! Are these people legitimate employers (Gov't funding for their care)? Is there nowhere you can go? Or is it like here, the wheels of Government move so slow....and you use up all your resources trying to collect a minimal. You are sooooo talented, but a softy (like me)....best we carry a big stick. Please keep us posted!

Yes, it catches you off guard when there is no advance warning. I had to quickly sell some of my audio equipment to cover the shortfall. If you have any assets you're not using .... utilizing free classified ads or eBay may be a temporary solution to help alleviate your immediate crisis.

Hmm. Have you subtly mentioned to the couple that you are in possession of that bow and arrow? That you are highly proficient in it's use? And of course, have a highly volatile personality? Maybe they have over-active imaginations (watch too many thrillers)...and will conclude that it is in their best interest to quickly pay you.

Or maybe they'll call the police and claim I threatened them with my bow and arrow set. Two people's word against one.

You're probably right...it might be perceived as intimidation. Maybe just persistently following up is the best approach ....letting them know you aren't going to quietly go away.
A glimmer of hope to report in my situation. Today I received a notice of an e-check in progress from Paypal for the amount due. Now, I just have to wait 6-8 days to see if it clears (fingers crossed). Hope you have some positive results to report in your situation ...now that the deadline has passed.

End of July and it will be into September before you get it. I hope it goes through.

No, they now set a new deadline, "We'll have the money August 31." I like the people who suggested, send them a bill. I think it will go in the garbage, but still.
