Do you find Call Center jobs stressful? |
|
I used to be with the customer/technical support industry and one thing that shocked me was the stress i had to endure. We are usually paid and trained well but for me, stress was the very disadvantage of this job. You get yelled at, you have to solve problems real time and get pressured by a lot of stats. Although a lot of things could be developed, like conversational skills, analytical and many others but you can never avoid the kind of stress it brings. Its not the worst job though, i just want to know if you feel the same way as i do.

1. kent_help2smile (2052) | 5 months ago | The feeling you have is same with mine. I am a Helpdesk Coordinator in my job that concerns with Software. I am responsible of picking up the phone everytime it rings. I have to answer the phone before it goes 3 rings. I have to get and log the concern client before I could transfer the call to respective accounts.
Most of the time i say. I feel the stress in my work. Phones is non stop. Sometimes I wish that even just in 30 minutes. Telephone stop ringing.
Regarding with the attitude of the clients. I have no choice but to pacify them.
What keeps me going is that at the end of the day. I can go home early, earn money and be with my boyfriend. That's it.

sujuwonder (180) | 5 months ago | That is so true, the telephone ring makes me sick sometimes. And when we are there, we have no choice but to talk to the clients and make sure they get the answers they need. But as of how you end your day, spending time with a loved one is a complete stress reliever.. that's perfect!

2. wrangel15 (834) | 5 months ago | I have a friend who also worked on a call center. I can see at her that call center jobs are really stressful. To think she will also work during night shifts.
She quit her job and chose a less stressful job so as to retain the health of her body.

3. Theresaaiza (1601) | 5 months ago | Hi sujuwonder, I have never worked in call centers ever, and I doubt if I ever will although I think when it comes to English, I really wouldn't have much problem.
I do know that most call centers have what they call "graveyard shift" where an agent works at night and goes home in the morning. It is much like the NOC shift of nurses. I can relate to that because being a nurse, I have worked for NOC shifts and even if there really isn't much work sometimes, the fact that you're supposed to sleep at night and because of the job, you can't, that makes it really hard!

sujuwonder (180) | 5 months ago | yes, night shift was one of my reasons for quitting the job. I am a night person but i can't just help but feel helpless sitting there for 8hours and just talk. I also had issues with my health that's why i had to quit the job.

5. macdingolinger (1227) | 5 months ago | My son worked at a call center for a little while when he was finishing up high school. He talked about the stress related to the job. He said in some ways it was a very easy job and then in some it was very difficult. He has pretty good conversational and analytical skills, but said the job was one of the most difficult he's ever had. It was just so stressful and hard to not take rejection personal. He also spoke of how rude a lot of the people were when he called them.

6. bird123 (1207) | 5 months ago | i have a friend who works in a call center. Corporate America doesn't care about these people at all. My friend has a time limit on how long they can stay on the phone.Get the customer on and off quickly. Their calls were recorded and listened to for quality assurance. They can't leave anything out even though they are rushed. If they have to go to the bathroom, they must be back in seven minutes. Every second must be accounted for. The pay isn't great either. Needless to say it takes a special person to be able to do it. They have a high turn over rate. No need to wonder why.

8. Nikigirl613 (107) | 5 months ago | I have worked in several different type of call centers, and let me tell you, no matter how badly I ever needed a job again, I think I'd have to be one step off living in the street to ever work at one again. The stress, the people screaming at you, whether you are sales or customer service, the way people treat you is absolutely ridiculous, and some of them get you to call them specifically to speak to you in a disgusting and vulgar manner. I found it to be horrid regardless of which job it was and what I was doing there. The stress is awful, and as a result of working there, I'm a girl, and I hate to have to be on the phone with anyone. I hate when the phone even rings sometimes. This seems to be getting better the longer I am away, but still - it's for the birds - imo.

10. trisha27 (499) | 5 months ago | I'd have to agree with you on this one. I have worked for call centers a lot and they do seem to be stressful as you say. I did the whole customer service thing as well as sales and for a while did technical support. All of those were stressful, but the technical support in my opinion wasn't so bad. Just the fact that you were dealing with people with technical issues. But I hated having customers yell at me for situations that weren't even my fault especially when it was their fault for not paying the bill. So at least once a day you had one customer who yelling at the top of their lungs at you. So yes working at a call center can be very stressful. I am no longer working at a call center any more because of all the stresses. Imagine trying to sale products to an angry customer also that just got through yelling at you lol. That was a lot of fun.
