What is it with these interest rankings and levels?

I just had a look at these and was suprised to discover I have a position in interests I'm not even interested in, and of a higher level than those I tend to participate it. I think one is the highest level but how many people in say level 17 to move through to hit level 16. Just curious to see if other mylotters pay any attention to these things. Obviously an interest which interests no one is going to give a high ranking but does it mean anything? Do you try to rise through the ranks. You'll all be wowed to know that I am rated highest in the interest of Panathikiakos whilst knowing not a single jot about football beyond our national team wears green.
Also we often don't raalise which interest we are posting in until we've responsed so can find ourselves unwittingly ranked in subjects we don't want to be associated with.

Hi thea,
I never bother with this ranking and levels since we got nothing from it. Our rank and level will be higher if we active in that interest.
The Panathiakos interest is not for you, thea. That is for your son
. That is his discussion after all. And FYI, you football team wear a blue color jersey. The green is for the Panathiakos club. The red color for the Olyimpiakos.

Hi akuler, as I said today is the first time I've noticed them and don't really see the point at all either except that I might make one later just for a bit of amusement.
Now I have just been informed by the expert of the house, a die hard fan, a follower, that you are emphatically WRONG. They wear green and white. The ones whose name dared not be mentioned locally you are correct with though, they wear red. But PANI wear white and green. Which just shows I deserve my ranking as number one in that area even though I know nothing about football. Just off to do a quick exeperiment, please answer back when you have checked the interest ranking of yourself in this subject.

Sorry you can't win on this one akuler, after all you are aruging with the foremost mylot ranked number one on our national football team. Now I don't care what some internet encyclopedia chooses to print erroneously but they wear GREEN.
I've even seen them myselves on the taverna screen wearing GREEN. You are wrong here, my ten year old even confirmed it for you early. Now where's our Romanian expert when we need him?
OK I may have not rated your first football reply so check it tomorrow and you should be number two even though you declined the interest. Just as well I hasten to add when you don't even know they wear GREEN.

D*mn!! I did it again
.
I refer to this,
our national team wears green.
Your national team wear all white for home games and all blue for away games.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greece_national_football_team
You might not rate it yet because I can see it in my profile about my rank in that interest. I say "no, thank you" after reply to your discussion

I post and post regardless of which interest the discussion is placed in and there are only two interests which I know I have purposely avoided.
A user profile says an awful lot about a person and the interest ranking tells it all.
Over a year ago I received a response from another Lotter who literally scolded me because the only interest that I was active in was one of the money ones. Now that situation has altered considerably and there are some interests that I had no idea even existed. There is however one which, if taken in the wrong context, could be intended in a different way - so far so good

By looking at the interest rankings, another user can see what we are interested in.
Iappear to be very interested in making money...

Have to disagree there mys, how can an interest ranking tell more about oneself than the profile page, not that either really tell anything one hopes. But not only have i been highly ranked in Sandra's absolutely not of my interest interest but I'm also very high up in liking dogs and killing bugs, whereas in reality I am terrified of dogs and much prefer others to kill my bugs for me. I don't even know what made me notice them today as they appear to me to be a total irrelevance but i'm still curious if others do try to hit an interest and rise through its ranks.

It doesn't matter that you don't have an interest on your interest page. If you respond to a discussion started under a certain interest and get "+" ratings, you will get ranked under that interest. At least you chose the Panathinaikos interest (or at least your son did) and you start discussions under this topic. There are topics where I'm very well ranked, without choosing that as an interest (just like I'm now ranked 5 in Panathinaikos
).
).

There are still some things about myLot that are a complete blur for everybody, and the administrators don't seem to care about it, so I thinks we shouldn't bother about it, as it's obvious we won't be getting any response... It's just like the earning algorithm - a total secret.

Hi stvasile there has been much debating on this on the first page of the discussion and I also assumed, as you have just done, that a + rating ranked one in the interest leaderboard, only to discover today it is not necessary. Yesterday I had a half line intruder with a post count of one enter my discussion and I did not rate him as he did not make a positive contribution, yet today he had a higher ranking than others who were + rated and responded before him and at greater length
so I'm now no wiser. Obviously to respond at all ranks you somewhere but higher than people who've been rated positive, there appears to be no logical reason behind it all. I understand you were duped into this interest but it pelleases you really. I've noticed today that I'm ranked 7 out of more than 35,000 in life with absolutely no idea how that came about, unless it is level 7, I will look at it sometime.

hi thea I really dont know much about interests either but'so many times I am asked if I want to put one interest in my file and a lot
of times this one doesnt interest me at all like one a while'back that
asked if I wanted to add the interest bad people I like and the thing that produced that was some discussion about Hitler and he is not a bad person I like, how hideous to make an interest so bizarre.now had they asked me if i wanted to add as an interest bad people I hate I would have sad sure. but religion and politic are two I know I willsay no on as they are just too controversial here. I come in peace not to diss anyone or to be dissed.

That's a first Hatley, bad people I like. Well if you responded to someone in there even if you chose no I most emphatically do not want to be part of this interest you now are and stuck with it to. It won't show under your actual interests but there's a rather silly section which shows your 'ranking in an interest' and for all you know you could be highly ranked there as a valued member of the 'bad people I like' ranked interests.
Always try to keep out of politics and religion myself for the same reason Hatley.
Answered a friends dicsussion yesterday which he'd place in religion and I didn't realise till I answered it. Next thing I know is someone came along trying to convert me

I JUST MEANT ON MY INTEREST PAGE DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT RANKINGS ETC. I don't venture out much on mylot or the computer period. When i went to put the pie where i keep things i saw an ant so i opened the box & there were more. I had read a discussion here while back where a lady found ants in something she had bought at the store. Can't remember who wrote it now. Have a good night,Thea.

Aunty you can't delete them. You can delete an interest as a topic but you can't delete it from your rankngs in that interest, even if the interest is no longer there. But there again who cares, there's nothing we can do. Still can't get over you nearly eating those ants.

Hi Kitty, I'd give it a miss unless you're feeling bored, the answer appears to be that we end up in an interest we have no interest whatsoever in just because we respond to someone who chooses to put their interest there. And there's nothing to be done about it. I tend to stick most of my discussions under life as a rule, as they are all about such happening things.

No, I have very few clues. Just found out, by rewarding best response, that I am #1 in be frugal. I think, however, we also have an interest "frugal living" I have not really tried to rise in the ranks of anything, just post what I think of from time to time.

I think BR counts in your ranking in an interest. It may also just be how many posts in that interest, or even how many words used by you in that interest. I find that when I receive BR my earnings go up a cent. I think when I reward BR my earnings go up a cent the next day as well, but not sure on that one.

Hi Gerty this is becoming a bit of fun as apparently what these rankings do is actually show our interests, in things we may not actually be the slightest bit interested in, and what's more we can't distance ourselves from this topics of interest even if we choose to. So we end up with far more interests in our rankings than interests we have chosen. Something of no consequence at all to mull over.

I Don't Get Into The Details Of Everything .. I Just Want to Have Fun And The Cash Registers Should Keep Ringing .. As Long As These Two Criteria Are Met, I Don't Complain .. Do Enjoy Your Ranking ..

Yes Prash, but if we didn't keep banging these questions out as a bit of frivoility how are you going to keep your cash register ringing. You have fun by answering and you make money by doing so, there's no need at all to go into the details of it all, but if it rasies a little frivolity along the way, plus explains why I am now ranked high in the subject of dogs, which I have no interest in beyond knowing that they bite and bark, then why not make a little discussion about it.
The ranking means nothing as it appears to be upside down anyway. Now I really missed my point there as tried to enter my point with an innocent English expression which mylot didn't like, deja vu with spotted d*ck the other day.

The one thing I have noticed is that if I respond to a subject in an interest I haven't marked as one, I have the option to add it, or not, to my own list of interests.

Hi Peaceful, well we've just been discussing this above and even Mike has admitted I've discovered something he didn't know. If we press no thanks to adding an interest but respond to it then we still get a ranking in it even though it isn't added as an interest. I'm here creating this topic as really have no idea what it's all about either.

Hi taztheone, i think you're the first one to reply who actually bothers about your interest ranking, we've discovered it's possible to be very highly ranked in an interest if it is indeed an interest which has little interest to anyone else. Thus if you can find such an interest and contribute to it you will easily achieve a magnificently high ranking.

Yes, I am a newbie here and I have to say I haven't worked it all out yet, and find it a little confusing! I need to go and do a little exploring!
I have been pleasantly surprised by how friendly the people are on here, though, and how many interesting discussions and thoughtful topics I've got into, so I guess I will keep it up and learn as I go!

Hello again English Tea Duck, absoluetely nothing to be gained by all this interest ranking malarky so best advised to look at more useful things to find your way around on here. There are lots of friendly people on here as well as a few frutcakes who have crawled out of the biscuit tin but hopefully you'll soon be able to spot the difference.

, don't really understand it but thats fine with me, I will not lose a wink of sleep lol
