Going on a fast food "fast". No fast food for a MONTH! |
|
Have any of you made resolutions like this? I know it's not the beginning of a new year, but I'm randomly deciding (after cleaning out my car..And getting rid of TONS of fast food to-go bags), that I want to quit eating fast food. I probably eat it about 3 times a week as it is and sometimes even MORE than that!
So I decided that starting tomorrow (well, technically today and yesterday, too, because I haven't had it) - I'm going to "quit" eating fast food for a month. Or for as long as I can.
I hope that this will help me keep on the right track as far as eating healthy, and also possibly help me save some money.
Have you ever done anything similar to this? How did it go? How long did you go without eating fast food? Is there anything I can do to help me "break the addiction"? Any tips?
I'd love to get your guys' help.

1. mymelodake (903) | 5 months ago | I think I have, though I didn't follow it perfectly. Sometimes, for convenience's sake I still ate at fast food joints, but I only ate very little. I stopped eating french fries completely and potato chips (I was so sad, they're my favorite, but I was more focused on weight loss), and I stopped ordering soda. At restaurants, (we usually go for japanese or chinese) I ordered tea. At home though, we always have soda, so when I felt like I just needed it, I just took a sip. Funny thin is, my mom kept buying me dark chocolate during that time, so I used it tokind of reward myself. I don't eat the whole bar, just a little bit, usually just 1 serving indicated on the pack.

3. khayshenz (1093) | 5 months ago | I think it's a good goal - not eating it for a month. But if you're addicted, so-to-speak, I think that you should start with just one week. So this whole week - you're goal is no fast food. Once you're successful with this whole week, go for two weeks, then do the one month. If you pull-out too soon, you'll burn out and you'll be back where you started. You're better off taking baby steps.
I don't eat a lot of fast food. I like to cook. And I take my lunch to work with me - so it's typically a veggie salad of some sort. Cheap, easy, healthy! Good luck!

maezee (4968) | 5 months ago | Yes, definitely. A month is most definitely an extreme goal, so you're right about taking baby steps (it usually works much better than cold turkey). It sounds like you do what I would like to do in the near future - pack healthy meals instead of having to eat unhealthy fast food. Thanks for your input!

4. snowy22315 (8140) | 4 months ago | That sounds like a good resolution to keep. You should keep us posted and let us know how you are doing. I should try that one also. It seems like I am eating alot of fast food when I go to do errands. I should try to eat before I go so I dont run into that problem. I don't need to be eating fast food either unless it would be a salad or something.

5. arun2009 (3227) | 4 months ago | Lol, sorry no tips, strong determination can help you quit. I think everybody irrespective of age is fund of junk foods. Some of the junk foods sold in the Junk food stalls and roadside stalls are real tasty. I too eat with my wife and other family member, Indian food items like ‘dosa’, ‘idli’, ‘singada’, ‘kachodi’ are my favorites. I only go to those who use good quality cooking oils, tomoto sauce, chilli sauce etc. Thank you so much for this nice discussion. keep sharing, happy posting, have a great day, cheers ARUN
