Update - After the big needle in my spine  email this discussion to a friend?

myLot reputation of 62/100. AngryKittyMSV (1913)   ranked 5 out of 72 in chronic pain 3 years ago

Hi everybody! Yesterday I posted a few minutes before I had to leave my house to get a painful procedure done to help with the agony I live in. I am not up to responding to all your thoughtful replies in that discussion today but I wanted to let you know I'm alive.

I told the doctor and his assistant how badly I felt after the first spinal injection last moth, how I was in so much pain for days afterward, but because I felt better after those few days than I did before the shot he thought I should proceed and he and his assistant would approach the nerve from a different direction and in a new way from the way they did the first time. It still hurt like hell (but a bit less than the first time) and driving myself home was sheer torture. Then I had to go and wait at the pharmacy for my pain medicine and by the time I finally got home I felt like I would die. Hubs stepped up to the plate in a big way and did a lot of the things I normally do including sparing me from having to get up and down to give our daughter her dinner. Then he gave our daughter a bath and made sure to pick my son up for me and move him to wherever he needed to be in the house so I could change him and feed him and stuff. The only time I had to pick up the baby was after his last diaper change to put him in his crib because my husband was busy getting our little girl off to bed.

I had a rough night with the pain but less sore today, just exhausted.

I didn't get much sleep and some bozo called my house in the middle of the night which I will rant about in a new discussion before I get off of mylot for a while to try to rest before the kids wake up. I'm supposed to work tonight, but I don't know if I'll be up to that.

Hi Marriane
So glad for this post and to know that it all went OK, though reading about the process gave me the creeps coz I am just not comfortable with a needle jabbing my spine. I hope you recover fast and be your cheery self again.
BTW, I don’t mean to intrude, but I do hope you have ensured that there’s no other therapy than the spinal job. Would you like to try alternative therapies like yoga? What exactly is this spinal jab for….does it inject any pain-reliving, nerve relaxing liquid or is it akin to acupuncture?

It puts anti inflammatory and pain medicine in there. I had asked about the pain patch before but was told that my nerve problem is too deep to be reached by it.

I don't have any kind of coverage for alternative therapies, but I do plan to ask this doctor if there are other avenues we can explore.

myLot reputation of 91/100. sudiptacallingu (8859)  3 years ago

Hi Marianne,
I dont know how expensive alternative therapies are at your place, but here we have yoga centres where one can enrol for not a very high fee. They train you to do mild physical exercise depending on your condition, breathing exercise and meditation which you can then do on your own at home. I was actually talking of this...yoga if practised over a prolonged period, is known to work wonders for many chronic ailments of the body. Since its a nerve problem, I am more worried...see if you can find any such centres around your place.

Hi Kitty, glad it went ok, hope you have chance to read my comments on yesterdays one. It must have been a lesser injection than the one I was talking about by the way as there is no way a hospital would allow you to drive home after those. They make you lie flat for at least 4 hours before you can even leave.

myLot reputation of 62/100. AngryKittyMSV (1913)   ranked 5 out of 72 in chronic pain  3 years ago

I left shortly after posting hte discussion, I put it up while waiting for my babysitter to arrive and then I was out the door. I did read your posts, thank you for the good information. My mom gets the similar shots to mine, but her doctors (in a different part of my state) used to put her to sleep for it and even without anesthesia they don't want her driving home. They used to do hers in the hospital a few years ago, but now it is done in the office with a special X-ray machine just like mine. I guess hers are more extensive because they tell her no aspirin or ibuprofen for a week before, no shower for 48 hours and a bunch more rules. I'm just told to take it easy and put ice on it. They don't FEEL like "lesser" injections though! LOL I HATE having to drive home afterwards and would get someone to take me if I could, then they could give me an aneshtetic so it wouldn't be so bad. It's a long ride home to make feeling so badly and I am always afraid that I'll pass out from the pain and have an accident. I don't think they should let us drive home afterwards.

Where I live, MANY outpatient surgical procedures are done outside of the hospital.

I'm glad you had him there to help you! Sounds like it was still a rough night though. Hope this one doesn't hurt as long as the last one!

It's starting to ease up already, but we'll have to wait and see how I feel after the baby wakes up and I need to care for him on my own.

myLot reputation of 62/100. AngryKittyMSV (1913)   ranked 5 out of 72 in chronic pain  3 years ago

The "baby" weighs nearly 40 pounds and upon his waking I discovered that his diaper leaked so I had to change the sheets in his crib and do laundry and pick him up many times to change him and feed him and now I'm all f*cked up all over again.

I was supposed to work tonight, I called in and was practcally in tears becuse I feel so miserable. They took me off the schedule for tomorrow too, I'll probably get fire over this.

Then the damned cat got sick on my bed and I had to strip THAT whch requires moving a king sizd mattress and the percocet even with a side of advil ain't doing didley.

Thank you to you and everyone else who replied, and apologies in advance if I don't get back to this discussion again either.

Kitty-

Oh how I wish I lived close so I could take you back and forth, I know what it is like to have a spinal done. Not for pain mind you, but I had to receive an epidural patch many moons ago and I still recall it!

I would also keep your children occupied with my own children. I'm sure the babies would get along splendidly.

I shall light another healing candle for you today on my alter, as you have been there since I first heard of your struggles.

Know you have my friendship, thoughts, and love. I know they may not be physical and tangible but they are yours.

I also agree with alternative therapies. Perhaps something can aide you in your recovery and journey.

Namaste dear friend-Anora

I had an epidural for a disc problem and it was a pretty uneventful thing for me, but it didn't last long. I did eventually find a better solution. What you have sounds pretty nasty so I hope that you do too!

I'm glad to hear that the pain wasn't AS bad---I read in your response elsewhere that your health coverage doesn't recognize/cover acupuncture...you're in the same boat I'm in as I would love to get that for my own pain problems, but can't pay out of pocket. I'm reading this book about acupressure which works on the same principles, but no needles...one can do it to themself by knowing the pressure points...I'll let you know if it works

Oops was reading more of your responses. I have to put up with a lot of pain myself as you know and since I live alone no matter how I'm feeling I have to do everything myself. There are some days I don't even feel like getting out of bed since at least the pain is lessened while I'm in bed. One of the reason for instance my wrist is still painful is that I'm re-aggravating it all the time by doing simple chores, or even typingsad
