yes i agree with you,a simple greeting can makes me happy on my b-day.it does not necessary to gifts.i have also some experience that my friends gave me gifts that i already have the thing is i appreciate her gifts to me buy i already have this.so i gave my shorts to my niece it is same color and brand.yes a cup of coffee is fine for me.

Here is some ammunition to present to your other half for convincing him of getting a new microwave. First, the older a microwave gets, the more power it uses so your electric bill goes up. The new microwaves are far more energy efficient so you can do the same cooking with far less power at a fraction of the cost. I have an older microwave and it takes three minutes to heat water for a cup of tea, my BF's microwave is 6 months old and it takes 45 seconds to heat the same cup of water. Also after many many uses the protective gasket on the door wears, as does the hinge and it allows the micro waves to escape making it a bit dangerous and less efficient in cooking. Also, using your old microwave, there is no warrantee on it so if it quits you either have to buy an new one anyhow or pay a huge bill to get the old one fixed. Finally, when you buy a new microwave you can donate the old one to charity and thus will get a tax write off. I hope this information will convince your other half to let you get a new microwave.

I woke up missing my Mom, who passed away a little over 9 years ago. She gave me the best gifts! I must preface the comment that I am a lady. I started a teddy bear making business 25 years ago. My most favorite gift from her were tools! She bought me a cordless screwdriver, which I used til it fell apart, then she bought me another one. Then she bought me a drill for me to be able to cut out the joints for the teddy bears. It too got used until it literally fell apart. A couple of years before she died she bought me another drill. I treasure it enormously and bought a drill for me to use for cutting out joints so that the one Mom bought me can be kept in working condition.

When Mom died, I was saddened at losing my Mom and best friend, who knew exactally what kind of tools to buy me for gifts. I guess that has influenced my view point on gifts. I would rather get just a card rather than something that someone went out and bought just to have something to give as a gift. It has happened so often and so many of the times the gift ends up going to the thrift shop.

yes lovebear i agree with you,we treasure the gifts given to us specially if its heartily.my dad gave me a wrist watch as a gifts for passing my licensure exam.i was so happy i didnt expected it form him.i just very amazed and idolize my father because his the one helping me not only financially what he is always there for me everytime i need him.i appreciate the love and care that he gave me.i do not think about how much is his to me but the understanding and the loving i most appreciate it.i value his gifts so much i take care it so much like he taking of me too.

The one funny part of what I said is that I do have a friend who will buy me some really "STRANGE" gifts from the thrift shop. It's stuff that I would never use or want to stay in my home. I used to donate it to our local Goodwill donation center, but I found that the items would go back to the Goodwill close to my home where my friend could rebuy it! It took a couple of times for me to get my brain around the fact that the stuff might be out of my house for two weeks and then be re-bought by my friend and given to me again. So, I found another thrift shop donation center where the donations go to Fresno rather than locally. It has really cut down on getting un-necessary and un-useful gifts.

i also do that to my friends who has upcoming birthday.i call them ahead of their special day i also text them and give birthday card.i will agree to the saying" it is better to give than to receive ".

YES i know especially women loves to receive material things over non-material things in particular.yes if its heartily given i its great and appreciate it for remembering your birthday.i will stick to the saying,its better to give than to receive.

yes as we are adults we do not really think whether we will expect a gift from our family,friends and co-worker.it just we love to hear someone greet US and remembering our birthday and i think it simple but it made us happy too.material gifts is also good if the gifts that you receive like but sometimes we do not like it its content.but still its heartily given so i will accept it.

gifts are ok,i think you are looking into how much it value to you.for me i do not look into how much is it or is this new model of cellphone or what brands of this dress that they give me.i appreciate the effort they do for me.i do not usually look what gifts i will get.i am just happy because my friends come in my birthday party for me that is the essence of the celebration because they remember my birthday.i am just happy to receive calls and text messages greeting me a happy birthday.

yes thought that is count.adults really do not think about what gifts they will get or receive they just thank God for giving him another year.aand also his happy when his all friends are presence and celebrating with him.it gives so much happiness to the birthday celebrant.
