Check this out please, wrote an ad for something I'd like to do: |
Save money, be more green, learn to make shampoo and soap for fine delicates from a common backyard plant. Call -----------(My phone #). So would you respond to this ad? Would you come to a class to learn all about it? Would you make shampoo or liquid soap with me if you were here? Are you curious as to what kind of plant it is or have you read so many of my posts that you know what kind or have you researched soap plants and you already know? Thanks and take care.

1. carolbee (6713) | 3 months ago | I have no idea what kind of plant would make soap. If we lived in the same part of the country, I might want to see how this process is done. If we were total strangers, I doubt I would take any interest. Is this a class you are offering?

writersedge (4401) | 3 months ago | Yes, it is a class I'm offering, but someone suggested (that lives here) that people might just want instructions. Maybe, but I would have to be sure they could identify the plant or that would be a problems, so I prefer that they come here. Yes, it's getting so no one wants to go places where they don't know people, feel too dangerous or too dishonest or something. Thanks and take care.

writersedge (4401) | 3 months ago | Sad sign of the times, soon we'll just be locked in our own homes except for going to really large places like stores.

2. peavey (3747) | 3 months ago | I would be interested, but I think it takes a certain type of person to want to. Maybe more would be interested now since "the economy" has become such a problem. Sounds like a good ad, though.

writersedge (4401) | 3 months ago | If the plant grows wild in your back yard, then you would only have to pull it up and process it by boiling it in water and cooling it. If it doesn't, then you have to buy the plant or the seeds. No matter how you do it, it should be cheaper. But there are some incredible buys out there for soap, but much of that soap has chemicals and unhealthy ingredients. Too bad we don't live near each other, I would love to teach both you can your sister. Meeting you both would be very, very cool! Thanks and take care.

leenie50 (1791) | 3 months ago | Writer, Thanks so much for the BR. I really do wish we lived closer. That's the sad part of Mylot. Everyone is scattered all over the world. I wish I were able to just get up and start visiting some of my friends. Good luck with your project. If you decide to do it and someone wants just directions, you should of course profit from it. taking a class would be so much more fun. Hugsss leenie

writersedge (4401) | 3 months ago | Thank you very much. It is a problem that people with similar interests live so far away from me. Oh well, maybe someday. The Herb person I work for says that people are looking up uses of herbs like crazy now and she seldom has to explain anything, they now tell her about herbs she has. So things are changing. Take care

4. celticeagle (4622) | 3 months ago | No, needs more mystery. One sentence ad. Interesting. I don't know what plant it is you speak of but could probably find it online. I guess I haven't read enough of your posts. Shampoo an liquid soap. Tell me why I need to do this and i just might. Thanks.

writersedge (4401) | 3 months ago | First, look up the ingredients in your soap and shampoo. Many have carcinogens in them. If yours don't, you're lucky. Most have some kinds of chemicals in them. A free plant that growns in most people's back yards as a weed is usually cheaper, even with processing, than spending money to go to a store and buy shampoo or soap. This plant is said to be used by museums to wash fine tapestry and other delicates. Many people with allergies and/or acne find relief using either this liquid soap or it combined with glycerin. In short, cheaper and more environmentally friendly. We have to watch what goes in our septic tanks here, chemicals can shut down the action of the natural stuff in the tanks and cause backing up. It's not for everyone, no one soap is. But it's interesting to give a try since this plant was brought to this country to wash clothes and now it has escaped and is a weed in many people's back yards. There are at least 30 plants in my yard and we never planted it. Be careful online, there are nuts out there that have pictures of tall phlox saying it is this plant and it isn't.

writersedge (4401) | 3 months ago | The ad is in a free flyer of all ads. So short and sweet usually does the trick better than long. If someone calls me and asks more about it, then I can tell them. If they don't have it in their back yards, then I can sell them a plant or seeds and they will have it in their back yards.

celticeagle (4622) | 3 months ago | What you just said is what you should have in your ad. Very informative and to the point.
| |
writersedge (4401) | 3 months ago | Yeah and $100 to put the ad in for three weeks, they charge by the word. Plus the ability to find out without going to my class.
| |
celticeagle (4622) | 3 months ago | Wow! I think I would be looking else where. That is expensive.
| |
writersedge (4401) | 3 months ago | The little bit I wrote above was $22.00, so that much more would be around $100 easily. I may advertise somewhere else. We'll see if I get any takers.
| |
writersedge (4401) | 3 months ago | I just did a word count, more like $175 or even $200 bucks. So I keep it short and sweet, then people contact me if curious.

writersedge (4401) | 3 months ago | Thank you very much. So did you figure out what plant it is or do the research yet?
| |
celticeagle (4622) | 3 months ago | Flox? Or some other flower?
| |
writersedge (4401) | 3 months ago | It looks like tall Phlox and is commonly mistaken for it. You're on the right track. You're very, very warm.
| |
celticeagle (4622) | 3 months ago | Well, I really have no idea.
| |
writersedge (4401) | 3 months ago | Have you searched Phlox lookalikes? Soap plants of the USA? You've giving up much too easily. Where there is a will, you know there is a way Celtic Eagle type person.

writersedge (4401) | 3 months ago | Should be You've given up too easily or you're giving up too easily, sorry, I did a split decision.

5. ladym33 (5261) | 1 month ago | I think that would be a fun class to take and very interesting, I would take that class you might want to contact your local park district and see if you can teach it through them and at one of their locations it will help you get more people to attend and peaple would be more comfortable in a publically owned setting.
