The noodles or the sauce? email this discussion to a friend?

myLot reputation of 99/100. ElicBxn (15572)   ranked 2 out of 377 in italian4 months ago

Well, we are being bad tonight and had some spaghetti.

The roomie and I were talking about how we like our pasta.

"Noodles as a mechanism to transport sauce" is the the roomie's take on spaghetti. Meaning more sauce to noodles ratio...

I'm of the opinion "Sauce to flavor the noodles" of course meaning just enough sauce to coat the noodles.

So, what is your take? More noodles than sauce or more sauce than noodles? White sauce or red?

hiElicBxn oh I love my spaghetti with oodles of red sauce and meatballs, italian of course, and I a m a happy camper. And there
is not oneounce of Italian blood in me, its english scottish, and Irish american. I am leery of white sauces as they usually contain
too much fat for me.but I do love my red sauce and it has to barilla
sauceh with lots of garlic and b asil and hamburger. yummy

myLot reputation of 99/100. ElicBxn (15572)   ranked 2 out of 377 in italian  4 months ago

so your a sauce gal, like the roomie

and no Italian in either of us either

We were eating red sauce too, I love white sauce too, but neither are really on our diet, so we were being better by eating red...

Heck, anything with those noodles make me happy....

NOODLES!!! I knew we had a lot in common!!!

I like both, but I'm fussier about the reds, I find some too sweet others too spicy - I can always be happy with a white....

I like red or white sauce & lots' of it. The sauce is what makes the pasta good.

myLot reputation of 99/100. ElicBxn (15572)   ranked 2 out of 377 in italian  4 months ago

gimme the noodles! what do you use for the sauce after the noodles are gone?

myLot reputation of 93/100. ANTIQUELADY (11563)   ranked 15 out of 377 in italian  4 months ago

More noodles, garlic bread, yum.

I use my homemade sauce with ground beef and a little more than to coat the noodles cause I let it sit overnight so the noodles soak up some of the sauce, giving it even yummier flavor.

myLot reputation of 99/100. ElicBxn (15572)   ranked 2 out of 377 in italian  4 months ago

well, I find you can't twirl the noodles if you leave them sitting too long, I'm definitely a noodle twirler...

myLot reputation of 99/100. blackbriar (6355)   ranked 40 out of 377 in italian  4 months ago

confused Why not? They twirl just fine for me after heating up the spagetti in a bowl.

I'll take the spaghetti sauce, add meat, spinach, zuchini and eat it totally without pasta! LOL...how Alfredo...yea...baby...needs some kind of pasta, all the way. Preferrably cheese filled! drooldrooldrool

myLot reputation of 99/100. ElicBxn (15572)   ranked 2 out of 377 in italian  4 months ago

lol - like we like the sauce with the spaghetti squash, but the roomie wanted NOODLES tonight

Gotta say - we ate a FRACTION of what we used to eat - I probably had about a cup and so did she, (we were only to have a third of a cup) but she used to put away WAY more than that and so did I (but not as much as she did)

just that I have meat trouble, since I'm allergic to so many that we look for things I can eat without meat...

Hey Elic! I'm lmao right now! I thought I was the only one
who ate sauce with my noodles or spaghetti!lol I love sauce!
I eat my spaghetti in a bowl on purpose because I use so much
sauce! And my boyfriend is the complete opposite! He puts a
tiny little bit on his and you can't even see it and he makes
fun of me and I make fun of him! But, it works out perfect
because then there is all the sauce for me!lol I love
red sauce the most! Once in awhile I will eat some nice alfredo!

myLot reputation of 99/100. ElicBxn (15572)   ranked 2 out of 377 in italian  4 months ago

so, your like we are - well, you can see the sauce on mine, but most stays in the bottom of the bowl

myLot reputation of 98/100. Opal26 (10096)   ranked 20 out of 377 in italian  4 months ago

You guys need to sop it up with some nice Italian bread!
That is the best! I could just eat some Italian bread or
buttered rolls with sauce for dinner and be really happy!
And I'm not even Italian!

myLot reputation of 99/100. ElicBxn (15572)   ranked 2 out of 377 in italian  4 months ago

CARBSSSSS - that's even WORSE for the diet!!!

I've lost 30 lbs, by NOT eating too many carbs for the last 4 months!

Hi opal26. I do love the sauce as well. The more sauce the better. I both love either white or red sauce.

I have to side with the roomie. The more sauce, the better. drool

Yep, I'm a sauce lover, especially tomato sauce. I always order extra sauce whenever I order a pizza. When I make spaghetti, the noodles are practically floating in the sauce.

Okay, maybe it's not that bad but I do love my sauce! I sometimes have spaghetti sauce on bread. Just that, nothing more.

You may think I'm weird but I'm not as weird as a friend of mine. She can open a jar of spaghetti sauce and just eat that... with nothing else! Now, THAT'S bad! lol

myLot reputation of 99/100. ElicBxn (15572)   ranked 2 out of 377 in italian  4 months ago

that IS bad! I've actually known people to eat the sauce on bread - but only AFTER the noodles are gone...

on the other hand, I'll eat cocktail sauce on crackers because I like the cocktail sauce so much...

myLot reputation of 98/100. Opal26 (10096)   ranked 20 out of 377 in italian  4 months ago

Hey mw and Elic! I didn't even see your response and I just
said the same thing! I love to sop up the sauce with bread!
I don't even need the pasta! And I make my own sauce and I'm
not Italian! I was engaged to an Italian and I always made
my own sauce from scratch! My Mom used to make alot of Italian
dishes like Lasagna and Braciolle! I make them both too! And
I am Hungarian on my mother's side and Russian on my father's
side! I can really cook some incredible food!

myLot reputation of 98/100. mentalward (4362)   ranked 112 out of 377 in italian  4 months ago

Hi Opal. I make a mean lasagna and can get a bit creative with my spaghetti but that's about it for me and cooking Italian. I just made my own spaghetti sauce for the first time last week and I think I'll be doing this from now on. I'll just have to plant more tomato plants next year so I'll have enough to can to use through the winter and spring.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only person who likes bread and spaghetti sauce! lol

myLot reputation of 99/100. jules67 (1935)   ranked 45 out of 377 in italian  4 months ago

Hi mentalward. There is nothing weird about it. I do love the pasta sauce. The more the better. It is nothing at all without the sauce. I want the sauce to be a little sweeter.

When I have pasta, I prefer less sauce, just barely enough to coat. I'm not a fan of white sauce, unless I make it myself. Butter (or butter flavored oils) taste terrible to me, so if I make a white sauce it's with olive oil.
My favorite is an alfredo with just a little tomato sauce mixed in...sort of a blush or cream tomato sauce.

myLot reputation of 99/100. jules67 (1935)   ranked 45 out of 377 in italian  4 months ago

Hi catdla. You have a different preference. You like less sauce while some like more sauce. Me, I really like lots of sauce in it. Have a great day.

myLot reputation of 99/100. ElicBxn (15572)   ranked 2 out of 377 in italian  4 months ago

me too, I do like white sauces, and I love butter, probably why I'm so fat... don't really like cream of tomato tho...

It's always depending on your taste.but noodles and spaghetti or any kind of pasta is not yummy without any sauce.try mixing or putting together the red and white sauce then bake it for about 30 mins in an oven and surely you will like them both:)

myLot reputation of 99/100. jules67 (1935)   ranked 45 out of 377 in italian  4 months ago

HI kylevinz. I do agree with you. Noodles is not tasty without any sauce. It is like painting on a pale wall. It adds. beauty and of course, taste. Yummy. rasp

myLot reputation of 99/100. ElicBxn (15572)   ranked 2 out of 377 in italian  4 months ago

actually, I like to twirl my noodles, so I like the spaghetti noodles and baking it would ruin them ...

besides, baking it makes lasagna..

Hi ElicBxn. I love spaghetti. I can have it every day. Of course, pasta is not good without the sauce. I do not have any preference. A white or a red sauce will do. But I want more sauce than just coating the noodles. It tastes tastier if it has more of it. Thanks. Happy mylotting.

myLot reputation of 99/100. ElicBxn (15572)   ranked 2 out of 377 in italian  4 months ago

see, I want it just coating, otherwise its too over powering - but we aren't talking catsup sauce either, we're talking all those seasonings...
