Why buy cat toys |
|
when there are so many free ones lying around the house?
Things that cats love to play with:
those plastic rings from the top of milk bottles cardboard boxes plastic bottle tops strings and ribbons (but watch out for cats that like to eat them) paper bags shoelaces
This morning I was stretching and I saw my daughter take the scissors to the cheerios box that she had just finished. Turns out she was cutting the tops off and making a cat toy. It was a double wide box (two sacks of cheerios inside) and when she was done, they had a great time going in and out of the box.
What 'toys' do your cats find around the house? And what goofy things do they do with them?

1. katsmeow1213 (4943) | 4 months ago | My cats don't do much playing anymore. They're 8 and 6 years old, so not really ancient but I guess they think they're too old to be kittens anymore. They used to play with the plastic off the milk gallon. My older cats does love to sleep in boxes. Plus some of the other things you mentioned like strings and such. However I used to buy them those fuzzy mice, they loved those. I stopped buying them though when the cats ripped the fur off the mouse within moments of opening the package!!

dawnald (10522) | 4 months ago | My two 7 year old cats don't play so much any more either, though they do still chase each other around a bit. They have to be induced to play. But I also have a three year old cat and one who is 14 months old and they can get pretty rowdy sometimes!

2. caroll30 (1129) | 4 months ago | Omg isnt that the truth? My cat wont play with anything I buy from the store, she is an outside cat and prefers things that move for real lol. Two nights ago she caught a REAL MOUSE in our house. As for things she finds to play with in the house its almost anything. My hubby is a welder and she plays with his disposable ear plugs i once thought it was a live grasshopper lol. She also plains with loose change the milk thing anything she can find its so funny when she does these things. Cats are just awesome pets arent they?

dawnald (10522) | 4 months ago | They are awesome. Quirky too, though. I can't leave foam rubber or curling ribbon around the house for fear that it will get eaten and then barfed right back up...

3. christylynn (1895) | 4 months ago | my cat loves string and he also likes the milk caps when our milk is gone I will let him have the cap he will of course like it to death to get the milk on it LOL. then after that he bats it around and chases after it it's hiralous to watch him run around after that thing, my daugther one day got the notion to take one of his milk caps and a string and she somehow tied that around the milk cap and well the rest was history he still plays with it.

KMPierce (117) | 4 months ago | That's funny- I thought my cat was the only cat that likes to play with milk caps. She also plays with puzzle pieces. Anytime we are working on a puzzle she sneaks up to the table and steals puzzle pieces. We end up finding them in a corner or under the couch.

4. savypat (7966) | 4 months ago | I don't buy cat toys, I knot an old sock or make a ball out of left over yard on a string, a brown paper bag will entertain for hours.

5. Irishfrndly65 (7499) | 4 months ago | My mom's cat loved a papersack with a hole in one corner where you could dangle a string or, if you were VERY brave, your finger! LOL!

|
dawnald (10522) | 4 months ago | VERY brave! Our cats love Dearra's butterfly pavilion (what's left of it), but when the paw pokes out through the hole, beware!

6. rusty2rusty (4208) | 4 months ago | I don't have a cat..but when I did I bought one of those cat toys that look like a fishing pole. It was so much fun to play with the cat with. The kids knew it was the cats toy. plu sthe cat knew he could go to town and have a blast with that toy without anyone topping him.

| 52onepiece (14) | 4 months ago | I have a cat toy just like yours. It looks like a fishing rod with a plush fish in the end.My cats love it very much. As long as I come up with the rod, they rush to catch the fish. Sometimes they fight for who can catch the fish first. What fun!

dawnald (10522) | 4 months ago | Mine too but with a feather at the end rather than a fish!

7. jugsjugs (3272) | 4 months ago | I always buy cat toys for my cat at Christmas other than that they have woolen pom poms that the children have made or even a card board box with a ping pong ball in it that they hit around the box.I find the most basic things that are free to make as they have more fun for hours.

You can say that again, my cats don't play with cats toys but they play with all sorts of thing, I have cork from a wine bottle and Tom and I have a great game with with, I would throw it at him and he catches it with both paws, he is a good goalie, he'll be a good gola keeper at a football match, he also loves thers white tops from tubs and insert from the toilet tissue papaer.

10. pyewacket (11694) | 4 months ago | I can't agree with you more. You should see all the cat toys I bought just lying on the floor untouched, the kitty condo I bought last year...do my darlings play with them.......nope...instead, they like snoozing in a cardboard box I fixed up, like chasing crumbled up paper, bat around my pens or that cardboard empty roll of paper towels..so nope have resolved NOT to buy toys for my "poor" deprived darlings.
