That's not necessarily true that only certain breeds of dogs are raised in the same manner as we here in our country raise chickens or cows. The HSUS (Humane Society of the United States) a crackdown was made of the dog meat trade in the Philippines..HSUS agents seized a truck filled with caged dogs being shipped to slaughter...what they discovered was that the majority of the caged dogs had dog collars on them.....meaning they were family pets stolen which is widespread there--I did a discussion long, long time ago about this very thing and had included a video of the seizing of the truck filled with family pet dogs

Well, I didn't say everybody have conscience.

I know cases in my country taht near Easter time (while here is the habbit to eat lamb meat durring the Easter) some unscrupulous people were selling dogs presented as lambs .. this was some years a go and repeatdly .. until recently police interfere and stoped this ..

So, what I was to point out is that the original habbit is to eventually eat certain breed which is no way a pet or family breed .. Use the link I provided and see the looong list of countries and related habbit ..

I don't know that there are special breed of dogs for meat. But even if that is the case, dogs are not meant for human consumption. There are other edible meat for food and not dogs where they are close to humanbeings. I hope there are laws that protect dogs from ending up in the pot to satisfy human greed.

sorry to say that this is happening in my place and it is indeed a tradition and sometimes we cannot easily break traditions. The thing that makes me disagree is when our local government officials allow dog meat restaurants to operate. Can u imagine that? RESTAURANTS! It is for business and no longer just for culture.

I had seen how dogs were butchered in the neighborhood and it makes my stomach turn and i really feel pity for those poor animals.

Well, I have this discussion once but what made me post this again is when I see the video of this western guy chewing the dogs meat and leaving all the meat or bones on the table just to show the world that he is really eating dogs meat. I think his comments were all fabricated just to please his host.

It was rumoured for some time here in my local area that the Chinese take-away was using dog meat. It must've made quite an impact on the sales, because they soon went under new management.

I believe most westerners frown at the idea of dogs meat as many are animal lovers. Unlike in the third world countries where animals can be their pets and can also end up as food for them. I have a terrier with 5 puppies and they stay indoors with me. I am a dog lover and would never approve of people eating dogs meat.

We can't differentiate which meat come from which animal if they are neatly displayed in the freezer. I agree with you that dogs meat is like any other meat that people eat. But the thought of our pet dog at home would make us condemn those who eat dogs meat. No harm in checking out on the video and see how this western guy regurgitate the dogs stew just to please his host and probably the cameraman.

So do you know if it tastes like any other of those meats?

I share your thoughts and feelings. The thought of dogs meat is vomit inducing. It just doesn't appease my appetite.
