How old should a girl before she starts wearing make-up?

No way should she be allowed to wear makeup four is way too young. Thats very nice of you to want to help her but you should help her by telling her shes pretty and you should get the rest of your family to tell her that she is too.

I was not allowed to wear makeup until I was 14. Even that was minimal. I could wear, eyeshadow, blush and lip gloss. My mother said not to look like a clown. Some girls wear too much makeup and it does nothing for their appearance. Any girl younger than a teenager wearing makeup is asking for trouble. it's just too young to be a grownup!

I don't think it's a good idea. Because the chemicals for a make up can ruin a young skin. Just put a little powder, and fix her hair. That can do better. Also, give her self esteem in a good way like telling her how beautiful she are and it's not the physical being can justify the real meaning of beauty. We are all unique in every way. We may not have all the things in the world but as long as we feel loved by our loved ones (like family) that's the greatest gift she can ever have. She is still young and a lot of things will develop in her physical appearance. Tell her not to mind other kids because they haven't seen their faces in the mirror and it's bad to call someone ugly because we are all made to beautiful in every way.

I think just your sister have been played by her friends, and as she
was just 4, then no need for the make up now. Most of the time the
girl need to reach the teenage then they always looks for the some sorts
of make up to beautifying their beauty, but in case of small kids, no need
for any more make up and also the kids are looking more pretty without
any make up. So better to talk to her and make her to understand about
her prettiness and I am sure that she would understood then will satisfied

She definitively is too young. By suggesting something like this you could destroy her self confidence completely. She'd feel that she is so ugly, that she needs make up before anyone else. Instead you should rather make her understand that looks are not everything, that the character counts and that the other kids were just stupid and jealous. Make her believe in herself for her inner beauty and strength and talents, not despise herself for her looks!

She is WAY too young. While she may not be beauty queen material, as family, you should be encouraging self esteem in her. At age four, you would be basically agreeing with her classmates about "not being pretty" by trying to "fix it". Don't side with the 4 year children - side with your sister and teach her self esteem and values.

Where I am from, girls don't really start to wear makeup until they are 13 or 14 years old. Girls younger than that are looked down on as "trashy"...and since it is typically teenage and adult men that like girls to wear makeup because of the stupid images of what beauty is in their eyes - - - there is no way in h3ll I'd let my 4 year old walk around with makeup on.....

that is scary. how many 4-year-olds wear makeup? i think the youngest age to start wearing makeup is in junior high, 12 or 13 years old. i started at 15 because that was when i felt like wearing makeup. most girls start in high school. but nowadays they are starting in junior high. i think elementary school is too young for makeup too.

No, do not start her too early. Vanity can be a curse if started too young. It is very expensive to keep up facial appearances. Let her take the taunts. After all she is beautiful, isn't she?

Whoever it was that told her she was ugly is a rotten kid. I hate kids that say mean things like that. My daughter knows better then to ever say something like that to someone that would hurt there feelings. I hope this little girl will not have to go through life with a complex because of other kids calling her ugly. That would be so sad. 4 years old is way to little to worry about her looks and WAY to young for her to wear makeup. That wont help her self esteem. I teach my daughter that she doesnt need makeup to be beautiful. I myself wear makeup all the time so she probably wonders about that but I just tell her I wear makeup not to be beautiful but just because I like to get fancied up. I started wearing lipstick when I was 11. By 12 I wore full makeup to school. At 13 I was tired of getting that made up all the time so for a year I didnt wear makeup and I looked terrible. My mother would insist that because I was so plain I should wear makeup. I will never do that to my kids if they want to go makeup free I will be fine with it. Its there bodies! At 14 until now at 26 I wear makeup everyday. I wouldnt be caught dead without it!
