Quit or go on Burnout?  email this discussion to a friend?

Wikipedia describes burnout as "a psychological term for the experience of long-term exhaustion and diminished interest."

I'm hearing of a lot of people going on sick leave due to burnout.

I think I was starting to experience burnout at my previous job, but I didn't go see a doctor, I just quit my job. And everything was fine.

In your opinion, do you think burnout can be cured by changing jobs, or at least by changing positions within the same company?

I'm sorry to hear that you're burnt out!
Are you planning on cutting back on some of the work you do so that you can rest a bit?

hi go girl,
There are lots of things one person start in life and soon either gets bored or feels he is wasting his time doing this.. Yes burnout is a real thing which happens but if you are in a job then you can not allow yourself to be burnout or quit unless you got a better job and position in job... or unless u r married to real nice rich guy.. i think take a holiday , go with ur husband, bf for a couple of weeks in Himalayas, rejuvinate your self and enjoy ur work again.

I think we can get burned out because we do the same thing or deal with the same things day after day after day in our jobs. Good jobs will challenge and interest us, but unfortunately not all jobs are like that. Sometimes burnout can be helped by changing positions within a company, but it depends on how limited the company is.

I don't think going to a doctor will help... unless you want to take some kind of zombie medicine that makes you content to do the same thing over and over. The human mind isn't wired that way, thank heavens!

In my opinion, I won't change my job because of burnout. I'm now a youngster with enthusiasm and ambission which drive me high-powered. What's more, I also believe what I get paid now deserve my hard working. you know, it's a keener competition world, to find a decent job isn't an easy thing, I just have to work on my all cylinders so that I could be promoted soon, at that time, you not only do a comfortable job but also get a decent salary. Youth is my best asset now, I should make the most of it, right?

I think quitting your job is not the solution just because you're burned out. Another probable reason why you are on the verge of quitting is that maybe you're doing things monotonously. Repeating the same thing everyday. Try do other things like involve yourself to extra corricular activities. Enroll yourself to the gym or something. There are plenty things to do than to whine how you're having a hard time at your work. Plus, work is there to sustain you lifestyle, so go shopping or enjoy the fruit of your labor.

I am experiencing burned out too, but every payday comes I splurge myself to parlor and mall, just to detoxify everything.. lols.

Well, I think it depends on the situation, whether or not you can change it, adapt to it, otherwise you just have to leave it. These are the three options I always ask myself.

I quit my previous job as I didn't think I can take it anymore, it's not the life I want to have, and I was going to have depression soon, I suppose. I think it's no point harming my health for the job, and also spending less time with my family. Hence I decided to quit. Of course, quitting the job may not be the ultimate solution, but I really didn't want to sacrifice my personal time for the work. Life is not just about work.

Of course, before you quit, you can also talk to your manager, see if there are other alternatives.

At this point in time, I think it is really very hard to quit your current job. It is really hard to quit a job. But if you could afford to find a job that would make you happier then quitting is the best solution to your burnout. A transfer to a different position within the company might also solve it but if the cause of the burnout is still there I think there would come a time that you would feel the burnout sooner or later.

I really feel that burn out is a very big burden in the part of the employee. I think that the work is not going to be as efficient and as effective as before. Might as well let the employee rest for a while or let the employer get his employees to vacation. I don't think that quitting the job would help because now a days it is very hard to find a job. Keep on mylotting. Nice discussion. thumbup

I cannot just quit my job because I felt burn out. too many at risks, so instead of run away from the problems, I look for other methods and things that could relieve my burnout feelings. Sometimes, I think we need to face the problems and finds methods to settle it. It is not easy, but its not impossible too.
