Slumdog millionaire I enjoyed the film did you enjoy it too? |
I just recently saw Slumdog millionaire three days ago on cable, and I really enjoyed the film. in fact I had to watch it agin later that same day, I thought that the film was really fascinating, and it had a really sweet love story in the mitst through all of the tragedy, and I liked that the film had a happy ending, because there seems to be a shortage of good films with happy endings, I felt up lifted at the end to spite the fact that the character Jamal went through so much loss and tragedy I was very happy with the films ending.
Did you enjoy this film too, and what was your favorite moment in the film?

1. dfgh123456789 (172) | 1 month ago | Yeah, a good movie by Danny Boyle. i hated the part where salim gets bigger and chases jamal out. I likes the parts when jamal was young, so much tragedy yet so much fun.if you like this movie, i reccommend you watching 'Sunshine' by Danny Boyle. The same director for Slumdog Millionaire

2. sophisticated_boy (527) | 1 month ago | Contrary to you, I think it's the most overrated movie last year, did not deserve a Best Picture at all. This movie is a usual story about poverty mixed with love and told in unique way (by playing Who Wants To Be A Millionaire). It's a good movie, but it did not give me a new watching experience like Benjamin Button (who many people thinks overrated but IMO it's splendid in many parts), Wall-E and Dark Knight.

gunagohan (878) | 1 month ago | overrated......my country men have done this movie and this is our first attempt and on our first attempt my state's musician has won two oscars and he dedicated it to our people and said "every honors to god" and i think somebody should replace the panel of oscar for enlisting the movies oscar awards in Los Angeles, so people should not think that it was overrated... whatever people say, we dont mind, we have won the oscar...
| |
sophisticated_boy (527) | 1 month ago | Ok, first of all, it's not India first attempt in Oscar. Every year, every country are eligible to put their films to compete in the Oscars. As I can remember there is one movie that even nominated in Best Foreign Pic few years ago, I think it 's Devdas? Second, it's not an Indian movie. Mind you, it was made by British director, Danny Boyle who shoots with many Indians. I didn't make opinion about the Indians, I just think as a whole movie, it's not as good as many other great movies came last year. For the score, yes I think it's a great score and song that deserved an Oscar

sailor10 (623) | 1 month ago | India is sending films to Oscar whereas the Indian film industry is gigantic inb comparison to any in the world. The industry is surviving,no thriving inspite of all the odds stacked against it.Admittedly it was a collaboration but like Attenborough Boyle got lucky because he worked with the highly talented Indians,no doubt about that. This is just the start and since more collaborations are in the pipeline you may see the real globalization when popular hollywood movies start taking the Indian flavor and content. As for the movie itself it was a racy narrative and the music was great, but then we Have seen much better work from AR Rahman. What the world is waking up to now was known to us almost 2 decades back.Very soon Indian cinema will start winning Oscars regularly as the passion here cannot be matched by anyone in the world. These are exciting times and we are proud to be Indians.

sophisticated_boy (527) | 1 month ago | yeah, I wonder why it takes so long for Bolywood industry to conquer US market. Indian movie industry has been there since decades ago. Even my mom and dad used to watch Indian movies back in 50s and 60s where Hollywood movies are very rare to be found in my country. Well, I'll definitely support the movie if it is good. More power to Asian countries:)

4. AniruS (147) | 1 month ago | apples, I like the concept of the movie and the message that it is trying to give out. "You learn most of the things from your life experiences", but I feel that the move getting oscars and all is hyped. Moreover I do not like the way most of Indians have taken the movie as. We should understand that this is not an Indian movie, but a British movie based on Indian theme. I have also written an article about this on my blog if you may want to read it. http://www.the-risingsun.com/?p=26 Let me know what you thing about the article.

gunagohan (878) | 1 month ago | actually speaking, this is purely an indian movie....director danny belong to irish, but that doesn't sound in this movie....
movie was completely filled by indian actors and the background music and music direction and production was by an INDIAN....
And that INDIAN music Director has won two Oscars In ur State Los Angeles...
Millionaire Programme is an indian Show....so everything belong to india..
and we deserve the oscar and we have won the oscar...
and there is no hype created for this movie, this movie clearly deserves...
| |
EnglishTeaDuck (725) | 1 month ago | It is a collaboration. You cannot ignore the fact that the director is British based and the novel was taken up to become a screenplay by a British production company. That doesn't take away from the fact that a great Indian crew, actors, musicians etc helped to create it - you are right to be proud of that.
I don't know whether it deserved the oscar or not, because it is very subjective what people think of a movie.
| |
gunagohan (878) | 1 month ago | director alone cannot make a movie, almost all of his associates were indians... the world have declared that this was an indian movie and an indian has won two oscars...
| |
EnglishTeaDuck (725) | 1 month ago | Yes, I just agreed with you, why are you being so hostile?
| |
gunagohan (878) | 1 month ago | hostile?? me?? im not characterized by enmity or ill will...people say that over hype were created for this movie, but i dont think so, because people think that hollywood is only for united states and no other country should participate or win any awards...to overcome this situation in all fields, we younger generation are working forward to improve our quality in education, sports and entertainment, as in sports we are the top spot cricket playing nation...
| |
EnglishTeaDuck (725) | 1 month ago | May I point out that I am not American?! All I was saying is that it was a collaboration and the director IS important since the film is ultimately the directors vision. I am all for recognition coming to the Indian film industry and everything not being centered on America. I am English, and I trained as an actor in England.
| |
sophisticated_boy (527) | 1 month ago | Oh TeaDuck, just leave this guy alone. He also making comments to my post about Indians like I'm somewhat insult him about Indians where I don't even mention a thing about Indian in my posts.
| |
gunagohan (878) | 1 month ago | i never told that u were insulting my people, i just wanna tell my point that the film was an indian film, it has been brought in india and the director was a irish, i may also accept it was a collaboration, but most of the features belong to india, like the film's music, locations, actors and e.t.c., but u were telling that over hype were created for this movie, but i dont know if there was an hype and what made the oscar panel to decide this as the best movie rather than awarding the curious case of benjamin button or the reader or the milk...
they have decided and they have awarded and we have won....this is the result and you have to accept it...if u are gonna tell hype hype, then try to take back the oscars which u cant do...
i love india......

gunagohan (878) | 1 month ago | yeah, i accept your point..They Both Have Won....it was a complete team effort... i too like danny's movies...i have seen all of his previous movies...

5. zed_k4 (4345) | 1 month ago | I would say the story is interesting in its own right. There are elements of a love story, about poverty, about cruelty, humanity and many more. I think it depends on different people's flavor and taste. But one aspect which touches me so much is the element of poverty. It is so sad seeing how families struggle for a living, for education and for survival too.
| |
| |
agv0419 (2089) | 1 month ago | I watched it twice I like the love story. The poverty in India is almost the same here in the Philippines. India is a crowded country like what I observed in the film. Yes I like the love story of Latika and Jamal. I don't it is really overrated but I Slumdog Millionaire is have a simple story but you can feel the struggle that they have been too to be able to survive.
| |
dfgh123456789 (172) | 1 month ago | India is not a poor country as it is thought. When you see the Forbes 2008 top 10 people in the world list,4 of them are Indians. Anil Ambani,Mukesh Ambani,KP Singh and Laskhmi Mittal. And China, india's competitor for asian leadership of ecenomy,There is no chinese on the top 50? or even 100
| |
vijiboopathy (410) | 1 month ago | Yes you are true. The film shows the poverty in a part of country. It is not in the whole country. In the film too they showed the difference of the economic status in the country.
| |
tingtong (1023) | 1 month ago | India is not a poor country. There is no man dying in this country of hunger. People with less resources are there, as anywhere else in the country. The film showed a slum, where some economically backward people live. That is not India. That is a good film which deserved the Oscar.
| |
tingtong (1023) | 1 month ago | I meant, That's not India. But only a part of India. Noone can judge a country as poor, watching some scenes in a movie.
| |
gunagohan (878) | 1 month ago | hey people, we are not poor.....but actually our entire country is not poor, some part may be economically struggling, but most of our people are having enough money to survive and we do not ask anybody to aid us economically, we are pretty strong and we stand and work very hard to make our livelihood easy and i dont want anybody to comment my country as poor...im very much proud to be an indian.....
| |
sailor10 (623) | 1 month ago | inspite of challenging conditions India is a free country where you can experience freedom and security. The proactive efforts are overcoming all disruptive forces and you can see india succeeding in sports, trade, arts and cinema.
| |
zed_k4 (4345) | 1 month ago | The film dealt with issues of poverty and morality. How the rich could be and how the poor could be. I think this concept can be seen everywhere, even in my country... there are poor people here too.. even in a modern, cosmopolitan area. Not all are poor and not all are rich, of course..NoT all. It's not even an issue about race or country. It's simply about life......the rich and the poor. Period...
| |
gunagohan (878) | 1 month ago | hey there sailor, u can argue anything for our nation, but forget about security and freedom....we do not have freedom to wear our dress of our choice to schools and college...i have been restricted by uniforms in schools and dress code in my college.. we do have more restrictions in the city rather than foreign countries..they have more freedom than us...you see if u walk in the roads after 10.30 in nite, you would be questioned by the local police...but i have seen myself in a foreign country that a pair kissing in the nearby road at 11.00 pm in nite,i was standing in my apartments and witnessing this ...are we allowed here to do like this, oops!!!!in my state colleges are having strict rules that boys should not talk with girls, if they happened to see they would fine them heavily...leading to suspension even in worst cases... i have seen school students using mobiles in foreign nations, but in our country even college students are not allowed...
man we do not have freedom....
| |
dfgh123456789 (172) | 1 month ago | GunaGuhan, he talking about freedom of a citizen, not freedom of a student, For example, A citizen has the right to complain about bad authorities or a citizen has the right to keep a pet. These are some freedoms, some countries put you in jail for littering and keeping a pet
| |
dfgh123456789 (172) | 1 month ago | And about those cultural barriers that our country faces, like boys should not talk to girls, it is because of some stupid tradition and religion in our country. We can overcome these problems when our country developes even more
| |
sailor10 (623) | 1 month ago | hi guna i understand your issues but a true hot blooded Indian will not merely stop at a kiss he will go much further and after that where is the freedom, you get my point,so count your blessings while you can. They are just imposing fines or restricting you but what about places where you can be flogged or beheaded, just kidding.Happy lotting!

gunagohan (878) | 1 month ago | check my name, its GunaGohan... and a student is also a citizen of our country... anyway the sailor's vision is very much interesting, not stopping with a kiss and going forward....but people, i belong to south india and we people follow more cultural behaviors ....and i am very young im 19....i cannot do such things like kissing and all... oops!!!!!!
| |
dfgh123456789 (172) | 1 month ago | i am south indian too and i know that GUHAN and GUGAN spell the same in tamil using the letter "ka". We need to break these cultural barriers to bring our country to the front. To break culture, we need to break RELIGION...

gunagohan (878) | 1 month ago | oh no!!!!!its not my name.........check it it is 'GOHAN' its Son Gohan of Dragon ball z ... since i am a fan of Son Gohan i add this to my name Guna and its Guna\Gohan.. my friends call me Gohan and some Guna..

6. triplejazzm51 (238) | 1 month ago | Hi apples99! I saw the movie too and its a very good film. The story is so simple but the film makers were able to present it beautifully that the viewers really understood and enjoyed. Unfortunately, the two child stars in that film did not benefit from the movie's fame. Up to now according to a popular and very reliable asian magazine, these two still lives in a slum area. After the blockbuster Oscar-winning movie, they were promised a house and scholarship but until now they still have no roof over their head.

The setting is very realisitic as well as the storyline. I enjoyed those antics by those childrens. I am just wondering why the girl won the award instead of Jamal?
