Caper Movies

I suppose that you are talking about the Hollywood remake of this classic British film? call me biased, but I prefer the origional British film to the remake. It's certainly one of my favorites.

For the most part as long as the characters are interesting and a little humor does not hurt either, some of them can get a big monotonous but if they are done well they can be very fun and entertaining to watch. It is not my favorite kind of movie to watch but I do enjoy them. Especially once everything is set in motion and the different activities are being done.

Hi Sarahruthbeth22, I loved The Italian Job! (I never saw the original) I think you are correct in that its the thinking and planning involved in the caper that makes it so enticing. Trying to think of all the variables and watching the characters execute their plans and then when something goes wrong, how they improvise. They try to figure in every factor that could happen. I love the anticipation of the outcome. One of my favorites is Ocean's Eleven (it's a remake, and I never saw the original for this either)with George Clooney and Brad Pitt. I thought that was amazing and the detail they went through. The best is that it worked even with the "air-tight" security system they had at the casino. Another I liked was Thomas Crowne Affair (alas, another remake) with Pierce Brosman and Renee Russo. I thought they had great chemistry together and the movie was really good.

I remember watching The Italian Job.. it was a pretty good movie and the cinematography as well as directing and all that is good.

My brother-in-law let me borrow The Italian Job from his DVD collection last year. It was so good! I didn't expect it to be so entertaining. I guess my favorite "modern day" caper movie is The Transporter. And Jason Statham was in both films. The Transporter 2 stunk, but The Transporter 3 was okay.

I once saw a movie, an older one, called 'the Sting' with Robert Redford and Paul Newman. I thought it rather brilliantly thought out and executed. Whi could ever imagine thinking up such schemes! Ever see that one?

I'm not really a big fan of it. But I do like a few. One movie I recall is The Entrapment. I like how the story revolves between the two main characters, Catherine Zeta-Jones & Sean Connery.=)
