How to Become More Photogenic?

I am totally not a photogenic man. I always seem to come out looking hideous and I don't like to have my pictures taken. Sometimes, I am tired of hiding from the camera. My friends tell me that attitude is probably what caused my pictures to look bad, but I'm not sure if its like a disease that we can cure. You see, I always feel scared in front of the camera. Do you feel scared or self-conscious in front of the camera? Do you have some tips to make ourselves look better in pictures? Do you hate posing for the camera?

I hate to be in pictures, but the ones I look best in are those that are not posed for and that I am not aware that they are being taken. I am relaxed and don't worry about how I look. does that make sense?

Hey!! It's not that hard to be photogenic!! You just have to practice taking pictures A LOT!!! It might sound silly, but the more you practice, the better you get at finding out what looks good on camera, how you should tilt your head, what angle should the camera see, etc. I used to be terrible in pictures, but I just started camwhoring a lot and now I come out good in pictures. Anyone can do it! ;)

I find it hard to want to go out of my way to be in pictures. I don't really avoid them, but they always look better when it is not posed. When I take pictures of other people, I prefer them to be natural rather than posed because the people are more relaxed. People tell me I look fine when they take my picture, I just don't like to be the center of attention. Thanks for responding to me.

Hi GB, Just be comfortable of what you are and who you are. Be confident to face the camera and find your best angle—it matters a lot. JUST BE NATURAL. Beauty comes out naturally no need to exert so much effort to project. I am affirming the fact that there are really photogenic people… how I wish I am one of them--- 65% I am hahahahahaha!

Hello getbrowser. I think that a better way for us to be photogenic is to make ourselves look natural, the way we usually are. But I have to say that I am not photogenic at all. I also don't do a good job when I have a photo taken.

I absolutely hate posing for the camera. I am not photogenic. If I try to smile it makes me look worse as if I'm trying to smile. I suppose when I was younger I would have been considered someone handsome but have always felt myself to be on the plain side which does not make one photogenic. Photogenic people are usually the very handsome and very pretty but take pride in their appearance. The vast majority of people without a professional photographer do not take a good picture. That is just the way things are. Even the movie star some days in a take good photographs and you can see them in the gossip magazines.

We used to have this idea among our friends that photogenic people are those who look good in pictures. And that is just about it. They are only picture perfect. Don't be so hard on yourself. You should just let the beauty of the inner person shine through and people won't surely mind whether you look good in pictures or not. Inner beauty is often not captured by cameras and relationships are not built by staring at a picture but rather by interacting with people. But if you really, really want to come out better in pictures--try Photoshop! Good day!

I really am not that good in front of cameras. But I've learned from a friend who's into photography that first thing you need to do is to be comfortable when you're in front of the camera. You shouldn't be too self conscious to have your photo taken,'coz it really wouldn't look that nice when you look stiff and unnatural. So you need to practice and look at yourself in the mirror and feel good about yourself. Well they say everyone's got a good angle. So when you find it, then you practice it and show that off in front of the camera. I guess it takes a lot of practice specially when you're not that comfy when it comes to being in front of a camera. It's a good thing digicams are now available, so you can strike a pose, check your face, then delete if you don't like what you see. Then try again! :) Have fun! :)

I hate having my photo taken also, and think they look bad. I don't know of any way to improve yourself in photos.

I think we should start a club! Do you have a web cam on your PC? If so play around with it. That is what I did. I tried all different directions and poises. One thing I will tell you is looking up seems to help. If you have a lot of wrinkles use the hands under the cheek trick. Try it! Turn you head to the side and tip it, tip it from side to side.

I don’t mind having my picture taken, I just hate looking at the photos! Even those that turn out nice I still feel self conscious about! I think it comes down with not liking to look at yourself! It’s a shame and I wonder if we can ever change that...I don’t think there is anything you can do to become more photogenic, I think that may be a bit of a gift that some people have!

I am fairly photogenic so I don't hate the camera. What I can say is nobody takes a great picture every time, models have to take a hundred or more pictures before they get it right sometimes. The right clothes, make-up(and yes make-up even for men sometimes!) and positioning yourself properly helps a great deal.

I know what you mean because I am not photogenic either. I'm not particularly camera shy, but it is hard for me to stand still long enough to have a good photo taken. Maybe it is just that the people who usually want to take my picture are not fast photographers. It is better with digital cameras because they can take a lot of pictures and then just keep the best ones.

This is a good question. I am going through the responses got for this discussion because I want to become photogenic. Many people said that I look good in real compared to phtos. I think we need to smile and pose well to look good in picture. Also, photographer has a good part in making you attractive in pictures with certain techniques. There is a photographer nearby my parents' house. I didn't go for the reception when he got married, but my parents went. They took back a small card given at reception which had the photo of the guy and his wife. It was a thank you card. I looked at the picture of girl over and over. She looked very pretty. But, after sometime, I saw the girl at church and I found out that she was ugly. So, I think photographer has a big part too.

Hi there and smile! My husband always tell me that i am good like a model in front of cameras. I never think i will be photogenic but i am not shy to pose in front of cameras. I think it comes with practice. I suggest that you buy your own cam and get pictures of u alone. Try different angles and you will see what angle you look best. We are not perfect and sometimes we look so bad in pictures but i just laugh at it. I am not shy posing silly too. Practice and you will be great at it. If you cant afford to buy your own cam, try visiting photo studio shop. You can pay for shots but tell them to make it like a portrait. The photographer will be the one to study what angle you look best. When the picture is finish, it will make you confident that you look best in this or that angle. Then everytime you pose think of that angle and you will see you look fine. Even celebrities have their own best shot. Happy mylotting and smile always!

Oh I hate cameras. I look bad on cameras. Ahaha. But it can't be avoided. There will always be this family gathering, friends gathering, etc and I have to join and make a pose. What I did was I took a picture of myself when I'm alone and see what's the best angle for me. And I do tend to use that pose every time there's picture takings. :p shadow41

I think you're just being unfair to yourself, beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder so to speak. Not being photogenic is no longer a problem this days, with a digital camera you can basically not only look better but younger too, you can even look like a man or a woman and vice versa if you want LOL. Cheers!
