Carmelo Anthony 2009 MVP or Not a Shot?  

If the Nuggets have a impressive season, it's a possibility.

Carmelo for MVP? Not even a chance. First of all Kobe, Dwyane, Lebron or maybe Dwight Howard and KG still have one of the top teams in the NBA. Not even to mention the SPURS big three. Carmelo is a VERY good player, solid and clutch. But i think the "all star" status is all that he can reach which he has been since his rookie year. He seems to be a step behind the Kobes, the Lebrons to be a "Superstar" but he's just not there yet he just can't do it. He is a franchise player indeed but for the past years, he has not carried the denver to second round playoff. My second reason is, with the addition of BILLUPS i think it has overshadowed what Carmelo brings to the table. Afterall, they did passed the second round with Billups on the team. didn't they? With all that said, I would say he doesn't have a chance to win this season.

I really don't think so. I mean the Denver Nuggets is a great team, but look at the other teams, the nuggets have no chance to win the championship, but then again it doesn't matter. Kevin Garnett won the MVP Award when he was on the Timberwolves, and his team had no chance for an NBA title. However i think that the NBA MVP will be from the powerfull teams such as Lakers, Celtics, Cavaliers, Magic and San Antonio. My guess is either Kevin Garnett or Dwight Howard.

I basically agree with the other comments made; as good as Melo is, he is just a step behind Kobe, Lebron and D. Wade. How the team does will affect this a lot, but even if the Nuggets win 60+, it would take the Lakers and Spurs, Cavs, Celtics etc not winning to push Carmelo past the A-listers. However, some times the MVP doesn't go to the best player on the best team, in 05-06 Steve Nash was MVP but the Spurs, Mavs and Pistons all had better records than the Suns. All that being said, I think Garnett will be MVP, provided he stays healthy. The Celtics look scary and may even beat the 72-10 mark set by the Bulls. Stats-wise, I think D. Wade is going to have a huge year.

As long as Carmelo has Chauncey Billups on his side, he has a shot at becoming MVP. He has the skills to be one and Chauncey helps him win the games that he needs to be seriously considered an MVP candidate.

They need to be dominant as a team and Melo needs to do the superstar stuff that makes an MVP. He needs to be a gamechanger rather than just a pointmaker.

When J.R. Smith comes back, Melo will come back down to earth.

He's a prolific scorer and does a dceent job on the boards lately, but as long as LBJ, Wade, and Bean are healthy, he's gonna have a hard time landing MVP votes. Unless he comes away with a scoring title, which is unlikely, he'll just be 3rd or 4th in the voting.

Definitely a contender, he'd be top 5 the least but i personally think he has what it takes to compete with the top guns. And if the Nuggets get another good run like the last time, he'll be a lock at top 3. I still pick Bron and Kobe above him, possibly Wade if they do better, but he definitely is in the running.

Everything is so possible and with less than 10 games for each team in the NBA for the 2009-2010 season, it's still hard to predict as to who would win the MVP award. Carmelo Anthony is a great player. He can score tons of points, fill up the stats sheets with numbers, and even lead his team to a good number of wins for the season, especially that he's got somebody as good and intelligent as Chauncey Billups by his side. If the Denver Nuggets would go on with their winning ways and probably end up somewhere at the top 3 of the Western Conference, there's a good chance that Anthony's going to win it. Anthony's numbers in 7 games so far are 31.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game. Those are MVP type numbers. But the biggest hurdle for Anthony winning the MVP award? It could be Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, Dwight Howard, and even Steve Nash. These guys can put up very impressive stats night in and night out and lead their respective teams to victories. With the exception of Nash, each of these guys will be somewhere on top of the standings as the season ends. Though doubtful, Nash can also lead the Suns far this season if he's provided with a very good and deep support. Bryant, Wade, and James are all capable of averaging at least 30 points in a night while James alone can average more than 6 rebounds and 6 assists this season. Howard and Nash are 20-20 capable stars with Howard hitting 20-20 on both points and rebounds while Nash on points and assists.

So Carmelo Anthony for 2009-2010 MVP? Probably it's going to be a very tough competition.

Melo is a great guy.I belive he is better than Wade.

I LOVE CARMELO ANTHONY!!! and i really do think he has a great chance of being MVP, because he is having a great season. his ppg is now in the 40s which was way better than last season and he has a very charismatic personality!
