No Toilet, no Bride |
|
Most of the Indian villages there is no sanitary latrine. So women have to go to nearby crop fields or jungle to perform their natural call. For this reason very often the women have to face embarrassing situation before the men.The bitter experience compelled the affected women to rise the demand- 'where no latrine and toilet they will not choose bridegroom from that house for their daughters'. The slogan is like this: "No Toilet, No Bride". According to Indian Government statistics,in India 67 percent people are deprived from sanitary toilet.

bhanusb (1674) | 4 weeks ago | Yes the slogan is very attractive. For better atmosphere and environment their should be toilet in every house of India. But India is a poor country. At least the government should make some public toilets at every village.

2. wmraul (580) | 4 weeks ago | I just wonder .. the space is so limited on each one's house yard so they can not build a simple toilette?
Make a hole on the ground, about 1.5 - 2 m deep, aproximately square with a 1 - 1.5 m side; make a foundation of concrete or timber, with a round hole of half meter in the middle; take a toilette pot and install it above the hole; build 3 walls high enough to allow a person stand, a roof and a door as a 4-th wall.
Such a "construction" will be ok to use for years .. Actually, on villages, all people who want to build a house, this the first thing to build ... initially to be used by workers:-P

3. savypat (7609) | 4 weeks ago | We are taught that inadiquate sanitary conditions mean very poor health practices, so almost everyone has latrine indoors if not they will have one outdoors in a seperate building called an outhouse. We only go outdoors when camping or hiking where there are no other choices.

|
bhanusb (1674) | 4 weeks ago | Most of the Indian villagers are poor and illiterate. They are not health conscious. They don't know about the utility of sanitary latrine.

| 4. MissKatPegasus (67) | 4 weeks ago | I'd change it to "No toilet, not a chance". I remember my parents remodeled the bathroom in my house when I was a kid and we were without a toilet for like 2 days and it was absolute hell to use the little potty thing they had. Could you imagine going in a field? With nothing to wipe with?? Ewww I won't even go in the woods.

bhanusb (1674) | 4 weeks ago | Yes I must agree your slogan is more attractive. Suppose you are traveling in a African jungle. Where you will get a toilet in a jungle? You will have to use leaf of trees instead of toilet paper. that will be very funny.
| |
|
|
| MissKatPegasus (67) | 3 weeks ago | I wouldn't go there because I know I wouldn't get a proper toilet or shower. I'm just prissy like that.

bhanusb (1674) | 4 weeks ago | You live in America. You can't imagine the living condition of rural India. India is called an emerging economy. But it's the picture urban India. Rural people of India are very poor and they have no sense of sanitation and healthy living. Most of the Asian countries are same as India. Yes the Indian government should arrange communal outhouse.

|
|
speakeasy (1423) | 4 weeks ago | You are right; I do live in America. But, that does not mean that I am stupid, ignorant, and unaware of conditions in the rest of the world.
Outhouses do not have to be made out of modern materials that cost money. All an outhouse requires are something to dig the hole, materials to make a seat with a hole in it (and actually they can squat over the hole without a seat; but, the seat makes it easier for the old and infirm to use), and 3 walls with a door/screen for the remaining side with a covering to keep out the elements. If these people plant crops they have the ability to dig the hole. The walls and door can be made out of many different things - handmade mud blocks, woven vines and leaves from the jungle or wood from the jungle. These are the same things they make their houses out of; or, do you really think I am stupid enough to think they do not have any shelters to live in???
"they have no sense of sanitation and healthy living."Modern ideas have been filtering out to even the poorest villages. That is how the women came up with the slogan - "no Toilet, no Bride" in the first place. Modern ideas are reaching rural areas!
"Yes the Indian government should arrange communal outhouse"- if the people wait for the Indian government to do this they will be waiting for a long time. The Indian government has a lot of other priorities that they are working on - clean water, food, employment, and basic education.
Projects like this are best accomplished when the people of the village get together and do it themselves. Then, the people who will actually benefit from it are volunteering their time and the materials; and, they will do a better job of meeting their own needs. They will also maintain it better if they build it themselves. Waiting for the "government" to "fix" things and make everything better is just plain lazy when you are talking about something this simple and basic.

6. zed_k4 (4335) | 4 weeks ago | I can understand why that demand has been made. It would definitely be very embarrassing for ladies not too have any sanitary toilet. No latrine and toilet can really be worrying for a lady, I can only imagine. Hopefully in this way some will be made so that the brides to be will give consent to their groom to be.

7. ybong007 (848) | 4 weeks ago | a very good suggestion, a lot of people all over the world consider their bathroom (toilet) as a special place especially women. It's about time that women in your area will make this as a requirement because this will not only benefit them but the environment in general as well. Cheers!
| |
| |
|
|
bhanusb (1674) | 4 weeks ago | Yes toilet is a special place not only for women but for men also. When you have to travel by a country boat you can feel that. Then you may jump to the river to get rid of 'that'.

8. silverglint (1479) | 4 weeks ago | wow, I don't think I would last a day without a sanitary toilet. I don't think I would ever dare to just hide behind the bushes or something like that. It is about time that they take consideration of female needs.
