Baby, it's COLD outside! |
|
I think we're going to have an early Winter, at least here in northern Virginia, we are. It has just now gone down to 32 degrees F. That's freezing to the Celcius users. It was over 70 degrees F just 2 days ago, now it's freezing. Strange weather, we're having!
Have you had freezing temperatures where you live yet? If you have, is it early for this kind of weather or right on time? The weather we've had all year has been very unusual. Do you think this is going to be normal weather from now on? I mean, very unpredictable weather. They're calling for snow here tomorrow but we've already had a snow warning, last month.
Yesterday, I dug up and brought inside some lemon trees I started from seeds and I'm so glad I didn't wait until today (which I was thinking about doing) because they weren't calling for a freeze this morning. It just happened. This is nuts!

11. Irishfrndly65 (7474) | 2 months ago | So far I think we are pretty normal. Mid 40's to low 50's at night and mid 70's in the days. It's been pretty nice, but the mosquitoes, that stayed away during the heat, are now out in force. They don't bother me, but they LOVE my son! No, it ain't cause the lil buggers sweet either, he just LOOKS that way! I should have made him Dennis the Menace at Halloween! hee

13. CatsandDogs (5171) | 2 months ago | We've had some really cold days and even had frost on our cars one morning a couple of weeks ago but it's warmed back up yet again and now they're calling for more cold weather to come next week or so. This is what they call Indian Summer, when the weather turns so nice and back to being cold again. We closed our pool a month early because of the cold air so no, this isn't normal. I have a big feeling that we're in for a hard hard winter this year. Lovely. Just lovely. NOT!

16. lelin1123 (4677) | 2 months ago | I'm in New Mexico and last week we already had a little bit of snow. It was gone the same day but it was quite early. We usually don't get it till December or January. Today we had weather up to 70 degrees right now at 12:53am its 42 degrees. Tomorrow it will be reaching 70 again. I'm soaking the sun up because I know it will be cold and staying cold real soon. Can't stand the cold weather at all. Good luck with your weather this winter.

17. froggieslover (1360) | 2 months ago | We have already had snow here once and they are calling for it again tonight. I am really surprised that we haven't had more snow, I know last year we had snow before Halloween and it got cold. There was at least a week where it was below zero and it seemed nothing was working to keep yourself warm. I am never ready for the colder weather to hit, it always seems to come way to early and way to fast. It has been getting cold here since about early September and the summer was absolutely horrible with all the rain we got and the colder air. They say it is going to be a hard winter and I believe it.

mentalward (4373) | 2 months ago | I believe it, too. This entire year has been crazy. We had the above-normal rainfall this past Spring, WAY above normal. It drowned out my veggie garden, my first planting, anyway. I had to do a second planting later in the Spring so my garden wasn't as good as I was hoping.
We've had the threat of snow here in northern Virginia but, so far, we've lucked out. It doesn't normally snow until December but our first threat of it this year was early in October. I don't like it! Nope, not one bit!
I guess we'll just have to batten down the hatches and get used to it, huh?

mentalward (4373) | 2 months ago | Okay, okay, so that word has always befuddled me. A rose by any other spelling...
Seems our memories always have it really bad. I remember snowstorms that dumped 3 or 4 feet of snow before ending. As I got older, the snow never seemed to be as bad, well, except for the infamous "Winter of '79" when we had 5 feet of snow dumped on us in 2 weeks time. THAT sucked! Especially because we lived in a corner house and had more sidewalk to shovel than most. (Guess who got the job of shoveling it. ) The cars were white humps and the fence around our house completely disappeared.
Lemons and all other tropical fruits will grow just fine outside... in the summer. They have to be brought inside in the winter. I threw some lemon seeds in the ground last summer just to see if they'd grow. Well, they did. I have about a dozen little lemon trees! Yeah, I know I'll have to throw them out or build a conservatory if I want them to grow to maturity because they'll never fit inside the house. I planted one of my banana plants in the garden last summer, too. I was hoping that, with being in the ground instead of in a pot, it would produce bananas but, well, not this year. It's now back in the house in a pot. Sigh! I'll be putting my lemons and bananas under grow lamps very soon.
It actually got down to 28F here yesterday morning. WAAAAAY too cold! It's 33F right at the moment and, since the sun has yet to come up, I'm sure it's going to get even colder before it warms up some today. I'm not too fond of winter, does it show?
