If religion is real, what purpose do other galaxies and planets serve? |
|
Lately I have been studying space in my free time. Of course, starting with some Carl Sagan to get more into it scientifically; as he is fairly easy to understand. Now a question I raise is, what purpose do all of these other galaxies and planets serve? The Earth is a tiny spec, beyond tiny, in the vastness of space. I find it strange to think that religion would be so confined to this small region. If God is real, he would exist throughout the galaxy; but if nothing else exists in the galaxy then what is the purpose of every thing?

1. Pose123 (5731) | 4 weeks ago | Hi ulalume, You make a very good point if someone believes that life exists only on this planet. I am spiritual but not religious and often feel that most religions do more harm than good. We are, I believe, spiritual beings having a human experience and all planets have their purpose. Of course no one can prove life after death but we all have our thoughts. It is all a great mystery. Blessings.

Earth is protected by several layers from cold to heat millions of times hotter than usual fire, so before fraction of planets or galaxies to the earth they has no left. Calculations based on day, month, and year, the end is we obtain a variety of calendars from just seeing Galaxies planetary positions and while we're on earth and humans continue to grow until now.

There is life in this galaxy besides us. When you have the wisdom to be able to travel the distances, you will discover. Can you really say at this given point in time that the people of the Earth are ready???? Lots of lessons are needed still. In time, man will get there. They will even terraform mars. Not quite ready yet!!

I have never been religious, but I believe I am spiritual. I believe God is within every one of us, and in everything we see. Everything in the universe has an important role to play. The thing is to realise that each one of us can manifest the divine within if we try.
I agree that religion is often misguiding. Chanting mantras is not going to make us better people. We need to act in the right ways. Live and let live. Follow the Middle Way that does not allow extremes. This is the true Buddhist attitude.
And it was Albert Einstein who said that if there is a "religion" of the future, it is Buddhism. It's the only "religion" he admired. I put religion in quotes because Buddhism is not a religion but a philosophy and a way of life.
Just google Albert Einstein on Buddhism and you'll find some gems.

7. Harley009 (590) | 4 weeks ago | God Says in Quran that he created earths and heavens (universes) and he put living creators in it. So there must be living creators in earth and in many other globes or other areas of universe.
Also God mentions that he created it to think ourselves and understand the Creator and maintainer of the huge massive universe(s) and its different parts and how powerful the creator is.
When you analyze scientifically you can understand how accurately designed the revolving and motions of each planet and they are not collapsing to a destruction. This all implies a powerful creator and planner behind it.
Peace.

Now we know that America "needs" to exist. Few decades later we may as well populate Mars and few centuries later Jupiter/Saturn etc. The question won't then be a challenge for those who believe in God.
But what do you think the meaning of your life? Just curious...

ulalume (515) | 6 days ago | You're counter question actually is very interesting and has sparked my interest. I've genuinely never considered things in that light, and its great! Not that I necessarily agree with it, but it is interesting. I personally don't believe in my life having any "meaning." All is temporary and relatively purposeless.

headhunter525 (1445) | 3 days ago | The universe started as a Bang and ultimately it will wither and die out. You and I are just part of the furniture of the universe that bloom now but will die someday; and not just you and I but your parents and loved ones too, and so on. But can't there be something beyond that? Well, may or may not but I guess it's more interesting to assume that something may be there beyond that. Just to say that all will die and that's it seem not to delicious to me. And I think since human person is a meaning seeking being, I guess, life has no ultimate meaning sounds unnerving to me. Good day!
