| my activity | ulalume started a new discussion called If religion is real, what purpose do other galaxies and planets serve? in religion. 3 weeks ago
Lately I have been studying space in my free time. Of course, starting with some Carl Sagan to get more into it scientifically; as he is fairly easy to understand. Now a question I raise is, what purpose do all of these other galaxies and planets serve? The Earth is a tiny spec, beyond tiny, in the vastness of space. I find it strange to think that religion would be so confined to this small re... |
 | ulalume responded to a discussion called The 10 percent......... in religion. 4 weeks ago
I do not think it is necessarily biblical that a person has to give 10 percent of their earnings to god (IE: the church). I think those verses have more to do with giving up parts of your lives specifically for god. Your time is just as important as the money you have. I personally will never give to a church, and more than likely never to a charity again because I read so much about how these ... |
 | ulalume responded to a discussion called Halloween - something we should be celebrating? in religion. 4 weeks ago
If your a pagan (as I am) than Halloween is a pretty important holiday. That said, in this modern day USA it is pretty sidelined by all of the stupidity and gimmicks. So many people don't even know much of the origin of Halloween, yet they argue it is celebrating Satan and all this other crap primarily because of the relatively dark imagery this time of year I assume. |
 | ulalume responded to a discussion called I can, in no good conscience, call Scientology a religion. This is a cult. in religion. 4 weeks ago
Of course it is a cult, however it is no more of a cult than any other religion. The only reason you are calling them out is for the extremity of their beliefs. I am a psychology major in college, and I have spent time writing several papers on the idea of brainwashing, cults, and religion all overlapping. There is no denying that in many religious circles (like Christianity) there are equally ... |
 | ulalume responded to a discussion called Peoples Beliefs Of No Religion in religion. 1 week ago
I am an atheist (basically). Where do we go when we die? To our grave. I personally believe in all things being energy (on some level or another). I think its rational to believe that all things that have energy will continue to have energy, even after they change form. I suppose the significant difference between atheism and religious beliefs is the belief in AWARENESS after death. Being compo... |
 | ulalume received a best response in the discussion Funerals, wakes and viewings for the NON religious by JodiLynn. 2 weeks ago While I agree with you in a lot of ways, I think funerals and viewings are an important part for a lot of families to aid in someones passing. When discussing funerals I am often thrown back to several years ago when my sister passed away. Sure, having an open casket is basically meaningless in a lot of ways. I definitely agree that people shouldn't be wasting so much money on a nice casket tha... |
 | ulalume received a best response in the discussion what belief is the most different to yours imaginable? by jb78000. 2 months ago The belief of atheism is more open-ended than how you describe it. Sure, not every atheist is a moral less animal as a religious person would describe them; but there is not really a similarity between them and, say a Christian.
In my case, I am an atheist. I would most closely fit with belief's on the Left-Hand path (Satanism, Paganism, Wicca, Shamanism, etc.), and not fit with Right-Hand ... |
