I was in the emergency room last night because of a tooth!

I had all 4 of mine out at once, too, but mine all had to be surgically removed because they never came in. They were all facing forward and pushing my other teeth together so my whole mouth hurt. I have a photo around here somewhere that my mother took when my face looked like a basketball. I'll try to find it and post it here. It's always good for a laugh! My face bruised badly and was really strange looking when the bruises turned green. I was green from my eyebrows to my shoulders, yet I still went in to work. Glad I didn't work with the public.

His appointment is at 1:45 this afternoon in Leesburg, 55 miles from here. It's the closest oral surgeon I could find who would take the tooth out today, so that's where we're headed. At least I know the way. This oral surgeon is almost neighbors with my rheumatologist. I wish I could combine appointment times to make one trip out of two appointments but I'm not scheduled to see my doctor until next month.

I haven't heard from him yet today and haven't seen him online so I guess those Lortabs are working good.

I'm so glad he is getting it taken care of today..I know he's got to be in pain...i know what you mean with having them all taken out,that is what happened to me to...like i said i went to a party after wards.. looked like a chipmunk but i went....Lori

Well, it's all over. He said he's so glad it's all over but the healing now. He also feels extremely guilty because he couldn't pay for this. I paid for it with a special debit card I have just for medical bills. Thank goodness there was enough money in it to cover this! It cost over $500.00!!! And that was with a 10% discount for paying cash with no insurance! They sure do know how to take advantage of us, don't they? Dentists usually get upset if we don't come in every 6 months for a cleaning and checkup but they don't seem to realize that they are way too expensive for most of us! When it comes down to eating or going to the dentist, most people choose to eat.

We have dental insurance but there hasn't been enough money to pay for what that doesn't pay for, so I haven't seen a dentist in a couple of years now. I can't wait to receive that back disability money (IF I ever do! It's not here yet!) because I need to get to the dentist. Fibromyalgia can cause dry mouth and, of course, I have it and it causes cavities. (I asked my rheumatologist about it and that's what she told me.) I have a few teeth that need work. That's one thing I always find the money for, especially when it involves the front teeth. I think I'm going to have all my front teeth veneered when I get the money. Almost half of them have crowns on them already. I hate teeth! But, I've always wanted pretty teeth so that'll be a treat to myself.

OMG $500.00 freakin dollars??What did they di pull it with gold pullers? Why in hte heckso much? That is rediculous to have to pay that amount for one tooth!!I guess because it was on such short notice, & an emergency that they can get away with charging that much?! I would have had a cow had that happened to me....Luckily you had that emergency ctedit card for such emergencies...

Good for you, when you do get your money set it up to get your teeth done.. I regret when mine got knocked out,& now my dentures do not fit, so i cannot wear my teeth..It sucks big time, as i love to smile & laugh, & it makes me sooo self conscious about not having teeth...They are very important for your well being, & ego!! Well, wisdom teeth are supposed to be permanent teeth but very few are too permanent. I've never known anyone who didn't have problems with those teeth since they're so far back in the mouth. I never even saw mine, they never came through the gums. They faced forward and pushed all my other teeth together until I had to have them removed. I'm glad his came through, at least. It just needs to be pulled.

They all faced forward and pushed my other teeth together so badly that they became crooked. Once I had them cut out, my teeth went back where they belonged, at least the top ones did. My bottom teeth are still crooked from those darned wisdom teeth that I never even saw!

Hi Binthu. The wisdom teeth are the last permanent teeth to come in, all the way in the back. I haven't known anyone who kept their wisdom teeth, though. Usually, they only cause problems and there's usually not enough room in the mouth for them. I don't even know why we have them to begin with. Mine had to be cut out of my jaws because they never grew through the gums and they all faced forward, pushing all my other teeth together so badly they all got crooked. I'm glad that my son's tooth at least has come through so it only needs to be pulled.

He's 25 years old now and has had problems with his teeth his whole life. His first dentist said he had soft enamel and got quite a few cavities even though he took good care of his teeth. He told me last night that he would like to just get them all pulled and get dentures. I told him he really doesn't want that because dentures can be even more trouble. His teeth really are beautiful, for the most part, even though almost every one has a filling or a crown.

You sound like me, dragon! I was 24, but my wisdom teeth never poked through. They all faced forward and were pushing against my other teeth, crowding them until they got crooked. I had to have mine cut out surgically, too, all at once. I'll never recommend that to anyone! My face swelled up like a basketball and my mouth was so tiny in those fat cheeks. LOL I even laughed at myself, even though I was in a lot of pain and bruised pretty badly.

I didn't have to have my jaw broken, though. OUCH!!! I guess it's good to have that kind of stuff done when we're young because we tend to heal so much faster when we're young.

I hate teeth. All they do is cause problems. I have dry mouth, caused by my fibromyalgia. It has caused me all kinds of dental problems. I've had maybe 5 root canals and need at least 3 more right now. Before long, all my teeth will have crowns on them. Oh, well, at least they'll be easier to take care of.


You know, this is strange. You, Lori and I all had our wisdom teeth taken out at one time. An Aries thing, maybe? Well, we're supposed to watch out for our heads because we're prone to head injuries (being the head-butting rams we are).

You bit into that blow pop, didn't you! Ah, the things we do to our poor teeth! I can't tell you how many things I've opened with my teeth (nail polish bottles, toothpaste tubes, etc.). I cracked a tooth on a hamburger once. Yeah, really. It had a small bone chip in the meat and I found out the hard way.

I can certainly believe you about your father being hospitalized! I had a friend when we were both in our 20's and she had one of her wisdom teeth extracted, which became infected and her throat swelled up to the point where she could barely swallow. I guess it was a good thing she was young!

It's amazing, though, that your father didn't have problems long ago from his wisdom teeth. I know that most people have problems early on. Mine didn't even poke through the gums when I had to have mine removed! One was infected (I'd love to know how that happened!) and they were all facing forward and pushing my other teeth to the point where they were shifting and getting crooked.

I had no insurance, either, when I had mine out, but it only cost $240.00 for all four! Well, that was quite awhile ago, too. My son's visit today cost over $500.00 for just one tooth! And, it didn't need to be cut out, it was already through the gum. I think part of that charge was for the "emergency" part of it. I hate the way they take advantage of our dilemmas. I know it didn't cost the doctor anywhere NEAR that much to remove the tooth. My son was only in with the dentist about 20 minutes! The dentist took a panoramic X-ray, which was not needed. That made me angry! A panoramic X-ray for one wisdom tooth? We weren't there for all four, just the one. Yeah, they take advantage of us, all right.

Oh, I forgot to mention that the $240.00 I paid for all four teeth also included general anesthesia. This doctor my son went to wanted over $500.00 just for local anesthesia and another $500.00 if he needed to use a general anesthesia! I despise dentists. I asked my son if he wanted to go to dental school.

I think most people end up having all their wisdom teeth out because they almost always get cavities. They are so far back in the mouth that it's hard to brush behind them. I hope you are able to get all yours out before they cause you any more problems.

"Ow" doesn't really describe the pain of an abscess! I'm sure you know that. My stepfather had an abscess and told the dentist that he didn't even want his mouth numbed, to go ahead and pull the tooth out. He said it felt BETTER than when the tooth was still there, even without Novocaine. I can't imagine having a tooth pulled without it!

I was asleep when they cut mine out. I guess you were, too?

I was put to sleep, too. I drank all my meals for the next week or so because I swelled up so badly. Did your face look like a basketball, too?

I never thought of baby food! That would have been great! Canned vegetable soup is also good when you can't open or close your jaws because you can squish the veggies against the roof of your mouth with your tongue. Just a little trick I learned back then. LOL I could fit my little finger through my front teeth but it wouldn't open or close any more than that for almost a week.

My oldest son's wisdom teeth are like you described yours, but his jaw hasn't locked, thank goodness. He keeps saying he wants them out but is more of a pain weenie than I am, and that's saying something!

yea,i had no choice,my jaw was stiff for like a week after-he said the fight was on to get them out. my face really didn't swell much,i was surprised.
i expected to wake up with pumpkin head.

they do usually put you out tho,so he should be fine if they remove them.
