Dr oz and your grocery store making you ill | | I was watching Dr Oz the other day and some of what he had to show almost made me not want to go to the grocery store any more. Some of the ones he showed had very filthy store rooms. People were handling bread from bens instead of useing tongs. When those bread bens were cleaned out they found a lot of fake finger nails. some delis don't keep the cold areas cold enough and the hot ares hot enough. And the fresh produce being handled by the customers was really disgusting. One lady was crawling on a pile of produce with her shoes to get to the top of the pile. People licking their fingers to open those plastic produce bags then handling the produce. At least 20 people have handled that same produce before you buy it. Then there's the meat. Stores are allowed to pump carbon monoxide into meat packaging, which though not harmful, gives the meat a fresh appearance no matter how long it’s been sitting on the shelf. I have two grandkids that work at the same grocery store and I ask them about some of these things at their store (Publix). They told me that not only are they inspected by the local health department but they also have an outside company come in at least once a month to make sure every thing is up to par. My daughter that works at walmart told me they also have out side company that come into inspect. But what about those stores that you don't know any one that works there do you think your grocery store is safe?

It is discusting to thing there are people who really do not care until caught, and then they still blame it on something else as well. But it does pay to be Health conscious and aware as it is a lot easier and cheaper than getting sick off of something for sure.

I've known about the meat for quite some time, my dad told me. What if we showed food in its natural states, would people still want it?

dragon54u (9653) | 1 month ago | I used to buy from those bins before my low-carb, low-sugar diet I'm on now. It never really bothered me to think that someone may have handled them, though. I always toast them or warm them in the oven so any germs are gone.
I think it's sad that we are horrified when we think of another human touching our food. I understand why people feel that way with all the viruses and germs around now that are deadly, but it's just sad. We're losing touch with our humanity and isolating ourselves in every way.

Their level of cleanliness is good, and their meats seem fresh and not messed with to keep them looking fresh. What hasn't sold (meat or bakery) on the day it's first put out, is marked discounted for the next day. Let's say I've never gotten anything 'bad' before. There is one small grocery that I will never step foot in again! For a mom and pop type grocery you'd think they'd have more sense than to pull the kinds of stuff they do. I've only been in there a few times many years ago, and the last time I went I saw this meat on sale that looked to be a good piece of meat at a reasonable price. I bought it and when I cooked it it was spoiled!! The sandwich I had bought there (pre-made) also had spoiled meat in it. I vowed I'd never go back there, and I haven't. I like that Dr Oz show, he brings up good points we don't always think about.

deebomb (9001) | 1 month ago | I wouldn't buy bread form those bens if I shopped at a store that had them. My son did the refrigeration for many of the grocery stores around here and he said you would be surprised at what he ran into sometimes. Here the day old bread is sent to the food pantry.

I know that sometimes when I am reaching into the produce to pick out my vegetables, I sometimes think about things like this. But never in this much detail. I wonder where the stores were that Dr. Oz was showing. He does come up with some unique stuff on his show.
It amazes me, with all the television programs out there today, that they keep coming up with new stuff. If I'm not mistaken, Dr. Oz just came out this year or last year. That is, at least in our area. And what I have seen, has been informative. Although, I haven't yet made it a habit to watch him on a regular basis. There are a couple of other shows that I usually like to watch at that time in the morning.
Then again, I am sure that I could always go online and watch it any time of day.
By the way, I wanted to mention that I love your avatar!

deebomb (9001) | 1 month ago | Dr Oz has just come on this last October. I try not to miss any of his shows even though I don't agree with some of his dietary ideas. He is very informative. His show is produced in New York city.
