How do rate Barack Obama's performance? email this discussion to a friend?

myLot reputation of 84/100. dsnachiever (143)   ranked 1,157 out of 6,333 in politics3 weeks ago

Barack Obama became the President of United states one year ago. People have lot of hope from him. But I think so far he has failed to address some of the issues. I don't want to discuss the issues in particular. But if you have to rate his performance, how you will rate it in scale of 1 to 5 ( 1-very bad, 2-Bad, 3-Average, 4-Good, 5- Very good)?

confusedI am not American, so addressing the domestic issues is not my place (though if I were, I would give him a 2thumbdown - the deficit is out of control, unemployment is still rising. Even if Bush's fingerprints are on the cause of all this, I still see this as a negative).

On international issues (and that affects all of us in the international community), he has started well. I would give him a 4happy. I would have given Clinton a 5 (he was the best President IMHO on international issues since Eisenhower, apart from initial mistakes in Somalia and Rwanda - but he learned. Obama may do the same).

Thank you astonysh for quick response. I also hope his performance will be good in coming years. And United states will be out of recession very soon.

OMG, Clinton was the best in foreign relations??????? Oh, yes, everyone loved him - because he handed more of our country's wealth and secrets to them than anyone else ever considered doing! Of course he did fit right in with many countries in thinking every woman was his for the grabbing!

There have been a few hundred thousand complaining. The Tea Parties continue across the country begging this man to stop being so liberal with our money and let us keep at least a little bit to support our families. He has so many taxes coming our way that those keeping their homes during the mortgage debaucle may not be able to pay once all these taxes hit.
About his promise to help the little guy, well so far he and the states, too, have raised cigarette taxes by $1.25-$3.00 per pack. Guess who smokes the most these days - the little guy. They are also raising taxes on sugary drinks, alchohol, vending machine goodies, not to mention the Value Added tax they are working on. The VA tax means everything you buy will go up with every part ordered. That $50 DVD player could double in cost because of that lovely tax. That goes for any item anyone might buy.
I think a whole lot of people are complaining. My request is vote every politician currently in office OUT. Let's clean house with our votes and start by voting in someone who has never attempted to or been an attorney. That's all we have in office right now, which is why every bill is 2000 pages long and cannot be read by anyone...it's all legal speak.

myLot reputation of 58/100. Maggiepie (1411)   ranked 1,473 out of 6,333 in politics  3 weeks ago

Actually--though the so-called "mainstream media" refuse to report it, that's millions of people who are complaining!

There are many ways to prove this, not the least of which is the "pink slip" movement, which has sent over 4 & a half million slips to Washington, telling those there that certain actions will result in their losing the next round of elections.

The top action which will get them fired is the one nearest & dearest to Obama's...well, I was going to say heart, but he showed he doesn't have one of those with his cheery "shout out" to someone, before he plastered on a look of solemnity to talk about the Ft. Hood massacre.... Anyway, as I was going to say, the health care reform bill is at the top of the list. It is extremely unpopular, for extremely good reasons!

By the way, to put it in perspective, the stack of pink slips is now taller than the Sears Building. And there are other measurements available, if you look for them.

I'm just sayin'....

Mysticothermaggie (lol), I think the poster is a prime example of the kind of jellobrain who didn't bother to learn what O was about before voting for him. Some people are just a waste of skin, y'know? No complaints or compliments!? What sort of cave does this person inhabit? I just gotta wonder... confused

I would rate him at about a -2. The economy is failing, unemployment is still rising, our enemies abroad are smiling, and he wont take responsibility for ANYTHING! He has appointed an unbelievable amount of extremists with out senate confirmation, he has stomped our constitution at every turn.
But I will say this - he told every body "We are going to fundamentally change America" this promise he seems to want to keep.

I would give him a 5 thumbup for being the globe trotter holding in one hand a plate of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and in the other colorful melt in your mouth M&M's to ensure he is loved by the enemies of the United States.
On the home front unemployment is at 10.2% highest in 26 year's,signing billions of our tax dollars away for two generations not caring what is even in the bills being he did not read them he get's a 0 thumbdown, over all he has done nothing to improve the country except put the country so far in the hole we can never dig our way out, won't be long the United States will be begging for a slice of bread and will get in return a stone.

myLot reputation of 91/100. mysticmaggie (234)   ranked 1,102 out of 6,333 in politics  3 weeks ago

Kenny, that's Trillions not Billions. In any given year up until this past one, the US printed mostly money to replace worn out bills. This is the first president to not give a hang how much money he prints. The rest of the world is seriously looking at making the Chinese currency the leading world currency instead of the dollar. At that point we'd better have ENORMOUS purses to carry our shopping money in...oh, I forgot the stores will be empty because the owners won't be able to afford to stock the shelves.

Of course, at that point, Mr. O will decide the government needs to take over all grocery stores, too. But I wouldn't hold my breath for him to give the bread away free!

1. He has done nothing but hurt America from the first day he took office. Unemployment is the highest it's been since 1983, consumer confidence is down, his ratings are way down, he's shown an immature and unprofessional attitude in his war with Fox News as well as any conservative media personalities, he pushes things in a panic, then thumbs his nose at people who protest. Our international image is embarrassing. He doesn't understand diplomacy and continues to make empty promises that he can't fulfill.

myLot reputation of 21/100. kennyrose (4038)   ranked 2,986 out of 6,333 in politics  3 weeks ago

Obama understands diplomacy very well, with out question his heart of hearts is not with the people of the United States but is with every one that thinks the United Staets is their enemy,Obama would not if he had his choice fly the American flag at half mass today in respect for the dead at Fort Hood, the ratical Muslim who murdered 13 in cold blood yesterday is why all of our American flag's are at half mass today, Obama don't have the heart to fight and kill his own people the ratical Muslims,I don't know why people spin or fluff this fact because it is a dam fact.
Ya so what,no one is going to do a dam thing about it because they all both parties are behind all of this ilegal corruption in our govemnment actually Barack Obama is only the puppet, get over it that is how the hell it is.

myLot reputation of 84/100. dsnachiever (143)   ranked 1,157 out of 6,333 in politics  3 weeks ago

I also doubt his diplomacy skills. Because he is always trying to please all the parties in any dispute or issue. That is why I doubt his diplomatic actions. But I might be wrong. The time will tell this.

I believe Obama is a one term president. I also believe that he and his entire election entourage knew that wht they were about to perpetrate on the US wouldn't be very popular but could be successful given the unprecidented majorities in both houses. Obama is more than just another liberal he is a statist with an agenda of totally changing the face of America. His agenda is more than just socialism or even communism because what he is striving for is total redistribution of everything and all of it controlled by the government. Right now he is on track to make this happen and if he and his accomplices in congress succeed in getting control of America's health care industry I don't believe there wil be a way to stop him short of total rebellion and a revolution which will be very bloody. So, if you ask me about Obama's performance it will run something like this:

As far as doing anything good and constructive for America and her citizens he get's an F but as far as achieving his goals and sticking to his agenda no matter who it hurts then he get's a huge A+.

myLot reputation of 84/100. dsnachiever (143)   ranked 1,157 out of 6,333 in politics  3 weeks ago

Before the election I also had a thought that he will totally change United States. But till so far there is no such change in United states. May be he is only a person who believe in speaking but not in doing.

I was hoping a "0" was among the options, but since it's not I have to settle for a -1.

He thinks he's God. Children are being taught to sing his praises instead of His praises. He's done nothing, nada, zilch to help this country and he must have some of his friends, Chicago mobsters, holding a gun to anyone who would dare to challenge his citizenship.

I a word, I think he STINKS! And a good number of my black friends think the same.

myLot reputation of 91/100. mysticmaggie (234)   ranked 1,102 out of 6,333 in politics  3 weeks ago

He doesn't need mobsters since he has the ability to sic the IRS, the business auditors on anyone who goes against him. Do you think if this guy had an honest bone in his body, he would let all of these tax cheats run our IRS system? By the way, does he know anyone who isn't a tax cheat or terrorist????

Foreign policy wise, I would give him a 3 (harsh) or 4 (generous). He has certainly changed the tone, but we have yet to see concrete results (ie a new Start treaty with Russia, climate change deal, Israel-Palestine conflict)

Domestically, I would only give him a 2 so far, though I think expectations of a quick economic turnaround are overblown - economies are like super tankers, they take time to turn around. On other things, like healthcare, much debate but no concrete results as yet.

To be honest, I take the view that it is difficult to pass judgement on a new administration unless they have been in office for around 2 years. If by then, Obama and the Dems cannot show some results domestiscally (economy/ jobs/ healthcare) or foreign policy wise (Afghanistan/ Russia relations/ climate change/ Israel-Palestine), then they will get spanked in the mid-terms and rightly so. If on the other hand they can show some results and some good work in progress, then they may do reasonably well in the mid-terms, though I suspect they will still lose seats even in this scenario (inevitable electoral pendulum will swing back to the Republicans - the question is by how much and that will largely be determined by Obama's and the Dems' peformance over 2 years)

myLot reputation of 91/100. mysticmaggie (234)   ranked 1,102 out of 6,333 in politics  3 weeks ago

Has he changed the tone in foreign affairs?? He's gone everywhere telling them how awful the United States is and apologizing profusely for our country existing. He talked with Iran and just this week they snubbed anything he thought he got, saying they refused to go along with his wishes or the UN's. Russia is looking and laughing at his weak-kneed approach. They figure they have him where they need him. He figured if he bowed to other leaders and accepted their trash books and cut the country he leads to ribbons, he could ask for help in Afghanistan and get it....NOPE. They told him forget it. Bush did much better at getting assistance from other countries. Misspeaking cowboy he might have been, but every world leader knew he would fight for his country! They have no such thoughts when it comes to Obama. Look at how he's hanging our men and women out to dry without even sending more of OUR troops to help. Can't seem to make up his feeble mind.

..Hi dsachiever, How about we let the man have at least one year in office, since it took the previous administration eight years to put us in this crappy situation.
It is going to take time for the things implemented to take hold, with the jobs being the last to move in any measurable way. The fall out is going to continue. With the growth in the third quarter, if it holds, there appears to be movement. But I am certainly willing to give him and his administration time to show progress. Naturally all of those who can't stand him period won't have a single good word to say, it's as someone stated sometime ago, "If I walked on water, they would say I couldn't swim", so those people can sit on the sidelines and watch the parade. They would have rather had Senator McCain with his dementia and crazy Sarah, so just watch and weep as things turn around and those one term wishes vanishes. Easy does it. The Nobel prize committee recognized that he has such potential, they gave him a shield to ward off the negative opposition, I love it. Those wishing him ill, all almost blew an artery when it was announced. Amazing. Right now
I give him a 6 for being the hardest working, smartest, most articulate president we have had in a long time. Cheers!

The Pulitzer is supposed to be for achievement not for possible achievement. So far he has not achieved much except to put us further in debt than Bush ever thought of doing.

I was not happy with Bush throughout his terms, but at least I knew he had guts enough to stand up for his country. This president seems to be too busy kissing foreign rearends as he apologizes for us being alive.

Give him another term and our country will be worse off than the President's brother!

myLot reputation of 85/100. artistry (459)   ranked 2,097 out of 6,333 in politics  3 weeks ago

...Hey there mysticmaggie, The Nobel Prize not the Pulitzer, that's another category, is given for potential achievement, although Obama's was a combination, because immediately by virtue of him being elected, he took America from being one of the worst perceived countries in the world to one of the top, by just being elected. Check all the polls, they verify that fact. Another thing, Rubin, Peres, Arafat and Kissinger all received Nobel prizes for what they were trying to do, research it if you want. So this is not unprecedented. If you know anything about economics you would then realize that it takes much more than eight months to have the kind of state that our economy is in. This is from the causal effects of the previous administration's policies and procedures. This man has not been in office long enough to have 10% unemployment. This is the fallout from everything that was going on before he was even a Senator, give me a break. And lastly the policies his administration is employing are starting to effect the economy in a positive way, the 3rd quarter GDP was around 3.5% positive, that means the economy is growing, with the implementation of the things they have done. His administration saved us from the brink of destruction, whether you and others realize it or not. No problem with being in a state of denial, but please just get the facts straight.
You take care and please be a little more diligent. You don't have to like the man or give him and his helpers credit, but he is working daggone hard to stabilize
the country's economic system, improve education, influence climate change, finish two wars and any number of other problems facing the US. The country was bankrupt prior to Mr. Bush leaving office, we are printing money without any gold backing.
We have been bankrupt for a long time, sorry can't lay that little gem at
Obama's doorstep. China has the mortgage on the White House with the debt owed from borrowing by the US, again most of it prior to Obama's oval occupancy. And he wanted to be president and help the country and the people. My, my, my. So party on. Cherrio!

...at least you didn't say anyone disagreeing with Pres. Obama's policies are rascistlol.. I'm of the strong belief that altho the media reported so differently, the economy was strong until the dems got the majority in both houses.. The war in Iraq perhaps could have been avoided, but many nation's intelligence believed he had those weapons of mass death (even his generals have said Hussein thought he had them! no one would want to tell him otherwise). I think the nations should band together and rid the world of extremist Islamic terrorism before it's too late, but the real war was/is against the conservatives, what's a few terrorists in comparison.
- With the press on his side, I believe Pres. Obama believes he will be able to accomplish all his backers want him to.

myLot reputation of 85/100. artistry (459)   ranked 2,097 out of 6,333 in politics  3 weeks ago

...Hi there, You have quite a bit in your comment, happy where do I start. First, I'm not into "blame it on color", in all cases. Obama is bi-racial,
so you would have to blame it on his white side as well as his black aside. Truth be told. Next, on that subject, racism cannot be practiced by individuals, society uses that word too freely, institutions which have power to deny an individual or a group something can only use racism, such as mortgage companies, banks, etc. People are prejudiced or bigoted. I believe Saddam Hussein had weapons, and moved them to Syria, there was a caravan of trucks spotted by satellite that no one ever reported where they were going, moving out of Iraq or what they were carrying. Even so, Saddam was a toothless tiger, and if we as a country had continued to contain him as we were doing, all these lives and treasure could have been saved. Bin Laden did what he wanted to, he lured the U. S into Iraq and we are bankrupt and no closer to getting him out of Pakistan which is now at war with the Taliban and will need our help in a short while, woe is us. Pakistan as you know has nuclear weapons. The Dems had two years of control, the polices and practices were already in place and shredding the underbelly of the economy which we have in the last 18 months or so seen the full blown results of. These things take time to develop, good or bad, we are coming out slowly and jobs will be the last signs of recovery. The DOW is trying to tell us that, looking at the future of the country. Ups and downs will occur. The Labor Department is not giving us the full unemployment picture, they never do, that is their reporting system. It is a sample of the total rate, we probably are somewhere around 14% unemployment. Those who have stopped looking for obs are not even counted. So you see where we are realistically.

I think I covered most of the things you mentioned. We are going to be in tough place for a while. Hopefully China won't call their loans or we will really be up a creek. I would really want Obama to bring the troops home from Afghanistan, and let them battle it out. The Taliban is in Pakistan now reportedly, let the Afhgans fight them, they want the money from the poppies, the drug lords give them for growing the poppies there. President Karzai's brother is involved with the drugs and who knows Mr. Karzai may have a few poppy fields of his own. I say let them work it out. How is this helping this country? Sorry to be so long. Take it easy.

UGH...man i hate to have to do this....but for now he gets a 3...because although he has lots of great plans...he has spent way too much time on frivolous things and he could be putting that time to better use..and he has made some questionable discussions lately and Im still waiting for the transparency myself....I want to be able to go on the website and see exactly what is being done and when ...isnt that what he told us he was going to do or did i misunderstand him?
believe it or not i think he tries to be too diplomatic....i am all for diplomacy and trying to find common ground with others...but at some point you have to be able to realize when the other side just aint gonna budge and forge ahead....He need to stop trying to coddle EVERYONE and trying to get everyone over to his side and make some darn decisions!
Im still rooting for him and i hope and pray he is who he told us he is but i have my reservations too!
