in another story about a hospital in mexico city stealing and selling babies an evangelical group came up who apparently had done something similar. mexico city is packed with evangelical churches and groups and no doubt some of them are helpful, however in this case several older children the group was looking after disappeared without a trace. have you come across stories of evangelical groups being up to decidedly dubious, if not sinister, activities?

Well sorry you read about this happening, Mexico City is the largest city in the world! Mexico it self is 98% Catholic! There are a few other minor groups! But I've heard about a group in Texas that the old guys like me marry girls who are 12 and 13 yrs. old! That's why I don't like Texans! Horrible people!

Yes, time and time again! The things that are done by religious people and/or institutions astonish me. It gives faith, God, and religion in general a bad rep.

Hi jb78000, This is terrible and is why we can no longer trust in religion. There was a time, not many years ago when I would not have believed such stories but not anymore. People can get away with almost anything if it's done in the name of religion. Churches and church leaders cannot be trusted, perhaps it was always the case but it is certainly true now. They will stop at nothing for power and money and the sad part is they have so much influence in government because most of them get elected by saying they are Christians. There are many good people in the churches who don't know what's going on and there are a few denominations that seem to be trying to bring about change. Let's stop giving churches special rights and start investigating what's happening behind the scenes. Blessings.

This is what called representing your religion by your acts and then everything gets stereotyped. Same is happening to Islam. I am Muslim by religion and unfortunately some Muslims who are terrorists are maligning the name of Islam and it is so sad. I know Bible doesn't teach you to steal babies. But people do crap using religions' name which should be stopped by force or by any mean. It's time for the Mexican authorities to stop that crime from happening.

religion is a handy excuse for all kinds of things. i've already said that i do not think in any way that all christians, or all evangelical christians, are like this but you might be right about it reflecting back on the religion they profess to have. the same goes for islam. i agree that the mexican authorities should be doing what they can to stop this kind of thing - those involved in caring for children should be checked out very carefully beforehand.

I haven't heard anything recently but I do know that a lot of people hide illegal activities behind church fronts. They think that because it is a religious front no one will questions them and for the most part they are right. It takes a brave person, in my opinion, to utilize a house of worship as a front for illegal activities. But, people have been doing it for centuries. I wonder how these people explain to God what they have done?

i doubt very much that god is at the top of their lists of interests. i'm sure some of these groups in mexico city are well-meaning and actually help in some ways but it is just too easy for less well-meaning types to use this as a handy cover. also some might start off with sort of good intentions but become corrupted.

hi jb blue bunny yes a few years back that odd ball offshot of the Seventh Day Adventist church with the leader Jones that had all those people drink cyanide
'water so they could go to heaven. there was a lot of stuff in the paper at
that time about them. also much later accounts of brain washing young people
fromn another oddball churchof Scientology, some of my friends had children who'had been sucked into that. they had to have a lot of counseling before
they got themselves straightened out too.
