church kidnapping children?

i doubt very much that god is at the top of their lists of interests. i'm sure some of these groups in mexico city are well-meaning and actually help in some ways but it is just too easy for less well-meaning types to use this as a handy cover. also some might start off with sort of good intentions but become corrupted.

thanks. i think you are safe because nobody else is going to reply to it (it is not in religion where the wolves would have been here 2 seconds after it was put up) anyway what you have said about cults is true - the leaders of them very often have fairly serious control issues of their own (money is involved sometimes too). it is hard to tell what was happened here - i tried to find the original story but all i could get was the reference in an article about something else.

Purplealabaster, I think you've hit the nail on the head here with your "radical religious groups" There is a danger of tarring all with the one brush, but some people will use any wagon to achieve their evil ends, and unfortunately the Church has been used by unscrupulous people to do so.

Rabbit, I think as the world seemingly becomes more out of control, people want to feel more in control of their own destinies and that is one of the things that these cult leaders offer them. It is a false sense of control, obviously, but some people will grasp at any straw, especially if it is wrapped in pretty covering, such as flowery words. I think that you are also correct that a lot of the leaders use money as a means to control the congregation once they are inside. The leader is given all the money and most worldly goods, and the congregation are left with no money and minimal belongings. It is very sad, and most people realize that they have been duped when it is too late, and they feel that there is no way out.

Cloudwatcher, I would never intentionally paint all religious people or even organized religion with the same brush. Unfortunately, though, you are right that some unscrupulous people will use any means necessary to achieve their evil, and blind faith is a very powerful tool.

there can be too much power involved with something that is supposed to be spiritual. and we know what can happen when people have too much power. also this is exploiting people's good faith something rotten.

Yes, and it has been going on for many years. We are just now hearing about alot of it and what is going on more indepth.

i know - but i don't think people who abuse religion for their own ends are genuinely religious in any way (they might think they are but i haven't seen anything condoning these kind of actions in any religious text)

i've heard of that one, and that cults in general can be very dangerous to the vulnerable. when i saw this i was thinking this could well be the reason these children vanished - new members for some manic cult.

erm, you get stuff like this in your country too mysterious. don't blame an entire people for the actions of some twisted evangelists. i'm not blaming all christians for it.

if they believe in hell i cannot understand why they would think that they are not going that way. anyway child trafficking like you describe is horrifying, as is disabling children to make money from them.
