I have been selling my crafts at pow wows with pretty good results but now that the pow wow season is over for now I am going to be going to crafts fairs and flea markets. Have you sold at either craft shows or flea markets and what were your results? What can you tell me to help me in these ventures? Are there any other avenues that I should be checking out. Since I am on accidental disability retirement, I do not want to leave any "paper trail" that will affect my pension, if I earn so much they will take a dollar for a dollar away from my pension.

I have sold at craft shows and they have usually been pretty good as far as sales go. I live near the ocean and sell sea glass jewelry, so people in the area are interested in my creations...and I try to do shows locally. While I haven't been at a show where the following has happened, I heard it sometimes can... at shows, people from the state have been known to show up and check for sales tax certificates. If you don't have one and haven't been keeping detailed receipts, you can be removed from the show for failure to collect & pay state sales tax. Like I mentioned, I have not attended a show where this has happened, but.... Good Luck with your sales!

I've sold at craft fairs. It works okay but it can take a long time for very little money.

I am not sure about the financial aspect of what you are doing because crafters have to pay sales taxes within their state. My sister pays quarterly. She has done art and craft shows although she has sold more online this year via Etsy.com. You should check out that site. There are a lot of artisans and crafters from around the world who sell there. You pay a listing fee like Ebay, but it is much cheaper than Ebay. My sister never had much luck with flea markets, but I guess it depends on your crowd and what type of craft you are selling. Good luck!

I really don't know about the money aspect that you are talking about here. However, I know that when I was younger, my mother, grandmother, and myself all went together and paid for booths at Craft Shows and we typically did pretty good. We all made different kinds of crafts so we always had a great variety at the shows. One thing that we did do to raise the traffic at our booth was to have a raffle of some sort during it. Often, it was buy a ticket for a dollar for a chance to win an afghan. Crochet was one of my mother's favorite destressors. I think we averaged about 100 dollars each during each one-day long craft show.
