Mexican Food |
|
I really do like mexican food but sometimes it doesn't like me. I went to a mexican restaurant today, as a matter of fact, but I just got some chips and a diet coke. It was just for a snack, in other words. Everytime I eat mexican food, my nose runs. I have a lot of allergies, anyway, but it seems like I've heard other people say their nose runs, too, whenever they eat mexican food. Why is this? Is it the spiciness of the food?

| 1. amusedexplorer (31) | 2 months ago | Well, I always enjoyed mexican food without any problem. My nose always remained dry:) May be this id due to the fact that I'm an Indian and used to spicy food. I think you've correctly guessed that it's the strong flavour of the spices that causes a runny nose.

sudiptacallingu (7278) | 2 months ago | I too think the same…we Indians are used to spicy food and mexican food does have a lot of spice in it. In one way, it is definitely healthy as all these spices have healing properties and affects our body in some beneficial way. I have also never faced any problem while having Mexican food

It's good that youall never have had any problems with it. I think it makes a difference if you've eaten it all your life, though. I have some Indian in me (American Indian, that is)but my nose still runs whenever I eat mexican food. I don't eat it all the time and I think it is the spiciness of the food that causes it, like you said. I still enjoy mexican food occasionally no matter what. Kathy.

3. lelin1123 (4678) | 2 months ago | For sure its the spiciness of the food. I love mexican food because I love spicy and hot foods. The hotter the better. You are not allergic its just the spicy foods will make your nose run because its clearing your nasal passage. It helps you from getting sick at least it does for me.

cyrus123 (1855) | 2 months ago | I thought it might be the spiciness but I wasn't sure. I don't like my mexican food too hot. I do have a lot of allergies, though. However, I've heard of other people complaining about their nose running whenever they eat mexican food. I wasn't aware that it was clearing my nasal passage, though. Thank you for responding. Kathy.

cyrus123 (1855) | 2 months ago | You gave a good answer, I think. This is all very interesting. I don't have any problem with my eyes tearing up when I eat mexican food. Like I said, though, my nose runs whenever I eat it but I think it smells good. I didn't know that picy hot food had capsaicin in it. You learn something all the time, though. Sometimes I have to take zantac before I eat mexican food to keep me from having heartburn. Other times, I don't have any problems if I don't take it. It's strange. Read what musicman6 has to say about it. He says that all mexican food has red chili powder on it. This was new to me, too. I don't like my mexican food spicy hot. Kathy.

7. musicman6 (1893) | 2 months ago | 10-4, the spice is what makes the nose run! Even the red chili powder that you hardly notice (which all mexican food has) will make your nose run! Especially if you have allergies, I have them also! But you gotta realize the more you try to eat it, you build up a tolerance to it, if you avoid it, the allergy gets worse!

cyrus123 (1855) | 2 months ago | Hi musicman6! I figured it might be the spices in the food but I wasn't sure. I wasn't aware that all mexican food had red chili powder in it. Like you said, you hardly notice it, though. I don't like my mexican food spicy hot so it must be very subtle. Sometimes I have to take Zantac before I eat it and sometimes I don't have any problem if I don't take it. It's strange. I still enjoy it, though. Thank you for responding. Kathy.

8. pergammano (2020) | 2 months ago | First let me say I am sorry you are plagued with allergies..I have obscure one's like Cedar trees! Simple, I avoid cedar. But for persons like you, with allergies, it must be trying!
Secondly, if it makes you feel any better, the same thing happens to me when I eat soup...why, I'll never know! It does NOT matter, the base, the spiciness, the veggies...my nose is like a faucet, turned on by soup. I am sure there is a medical explanation, so we just have to arm ourselves with a box of Kleenex..and enjoy!
By the way, love the picture on your avatar...reminds me of vacationing in Arizona and the area around Sedona! Have a great weekend & take care!

cyrus123 (1855) | 2 months ago | Hi pergammano! I don't think my allergies are as bad as they used to be. Fall is the worst time of year for them, though, even though I do enjoy the colors and the holidays. I'm sorry you are allergic to cedar trees. I think they smell so good! As far as I know, I don't have any cedar trees on my property. I guess it's hard for you to eat soup when you're sick even if you have such a rouh time with it. That's what I have when I don't feel like eating much. I figured it might be the spiciness of mexican food that makes our noses run but I wasn't sure. The picture on my avatar came with my computer when I first got it. I have been in Arizona three times in my life and it's one of my favorite states. However, the caption under the picture says it's the famous mesas of Utah. It does look a lot like Arizona, though, doesn't it? I have always liked the american west, anyway. I've never bee to Sedona but I've been to Flagstaff and seen the Grand Canyon three times. I have also been to Tucson and to Tombstone, Arizona. Thank you for responding. Kathy.

pergammano (2020) | 2 months ago | Kath...I have never been to Utah, but obviously it is beautiful, too, course all the world has beauty spots....but some of my fondest memories are from Arizona!
Hatley, it has been quite a few years since I have been to Sedona. Went there originally in the mid '70's, it was a quaint but effervescent little community...BUT I returned 25 years later...and it had been discovered by the RICH & FAMOUS and it was NO longer a Shangri-La! The wealthy from Phoenix, Scottsdale had all built summer homes in the mountains to escape the 130+ temps of the desert floor...and these ostentacious homes truly destroyed the quaintness!
The best Mexican food, I have ever eaten, was the authentic foods (not the Tex-Mex)varieties that we see so often in B.C., and I have eaten in California, Arizona..or the Tourest destinations in Mexico! When I was MUCH younger, I travelled two winters, with my camperized VW van, my German Shepherd Dog and parked on the beaches of Rosarita, Baja California..a quaint village, and volounteered with their local Ambulance...got to meet the residents, and often ate in their homes! Truly a delight, and very different food fromt the commercial foods we eat! Thanks for allowing me to walk down memory lane! Have a great weekend, you two! Cheers!

cyrus123 (1855) | 1 month ago | It might be the hot sauce. It might be a combination of both the hot sauce and the spiciness. Thank you for responding and have a great day/night. Kathy.
