CNN did a story about how Uncle Sam, our federal government, can take "gifts" that are tax deductable to pay off the national debt and if Americans are thinking about making donations this year to do it to the federal governement. What do you think about this idea? Will you be donating to the federal government this year? Heaven forbid they balance their budget, cutting the waste and fraud and come up with a plan to pay it down...oh no...instead of being responsible and doing their jobs they want US to give them a "gift". Accoriding the National debt clock website the national debt is almost 12 trillion. Which works out be almost 40,000 per person needed in donations to pay it off. Got that kind of money? What do you think of this idea? Information from the national debt clock" The Outstanding Public Debt as of 13 Nov 2009 at 02:43:39 PM GMT is: 11,997,335,314934.84 The estimated population of the United States is 307,279,534 so each citizen's share of this debt is $39,043.72. The National Debt has continued to increase an average of $3.85 billion per day since September 28, 2007!

LIL, I told people this back in 2003 when all of these people wanted to follow Bush into Iraq. I felt that if you supported putting our men and women in harms way, the least you can do is help pay for it with YOUR money instead of MINE. I don't recall one person doing this, and the response to my request didn't go over well with the right wingers. I hate to tell you this, but our country has been in debt most of it's life, and probably will for rest of all of our lives. Don't you all remember when Clinton balanced the budget, and worked our deficit down to the point where we almost had a surplus? How many of you thought this was great? I do find it funny how you kept the most important fact of our current deficit discussion: The National Debt has continued to increase an average of $3.85 billion per day since SEPTEMBER 28, 2007. So I guess that our huge deficit wasn't all Barack's fault.

It is not all Obama's fault. It is also Bush's. And all the member of the house and senate for the past 15-20years. There is plenty of blame to go around on this one.

I saw that story, too, and had a good laugh over it. No thanks Uncle Sam...I donate to charities that actually do some good for others. I'm not about to divert one thin dime to help bail out the government. And I definitely don't have an extra $40k I was thinking of giving away.

I don't have an extra 40k to throw around either. And if I did....Uncle Sam would not be getting it. I would give it to a REAL charity that would use the money wisely.

Wow I heard of some stupid ideas from CNN before but this is just moronic. I am sure you know my answer but any way I have no plans on given any money to the Federal government, they steal enough from me as it is. Let me explain another way, some one breaks into your house and steals everything, then you write them a check because you felt sorry for them.

I agree. It is just plain stupid to volunteerly GIVE money to the Federal Government. They already get enough and they are not very smart with what they already have.

yep and they got CNN doing their dirty work trying to convience the public to give the government a "gift". With the way they have behaved this year I think all they deserve is a lump of coal this holiday season in their stocking.
