if you could go back in time and never would be able to come back
would you go back in time and where would you go and why would you go there
and if you dont want to why not?

There are many periods that would fascinate me, but almost all of them have dangers and inconveniences that I would never want to live with.
So, with the no come-back element, I would choose to go back to 1960, where my familiarity with the time and the safety and convenience it provided, plus my hard-earned knowledge and maturity, would enable me to build a far better retirement than I now can in our overcrowded, violent, greedy world.

I didn't particularly like it, but I most certainly don't like now. And going back any earlier gets me away from modern medical care and, assuming I go back in the same space, going back to 1960 puts me in a time when my country was only peripherally involved in war (Vietnam). It was a far more innocent time and crime was still just an underbelly, not the face of the society; unemployment and inflation were minimal, so Australians could expect to live the dream of owning their own home and having a good life for them and their children. Today I feel intensely sad for my son having to grow up into what looks like being a dismal future.

Ok, call me crazy, but I have always thought I'd like to live in the mid 1800's. Granted it was a hard life, but no harder than living and working on the dairy farm I grew up on hahaha. Outside of the fact that medical stuff was more 'hit or miss' than now-a-days, it still was an exciting time in the history of our country. I think it would have been a real trip to go across the country on a wagon train and experience lands that only the primitive had ever known. I wouldn't have had a problem getting everywhere by horse, or by buggy (I've had horses my whole life, so that part is natural.) We also used to have old plows and a draft horse, so that part (while hard) is still do-able (as my Amish neighbors prove every day of their lives.) I don't know, but in a lot of ways life was a whole lot simpler back then. Neighbors knew their neighbors, and everybody helped each other to get by. They didn't live 'life in the fast lane', and appreciated a good ole sunset just for what it was. If I had to be stuck in a different area of time, I think I'd be happy there:)

I've always thought that era where Archie and Veronica, and Betty lived was so fascinating. Where life was simple. Where people in a small town just watch the high school game, and then go to local malt shop afterwards. Or drive to a burger house, and waitresses on roller skates bring out your order and set it up on your car window. Or drive to outdoor movies and cozy of with your partner.
Simple, no internet, no virtual world.

I'd never want to go back in time, if I couldn't return to the present. I rather like the present, for all its faults; plus, that's where my partner lives!
I suppose I'd quite like to return to Russia 100 years ago. It must have been such an interesting time to be alive - though achingly hard, and I'm under no illusions that I'd probably have fallen victim to the Okhrana, or to Stalin's purges!
