Are you dreading the winter? |
| |
| I don't know about you, but where we live we usually have lots of rain during the winter followed by snow...until last year. Last winter our snowfall was falling at an alarming rate. We literally couldn't keep up to it and were continuously shoveling our driveways. I also noticed that very few people were shoveling their driveways as much, and hence drivers kept using our driveway to turn around in. I am really dreading winter for fear that history might repeat itself and we might again receive that much snow. Seriously, it was so extreme that we kept getting stuck trying to get out of our neighborhood, couldn't go to work, and it was just really unsafe to drive. We easily had over 4 feet of snow. Plus living here in Vancouver, we are notorious for having the worst drivers in Canada. So, how do you feel about winter? | | | | | |

| | Now that I live in the south I am not dreading winter. Winter is a nice time of the year in the south. Very mild not cold no snow to shovel. | | | | | | |

| | Oh you lucky you!! To live in a place where there's no snow or cold weather to face? That would be a dream! Well, I've told my husband that when we do retire, which won't be for years down the road, I'd like us to move to someplace a bit warm. | | | |

| | Cream do you live in the southern US? Oh you're so lucky to live someplace warm with mild winter weather. I'd really enjoy that and especially not to shovel driveways, or fear of being stuck somewhere driving in the snow. Nice that you had a long summer too. Trust me if you spent a winter here or anywhere cold for that matter, you'd really be grateful for where you live. Thank you and you take care too! :) | | | |

| | I live in Florida, so the winters here are pretty mild compared to other places. It is the Summer that I dread the most. However, this past summer was pretty mild too compared to a few Summers we have had recently. I don't mind the colder weather, especially since I work outside a lot. I don't want to see it get colder than about 55 during the day though. That makes being outside here a little rough to deal with. I like this time of year though, because the days usually stay about 55-65 degrees. It is usually really nice outside unless the wind is blowing. | | | | | | |

| | Oh then you must have the ideal winter weather, you lucky you!! I would love to live in that kind of climate, not have to worry about snow, crazy drivers and being stuck somewhere in the snow. I can imagine though that you must experience quite the heat wave in the summer? Well, I remember last year we had a heatwave for us, for about a month and everyone was complaining, complaining, complaining. I don't mind the heat at all as I've been in 110 F and hotter. | | | |

| | Am glad we don;t have winter here in the Philippines. We've never experience having a hard time with snow or cold because we always have 80 and above temperature whole year round except if there is typhoon coming then we will have low pressure area and then rain. But we never experience being cold, wearing thick coats and everything like that. No shoveling of snow in our driveway. But I love to see snow falling and a ground full of snow, just a thought of it. | | | | | | |

| | No I guess you wouldn't have snow in the Philippines. Well you're very fortunate that you live somewhere where there is no snow. Although I don't know if I'd like to live somewhere and have to worry about possible typhoons? That sounds like of scary. Yes it is pretty to look at (snow) if you don't have to drive anywhere and can just appreciate it falling from the comfort of your own home. | | | |

| | No way. I love the winters. Aside from the driving issues I enjoy almost everything about winters. I am from Michigan, so we have long and snowy winters, as well. I am still walking around in a t-shirt. Can you believe it? I don't know what's wrong with me. I love the whole winter atmosphere, especially during Christmas time. I build snowmen, have snowball fights, go skiing, etc.....I guess I'm just a kid at heart. I actually feel sorry for those who never get to experience snow. I am willing to sacrifice plowing the driveway and scraping ice off my car for a chance to partake in all the wonderful winter activities. | | | | | | |

| | That's cute because you are a kid at heart. :) You know I do also really enjoy that festive winter atmosphere, but only if I don't have to drive in that horrid snow, or get snowbound somewhere. Plus like I mentioned here in Vancouver, we have probably the worst drivers in Canada, they're terrible really...Oh yes I know that the east coast of the US can have some pretty brutal winters. You're really lucky that you can walk around with really light clothing right now. Well enjoy the winter! :) | | | |

| | At this current time I live in Baltimore Maryland. The winter here is pretty mild compared to what some other places get. Including those that are pretty close to us. It can get frigid cold here but we barely get any snow. We're lucky if we get to see one flurry after christmas. But out winters have been getting milder and milder. I don't really mind winter because when it gets cold in the house and instead of turning on the hear we use our wood burning fireplace to warm the house. My husband will start it and about an hour after we put in a color stick. It really cleans the chimney but the color show is wonderful. My daughter loves these sticks. You'd think she was five and not nineteen. | | | | | | |

| | You're very fortunate too that you're having milder winters. It's really strange but we also used to have mild winters, and now it's been changing to brutal cold winters. Yes my parents also have one of those wood burning fireplaces as well which keeps the house really cozy. We just have one of those gas fireplaces which is nice too but not the same. You know I've never heard of using those color sticks in the chimney? | | | |

| | I live in the southern United States.. whoever says it's not cold in the winter must live quite a bit farther south than me. I am in north carolina currently and let me tell you.. ten degree weather is cold enough for me. I know a lot of people exclaim.. ten degrees! It gets minus whatever where I live.. Well. I don't care.. if it gets cold enough to freeze it gets cold enough for me! This isn't me whining.. this is me complaining about having to replace my water pump every year or two even with insulation and heat lamps. That's what I dread about winter.. having to spend a week or six at a time welling water up to cook or take a bath. Sure some people would kill to have their water source right outside their house for easy welling.. but those people don't live in countries were you get used to having water flow right into your house either. | | | | | | |

| | Oh you definitely have every reason to complain. And no you're not whining at all, just stating I fact. I don't think anyone would enjoy having to lug around well water for their baths, too tedious really, or having to replace their water pump every year. You must get quite a snowfall too I would imagine? The scary part about winter I always say is the increased amount of vehicle accidents. Too many people are careless on the road or are just not accustomed to driving in snowy/icy conditions, hence the increase in automobile accidents. That's what I hate about winter the most. | | | |

| | Living in South Carolina (Charleston) for 8yrs I can attest it gets COLD !!! cold fronts and the ocean (due to humidity) give cold a whole new meaning.. It may be 30 degrees which is warm to the northern states but Im here to tell you 30 degrees in the south is a northern 10 degrees so when its 10 it feels like 0 and if there is any wind coming off the ocean on a cloudy damp day forget it you think its minus.... | | | |

| | I can just imagine how cold it must get in South Carolina. I think it's probably more of a dry cold? I was in NY last year and I found the cold freezing weather completely unbearable, with that Arctic chill and there wasn't even snow on the ground, for heaven's sake! Well, I know here in Vancouver it gets to about -10 celsius not sure what that is in Fahrenheit, but I will say that we don't have that brutal, icy, wind that many places have. | | | |

| | Oh I can guarantee you that it isn't always a dry cold. It's normally very humid here in my part of North Carolina all year round. When it gets down to '30' the wind chill makes it at least ten degrees some days. A lot of people think Georgia is warm in the winter too.. no.. no.. I was stationed at Fort Benning. I froze my short-shorts wearing early morning PT'ing butt off. Our legs would start to turn blue sometimes before they'd let us put on PT pants. While it's not as deathly cold as the farther northern states, it is bad enough. To make it worse we don't get as much snow.. all of our humidity here and parts south of us tend to cause us to get ICE storms and freezing rain instead. I'd take a few feet of snow over a quarter inch of ice anyday. Snow doesn't crack tree limbs, break power lines, and make me slide off the side of the road into a ditch. That tiny sheet of ice DOES. | | | |

| | Ah I see, so you like it fairly mild out, not too hot or too cold. I see that you're from Texas. Well, you're very lucky not to get snow very often. I would trade your mild weather in a heartbeat if I could!! Anything to get out of our miserable, snowy, rainy, stormy weather. | | | |

| | I am not looking forward to snow at all!!! ... I had moved to South Carolina where I stayed for 8yrs. If they saw a snow flake the whole city got shut down because they just are not prepared to handle that type of weather. I recently have moved back to Ohio (lake effect snow) where last yr they started getting snow prior to halloween. So far so good this yr no snow YET . Now my son who is 15 is excited about snow he wants to go sledding, make a snowman and all the fun winter things, but he doesn't have to drive in it. I don't think it matters where you live anymore drivers a terrible everywhere. They are all in their own little worlds not paying attention to their surroundings. I just pray that when it does start its a short season LOL not the usual 6 months from November to May. Time will tell. | | | | | | |

| | You know Vancouver sounds a lot like that. As soon as someone sees a flake, everything shuts down because they're also not prepared for the snow. Very few people have snow tires, there is a lack of those snow blowers on the roads, etc. There are also too many new or inexperienced drivers on the roads too that can't handle driving in the snow. Well, hopefully you might by lucky and not get any snow this year. Ha! We should be so lucky over here...I'm hoping that we might also have minimal snow this year not 4-5 ft of it like we had last year and EVERYTHING shut down. True it makes a big difference if you have to actually drive in the snow, I find it quite scary. | | | |
