Call me naive...

I know, I know, silly me to not think of certain things... I recently moved from near Baltimore, MD to Martinsburg, WV. Some things I never even thought about prior to moving was that it was going to be a MUCH slower pace. Moving from a much larger metropolitan area to a city that I barely consider a city is a big change. Not only does it seem the norm to drive 5-15 miles BELOW the speed limit here (as opposed to 20 miles above the speed limit in MD), but there is also not really many great places to hang out in terms of nightlife. Also, I see TONS and TONS of roadkill. I didn't see that coming. However, on the plus side, there are beautiful mountain views, wonderful sunrises and sunsets, fresh air, less crime, etc... And, the first month I was here I saw two different rainbows within 2 weeks of each other. The stars are so big and bright in the sky, as is the moon... Beauty everywhere I look. (Expect the roadkill, that is!)

Honey, you are in the country now! it must be a little of culture shock. It will take some time. I hope you get used to your new home and surroundings real soon.

Kind of the same thing with us moving from Los Angeles to Sacramento. It's not totally slow paced here, but not quite as many things do do, and definitely lots of roadkill, mostly skunks.

I think that's wonderful that you were willing to leave the fast life behind to enjoy the more peaceful way. Enjoy what you see, and appreciate it, because those of us who don't get to see the views as you do are envious. lol If you have family left in MD, at least you can go back and visit every so often, but I would almost bet that once you have lived in WV long enough, you will be glad to get back to that peaceful way of life when your visit is over.

Maybe those animals were caught looking at the beatiful sceneries, and even the rainbows you saw, that's why they ended up as roadkill! Here's hoping that your move and your change has improved your disposition in life. In terms of slow and relax pace as compared to the constant rat race.

I am not a city dweller. The country life has been my way of life since day one. But, I wasn't always enjoying my surroundings. There have been times when I loathed the changing seasons and dreaded the fall foliage and snow. Now I turn myself into a tourist and enjoy what Mother Nature has on display for all to see. Roadkill isn't appreciated unless you are a member of the one of the Beverly Hillbillies.

I guess I've forgotten what it is like to go a week without seeing any roadkill.

Nah, you're not naive. We move a lot so when we get settled in we go looking for familiars to make it feel like home, for at least the three months we are there. I guess you could write an article about what to expect when you move and how to adapt once you figure out your surroundings.

ok one reason i am respone to this, you are the first i came across that used to live maryland too. im down in southern md. but yeah i know balitmore well and it is so different in wv then there or here. when i first met my wife and went to upstate ny in the country it was like wow much slower here and strangers speaks to you by say good morning, afternoon, just way nicer. unreal. yeah we thought about moving to upstate and even have friends near you that tell me we need to move out there much nicer, less crimes, ect. to country for this city boy for sure. specaily me growing up outside of dc in pg county. but enjoy it out there, much better as well safer then balitmore for sure. enjoy yourself.
