Do you use a dog flap or would you never buy one?

I have three dogs.I would never buy a dog flap as i would be too scared that people could break into my house as they are very big and a person could crawl through one.I do have a cat flap for the cats as that do not worry me,but i would never have a dog flap.

I have two dogs, but I still don't think that I would have a doggie door in my house. There are actually a couple of reasons for this. The first one is that one of our dogs is large so a doggie door that would be big enough for her would easily be big enough for a person to get through. (In fact, I have a cousin that was once locked out of her house and only got in by using the doggie door). The other reason that I wouldn't have one is because we live in an area where the temperature varies greatly throughout the year so having a doggie door would allow the outside air into the house and would thus increase or temperature control costs.

Hi Jugs. No won't ever put in a dog flap until the yard is fenced in cause the dog would run in the road. Not worried about robbers breaking in if they want in your home they will find another way to get in. Robbers are pretty resourceful they want in bad enough they will find a way in. Can't trust the dog to stay in the yard.

Interesting that you bring this up now. I dont have a dog flap, but will be getting one soon (see my cat flap reply to you). My ex husband took his dalmation with him, so now I only have the little mini fox terrier. This means my two cats can go out the back again. They never did when we had the dalmation as they were scared of him. Now this means I need to cat flap. As our dog is very small, she will be able to get through it.

You are right about the big dog flap because once we had a neighbor whose neighbor kid did crawl in through their dog flap. Actually, she caught him half-way through and chased him out with a stick! He crawled in head first, but went out the other way.

Hi Jugjugs, I have been considering a cat flap but never would get a dog flap as our dogs are big. For the same reasons as you I would not get one, a dog flap would be big enough for someone to break into your house.

We had a dog when I was a kid, and we did not have a dog flap. We just let her outside on a leash when she wanted to do her business, and she'd scratch lightly at the door, when she wanted to come in again. She never scratched the door in a noticeable way, just enough to make a noise, so we'd hear her, and let her back inside.
