Do You Wear a Mask?

Do you know the feeling of being stuck in a particular role within your family? Does it feel sometimes as if you are wearing a mask whenever you see the people you love. Maybe you are the good daughters, expected to always please others, or perhaps the family clowns, expected to make everyone laugh. This same scenario can play out within a work situation or a group of friends. We may be so good at our role that we hardly even notice that we are doing this, yet, deep down, we know that we are not free to simply be who we really are. Do you experience this and how do you deal with it? Is it healthy? Would you like to just be yourself for a change?

Pose123, this is a very realistic situation and I am sure all of us are going through it in some form or other. I feel I am wearing a mask when it comes to dealing with certain situations. Normally it is when I have to face a situation where I have to be extremely careful of what I say or do with certain people who are are hypersensitive. I wish I could be more open in what I say or do where these people or situations are concerned because I hate wearing a mask as it is not me....

H shobhan, Thanks for commenting and you're right, we can't be ourselves while wearing a mask. Blessings.

Well, sometimes since I'm a good problem solver, everybody in the family wants me to fix their errors since according to them things are not done well unless I'm the one who takes care of it. Sometimes this big responsibility can become overwhelming.

I began to be myself in my 20's when I decided to give up the religion I was born into. Since then I've not regressed and seldom wear your aforementioned mask. I enjoy being myself and am happiest when playing the family clown. I often assume a role, but its actually myself that I am playing. Making people laugh is one of my most enjoyable things, and at that time I am who I really am.

When I pass by your topic you made me smile because I am the type of person who is wearing mask. My mom don't even knew it if I have a problem because I am good at it. I'd rather share my problems with my bestfriend cousin than sharing it with my family I don't want to add more burden to their heart I will find way in solving my problem on my own. I am fond of wearing mask for people see me as a very lively, bubbly person but when its sharing time they are just shock to wonder how did I handle it without even seeing it in my eyes. Life is tough for its worth fighting for on the good side life is beautiful.
