Have you noticed that some mylot discussions are removed?

If your discussion is removed do you do a research and find out your mistake so that you will not repeat it again? I am sure most of us have not clearly read the mylot discussion posting guidelines. How about you? Are you aware of the rules and guidelines of mylot discussion posting?

I have read the myLot guidelines several times now. When one of my discussions got deleted, I read the guidelines again, but I actually did not find that I broken any rules. The only possible one was that I may have accidentally made a repeated discussion. . .

Merlinsorca, that is the problem with the searches - they might not always turn up the correct results, especially when people can change the tags on your discussions. Using both the search and similar discussions column helps, but that is not fool-proof, either. If you do both, though, then you have a pretty good idea of whether or not it would be a similar/duplicate discussion and can proceed accordingly. The fact that only one of your discussions has been deleted, however, would suggest that you are doing a pretty good job already. When people change the tags on discussions, sometimes they change them to meaningless things. That really messes up the system, because the tags are used when searching for discussions, so changing them to meaningless stuff creates a big problem. When we see that tags on our discussions (or even other people's discussions) have been changed to this sort of thing, then we can report the tag as inappropriate for the discussion, and myLot Admins will delete it. That will not only help out when searching for similar/duplicate discussions but also when users are trying to find discussions to respond to related to a particular interest, which might draw more attention and responses to our discussions.

Merlinsorca, if you are unsure of whether or not a discussion might be a repeat topic, then before you start the discussion you could use the search bar at the top of the page to enter key words. That will return results for the key words of your discussion, and you can go through the discussions that have the same key words as yours to see whether or not yours would be a repeat discussion. Also, when you are in one of these discussions, you can look on the right-hand side of the screen, and you will see "similar discussions" where more discussions similar to the one you are searching will appear.

Well, I have used the search bar but I must be using the wrong keywords because I couldn't find any similar discussions to the one that was deleted. I haven't checked the similar discussions, though, so it may have been there. . .

I am pretty convinced 95% of the new users that come in here never read, or are evenaware of, the discusion guidelines. they post a few threads that violate them and then posts discusion complaining their discision was deleted...which of course also gets deleted because it also violates the guidelines. I have also seen people repeatedly repost a discusion that gets deleted, this usaly results in a canceled account and the user comming back in a new account complaining because he was banned. It's a vicious cycle. I couldn't begin to imagine the patience it muyst take to be a moderator here, lol, I would probably just end up banning everyone. I wish mylot would set as a condition of being a member, a complete read of the guidelines and FAQ's and then a quick quiz on it that muct be passed before you can even start posting.

I have read them all, but forgot like 30% of them. When I get my discussions removed I mostly always know why yet I don't always agree with the reason. I try to help someone, by posting my blog and gone it is... that kind of things, sometimes very annoying but it's the way it is. ;)

It once again shatters my hope of any kind of positive development here in mylot. I just find it more boring by the day, but I can't leave. I think mypot makes us high.

I try to be aware of the rules, and if I see people that are violating the rules, especially newer users, then I try to let them know why I think their discussion is likely to be deleted. I do not - nor does any other user - have the power to have discussions deleted. That is the exclusive right of myLot admins. The only thing that users can do is to report discussions or responses that we think are violations, but myLot does not necessarily delete them just because a user might think they are violations. All that reporting does is make myLot aware that there may be a violation, so that they can be reviewed. Then, myLot admins will determine whether or not they really are violations. In fact, I do not think that every discussion that gets deleted has been reported by a user on the site (although I am sure that some are), because myLot states that they do monitor the site and will remove anything that they feel violates the TOS. However, when you see numerous posts being deleted on a regular basis, as a user you start to get a pretty good idea of what will and will not be staying.

hi vijaynaths... i've gone through the guidelines and FAQs once or twice... now i'm somewhat aware of the dos and don'ts... couple of my discussions (may be 3/4) have so far been removed... i could later relate why two or three of those probably got removed... but, for rest, i couldn't find any reason...

I don't really know why your discussions were deleted, but if there were not obvious violations of the guidelines, then I think they were probably similar/duplicate discussions, which are also against the guidelines. I can't say for sure, of course, but that seems like it might be the case. Five posters starting discussions about your favorite pizza topping will have their discussions deleted, even if they do not have the exact same wording, because the discussions are all similar/duplicate discussions, unless one of the posters puts a different and unique spin on the topic. If you search for key words for a discussion topic before you start the discussion, then you can see whether or not the same or a similar discussion has already been done. If it has, then you can either decide to take a new and different slant on the existing topic in your own discussion or you can respond to the existing discussion by the original poster. This might help you avoid having more of your discussions deleted.

Here is a link to the discussion guidelines of myLot, so you can read them and become aware of them in order to avoid these types of mistakes. http://www.mylot.com/o/guidelines.aspx Here is a link to the TOS (terms of service) of myLot, which you had to agree to before you joined and were able to post any discussions or comments. http://www.mylot.com/o/terms.aspx

Alright, those did not come through as links, so let me try this again. Here are the guidelines http://www.mylot.com/o/guidelines.aspx for the discussions on myLot. Here are the TOS (terms of service) http://www.mylot.com/o/terms.aspx which you agreed to abide by before you became a member and were able to start discussions or post comments to discussions.

I am sure that everyone no matter who they are has had a discussion removed a time or two here, and sometimes it might be just for something someone else might have once posted back in here as well. It can be frustrating when it happens as it does tend to effect your earnings some, but it is also a learning process as well. What the newer person in here needs to do is take things with stride, learn to read the Rules and FAQS and when in doubt, ask lots of questions as well. In time they will learn, and come to Love it here like many of the rest of us have as well.

your discussions were removed because you made two of the same thing word for word. mylot admins always deleted a duplication.

I believe they get removed because someone marks them negative. having too many negatives will result in removal. Also it could be due to not a clearly stated question. Or just haters.

no, moderators here have to go through a very tedious process of looking at each and every discusion that gets reported they also have no way of knowing who rates a discusion or how.

Hello Vijay. I think we all inadvertantly break the occasional mylot rule, especially when we're new here or if we tend to be of a contentious nature. I do indeed try my best to follow the guidelines, though. One discussion I began in my early days here was removed almost immediately, as it was too much like another discussion already begun. Karen

Hello vijayanth I know the rules and follow them strictly. I think we should not post any discussions like, avatar, password and earning related posts. Immediately they are deleting it. Sometime back I have started one discussion like what inspired you to select this avatar but it was deleted. OK. While registering, we accept their rules and regulations and so we must obey them and follow them. Right?

Its pretty common for the new ones to stumble upon and then start learning from their previous mistakes but i am sure that no one is going to investigate the reason behind there discussion being deleted. They keep on going but if this the same happens with them then they would be careful the next time before starting a new one.gud day.

I had one discussion removed during my 1st week of stay here. It was about the star. I make sure I read the guidelines before I start a discussion but I guess I wasn't able to focus on the second to the last bullet of dont's. When it was deleted, I reviewed the guidelines to make sure it wont happen again. Good thing that I have learned from it.

Some discussions are very obviously violations and the user knows that he or she is breaking the rules when that person starts the discussion, such as the users that copy and paste (plagiarize) other people's work off this or other Internet sites. These people are the most serious offenders, in my opinion. Other people make mistakes, especially newer users, such as the one that you describe here, but more experienced users can also make mistakes, because we are all human. The important thing is that you learned from your mistake, so that you will not make that same mistake again.

Yeah, I agree with jugs jugs, but yes, some of my discussions have been removed for no reason at all, and I think that it is because they believe that there are already the many of the same questions here on mylot and that is why they removed them. I really don't know why though, and I believe that if a discussion gets old, then it should be right to bring that discussion back to life again. What do you all think?
• United States

First, the guidelines state that we should not "Post similar or identical postings. Stealing posts from other users or posting the same thing over and over again will not help your myLot earnings. Multiple identical postings, even if legitimate, may be considered spam." Therefore, if you start that type of discussion, then everybody (including yourself) loses time, posts, and money when the discussion gets deleted. However, if you want to bring an older discussion back to life, then you could go and respond to the existing discussion. If you are the original poster, then it might draw more comments for you to respond to. If you are not, then you can comment to others on that discussion as well as responding to the discussion yourself, which will hopefully get a good dialog going. The original poster will probably be glad that there is interest in an older discussion, and you will be able to talk about a topic that interests you, so everybody benefits.
