Are you directionally challenged?

So today as hubby and I were talking about the gps and what the display shows, I was thinking about the fact that I am directionally challenged. I love my gps, it has prevented many a 'I'm LOST' moments since he got it for me last year. I really like how it talks to you and says 'turn right at (name of street)' or 'exit at Tuscany Lane and turn left at the light'. The display also shows you how far to go BEFORE the turn and what the next cross street(s) will be etc. I think of how I used to call and get directions somewhere and some guy will say 'go about 3/4 of a mile east on Main and then head south on Cobble'. Hmmmm... okay. I'm a woman and I think you need to say 'turn right onto Main and go 3 blocks, then turn left onto Cobble. How do you tend to give/understand directions? Do you think it's gender related? LOL!

I don't do the east, west, north, south directions either. However, thankfully I've lived in the same city for the majority of my life and usually don't have a big problem with getting lost either. Unless my husband and I were to decide to move away from Lexington or unless we were to start doing a lot of travelling, I can't justify the price of buying a GPS because most of the places that we go are the places that we've gone for years. Yes, occasionally I do go to a friends house whose home I've never been to before but in those circumstances, I mapquest before I head to their house.

I have a bit of trouble with right and left unless I'm driving, but almost never with north south east and west. Only time that's a problem is if I get turned around, like if I fly into a town at night or if I'm coming out of an underground garage from a different side than I went into (at night). Otherwise, I rarely have any problem with direction. I'm not sure it's gender related. My husband, his sister, his mom are all directionally challenged and none of my brothers are.

I have a gps. He's my son. LOL Seriously, he's got perfect direction. He's like a frigging map. He can get you there even if he's never been there.

I tend to just want the address and then find a map. Then I will check the side streets for two blocks ahead. And be sure I am in the right lane. When I give directions How ever. I tend to say...Go down this road, 3 blocks its on the right. Or turn south onto this street. Cheers.

no absolutely not. It is not gender related. Gps is good to use. It is a very good gadget for finding direction. It also comes inbuilt in mobile phones. But the mobile operators charge for the service.

Hi mommyboo,I never face any difficulties while travelling in new places but its always good to use an GPS which would direct you so that we dont have to enter an Illegal zone .I am very good at telling the directions and its does vary for genders if its a beautiful girl asking for help then i wouldn't mine dropping at the exact location if it were a man i would just dscribe the route.gud day.

I am directionally challenged, and I hate it. But, I got myself a Garmin because I got sick of trying to get directions from people who assumed I knew what the heck they were talking about when giving me directions. We travel a lot so when we need to find a gas station, bathroom or just a place to chow down I'll use my GPS. It saves me time and a whole lot of headaches. I think women have better built in GPS (Girl Positioning System)than a man because I will never again ask for directions!

I am no good in directions. For me East is West and North is South. I need someone with me whenever I am in a new place or for that matter a place I have been to several times. That is one reason why I cannot go on holidays alone and opt for package tours. Some reason this. Anway!!!
