She had operations on both eyes for cateracts. One eye was better for Thanksgiving and now the other one is well for Christmas. She had given me all her books because she couldn't see to read any more. So now I'm going to give some of them back for Christmas.
This is only temporary. She has glaucoma starting. So she will again loose her sight. But for now, she can see about 30-30, it isn't 20-20, but she can make most things out again. When you consider that she had to put her hand on my arm and had to have assistance everywhere she went except her house, this is wonderful!
Besides, you never know, they may find a way to cure glaucoma before she becomes blind again.
I wish everyone great gifts of love and peace this holiday season.

That must a real bummer for her. To know she is getting her sight back but not for good. To know you will lose your sight would be very hard to take. I would want to take in as much as I can for as long a time as I am able to. I hope they do find something to help her before she loses her sight permanently.

True, I think she has a few years. In that time, I hope she's able to see many, many things. You never know, they might find something that will help her. It reminds us to all be happy for the senses that we have that work. My husband can't smell, and let me tell you, that's a problem, too.

Yeah, my Father couldn't smell. Worked well for him, he emptied septic tanks for a living (last job, his own business that he had). Now my husband can't smell. There are actually more people who can't smell than we know about. Had to get rid of all the gas appliances (heater and water heater) because my husband came home and turned on lights one night, I walked in and the gas smell made me noiseous. Wonder he didn't create a spark and explode the place. My Dad's lack of smell is why I grew up with all electric and now my Husband can't smell, so all electric except for the wood stove, again.

That is something to be thankful for. Can't smell? I think we take them all for granted until we don't have them.

This is great news. Am so happy for your brother's girlfriend. I agree, maybe in time research will find a cure for glaucoma. Love to hear a good story and this was one of them. Hopefully she can enjoy the holidays this year to the fullest.

She's going for it!
She and my brother went down south for a week. I asked her what sights she enjoyed the most. She said, strangely enough, during the drive that the digital changing message boards were cool. Different pictures and messages kept changing. She had never seen them before. But most of all, to actually SEE her relatives kids, esp. the adopted ones that came up here, but she couldn't see them. So for the first time, she could actually see the newest members of her family. So the trip was like an early Christmas for her.

How wonderful for her. I hope she takes good care of her health so that perhaps the glaucoma process will be slowed somewhat.

The Drs. gave her drops to take everyday and she's watching her diet and eating better, so I think she's trying. Hope it works out for her like that, has her sight for the rest of her life.

I had this surgery done, one in January and one in July of this year, it is so good to be able to see again, my problem was at night I couldn't drive with the lights hitting me in the face. Sometimes I would litterly have to stop in the road, I am sorry to hear she has glaucoma setting in. Yes we hope that before long they will find a cure for it. It is amazing how things change when you have the surgery, I tell everyone stop suffering with cateracts and go have the surgery, there is nothing to it. Tell her I wish her all the best and don't give up. Reading was almost a no no for me and I love to read, seeing up close is still a problem for me, but at least I can drive at night now. And thank you for the gift of love and peace this holiday season the same goes here to all on MYLOT.

I'm glad you can see again. It's wonderful!
The halogen headlights bother me and I don't have cateracts or glaucoma. I used to work nights and someone told us about these yellow lense glasses, like sunglasses only with yellow instead of brown lenses. They work great! Esp. when someone forgets their brights on.
Isn't it wonderful to live in a time period when Doctors can restore sight? It's sooo amazing. Take care and enjoy your sight.

Hi, edge!
How wonderful! It's as if there were a Christmas miracle waiting for her! I'm sure she treasures ever sight she sees and every word she reads, even if it is only temporary!
