Awkward? Work in customer service!

The one thing that I actually LOVE about customer service is that it teaches you how to small talk with people. 2 1/2 years ago, when I started my job, I was pretty anti-social and found myself in situations where there would be awkward silences and where I didn't know what to say. Now I find myself more comfortable around strangers, and able to stir up a friendly discussion (with ease) about practically everything. I like it.
Did you find that the same thing happened to you when you started a job in customer service? Or, a more open-ended question: what are some of the positive aspects of your job? What has your job taught you that you can carry on throughout your life, even if you quit your job tomorrow?

Oh it must be an art how to small talk to customers! And still make it look sincere on whatever discussions you have. I would like to learn that!
I don't work in customer service, but I go to different companies and audit them. It is not really small talk, rather than just asking them direct questions. And for them to provide me with what I need. But there are a lot of awkward moments in between, so I still have to master small talk.
Have yourself a nice day now.

maezee i have just started a technical support job and this is my first ever job so pretty much excited about it......
i have learned a lot during the training period and think that this is going to change my life ...
i am basically a very quite guy not much of a talkative one. so i found myself left out many a times on many discussions with my frnds.
i think that once i get settled good for this job i wont be having any problem starting or continuing any conversation further...

I know that my job has helped me be able to interact with all sorts of people. Just doing myLot gets my mind working. I write and also work with forums, so there is a lot of communication going on. I'm not naturally much of a talker, but my job has helped me to do better.
