| What's the difference between a consignment shop & thrift store?  | | | |  Is there any difference, really, except that consignment shops clothes are generally more upscale and definitely more expensive? What are the actual differences between these two places? And which do you prefer to shop at?
I'd definitely rather go to the thrift store. You can easily find so many brand names but at WAY better prices than at consignment shops.
Do you ever shop at consignment clothing stores. If so, what's your opinion on them?

| |  I love all those type of stores, they're so much fun to browse around in. Sometimes I find things to sell on Ebay, well not lately, I've been out of work.
The difference is a consignment shop is where you can take your own clothing, collectibles, jewelry, etc., and for a fee, they will sell it for you.
A thrift store just usually gets donations.

| |  Ditto, Kashmeresmycat; just want to add that consignment shops are generally a lot more expensive but still can be a terrific deal. Thrift stores are generally less expensive but vary greatly depending on establishment when it comes to the best bargains.

| |  For the shopper the only difference is that the items may be a bit more expensive but they may also be of better quality then at the thrift stores. The main difference is that people donate things to the thrift shop, and at consignment stores people bring things in, in hopes of the items selling and the consignment store pays them part of the money for the sale. I have shopped at consignment stores in the past and you can get some really nice things there, but sometimes I find them a bit pricey for used items.

| |  at a thrift store the stuff is usually donated to it so the profits that the thrift store makes is free and clear. while a consignment shop's merchandise is brought in by people who are selling their stuff and get a percentage of the cash.
