Charging me

When I bought my first computer I purchased webroot software and now that I have this computer I don't need the old software so I never gave it any thought. Since my husband and I split I have worked hard at budgeting so I could get the credit card debit cleared up. I went on line to pay my credit card off as I was all excited all I owe is 13.10 so I'm all happy until I bring up my account and suddenly I owe almost 46.00. Why? Well because Webroot made an annual payment for something I don't use or asked for. Ask me if I'm impressed, Not So Much.
I won't let this go until I get to the bottom of it and a refund.
Has anyone else gone through this? If so What did you do? Did you get a refund?
Thank You in advance for your responses and advice, I need it. Thanks.

When you first got Webroot there must have been a box checked for automatic renewal. Webroot can be really difficult to get refunds from. I have been trying for 6 months to get $30.00 back for a firewall which didn't work, was charged twice and then it became a free purchase. I finally got $15.00 back but am still fighting for the second $15.00 refund.

I honestly don't remember but I just can't see me agreeing to this, but you may be very well right maybe there was a box that had been checked and I overlooked it. I'm not happy to learn that these people are hard to deal with. I am trying really hard to get these charges reversed because I'm not using the product. I did finally get a number to call and the girl said she would take care of it, so now whether she does or not I don't know but I was impressed to get anyone on a Saturday. Toll free # as well. Good luck to you and thank you for your response. I found this girl very easy to talk to good luck. 1-866-612-4268

I did talk to Visa but I wasn't impressed. I finally got a hold of the bank manager and I think he's going to settle this.

Thank You for your response. Visa has made some changes, I know your advice is the way it used to be, but they looked up my account from years back and I had used webroot before about 6 years ago, therefore they wouldn't take the charges off but they gave me a phone number to call which I did and they said they would credit my card, so hopefully they will. What they did was automatically charged my account.

Yes i have..Anytime you give out your debit card number, some companies just renew without your permission..You can contact your bank because it is illegal to renew with your debit without your consent..The bank should make it good & make the company refund the money...

Well that's what I thought but I was told by the credit card company that I would need to call Webroot myself which I did and although they said they would credit me I am still waiting. Thank You my friend for your response. Knowing now this has happened to you as well, you'll know how it really ticked me off. Not a happy camper. Grandpa Bob stated he has learnt to really check to make sure when these companies send out reminders check to make sure the box does or does not have a check mark in it. I can't even remember getting a notice but I'll sure be watching more carefully.

I have had that happen before too....and it took alot of calls but they did discontinue the service and I got refunded....everyone had got to watch what they do as I think sometimes some of them are getting by with charging for services you haven't even ordered!

hi grandmaof2 yes I have been there too, thats why I hate to sign up for any pay through your credit card on line banking as it will show up when you only have z dollars left. I got involved once with this game site and let them have my credit card number which was supposed to only cost ten dollars. then thy kept adding to it so when they refused to give me back the overcharge I had my bank change my card number so then they sent a repayment to the bank and the bank did accept it so I had nothing further to do with this game site at all.

Give em hell, I keep getting charges on my phone bill, they say I have signed up for things online. I know I didn't. You have to watch all the charges, there is always somebody trying to scam you. Good luck getting a refund and whatever it is cancelled. Congrats on getting the credit card taken care of. Mine are so high that it makes me cringe. Hopefully sometime in my lifetime I will get them paid for. Take care and I wish you a Most Joyous Happy New Year.....

They should have no problem refunding your money if you are not using the service. I think when we sign up for the services, they should have to get an approval before billing again, just for that reason. Although I am sure alot of people don't pay alot of attention and they make some good money that way.

A lot of programs have the automatic renewal etc set to yes to accept the fee etc. I've seen this happen in a lot of software programs. One always has to make sure to uncheck and or check things when downloading new software etc. Sorry about the extra charges etc. Good luck also.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Yes Bob you are 100% right this is exactly what happened here. Apparently when I bought my first laptop I was running webroot and every year after that I just installed it myself therefore there were no charges. This time they automatically charged me and Visa would not remove it off my card because I had used their services in the past but they did give me a number to call, I called it and they said they would credit my card which has not been done yet although I did get an email from them saying it was done, I just keep checking. I expect with tomorrow being a regular working day it will get done then. Thank You so much for your response. Oh and yes Thank You by the way for the good advice I will be watching closer after this.

There was one automatic subscription renewal for a product I no longer use that showed up as a debit, but the company reversed the charge very quickly and quite graciously. I do not know anything about webroot, but I hope you get satisfaction from them. Congratulatiions on getting things under control. I am a great believer in budgets!

Thank You my dear friend. Love your avatar. Yes I agree I believe in not only budgeting but I stand strong in getting what is rightfully mine. I have to wait till after the weekend to see results, you know it's like pulling hens teeth to get anything done weekends. Thank You kindly for your response. Appreciate it.

HI,
I am sorry that I don't know what webroot mean but anyway, I always face this situation... Of course, I will not let them go easy. I will have to call Webroot to check them out and refund me back one what I dont use. If you called in and meet someone that doesn't want to take care of you then you have to recall them back again... hope you meet different person

i hope you can get your money back. but its doubtful. I would notify that bank/credit company whatever to refuse any more auto withdrawels from them. i know i once joined a dateing site years back. yahoo singles, in fact. they auto withdrew money from my account. said there was a box i left marked for that. what a lot do is have this little tiny box at the bottom when you agree to join that you dont see its pre- marked!! Norten virus protection has the same thing. and many others. if you keep the same bank account/credit card they charge you again when it comes due. btw, so does club pogo if you dont take your info off the account page.

I'm sure I have gone through something like this in the past but I don't remember the circumstances or what I did. I'm sorry I'm not much help. I just wanted to say what a bummer to get all excited and then find out you owe $46.00, lol
. I hope you do get a refund and that everything works out okay. Kathy.

Oh Yes Kathy it is a Big Relief!!! I know the charge wasn't huge but the thing is I did not ask for the product and if you let it go what will it cost next time? I do pay my bills, but I refuse to pay for something that I am not getting. That doesn't talk sense in my language.

i think youve been scammed. how can it be possible. webroot aint your relative that it is going to pay for you for something. i think there is a problem with your account.
i would suggest that without blaming them directly, simple ask them for what you owe them. i think your problem will be solved after this
