How late do you run your Christmas lights?

Do you run them til you go to bed? Or til a specific hour of the evening? And til what time frame to you continue to power your lights after the holidays. As it's a few days after new years & on my way home well past 10 pm I'm amazed at how many people have lights running & dark houses (probably sleeping)still. Especially the way the economy is if your going to run the lights why not conserve some electricity somewhere along the way but maybe that's just me?

Well, this year we didn't do any outdoor lights at all. We only had our Christmas tree this year and as far as the hours that I kept that lit up, I would turn it on when it started to get really dark outside and then I would leave it lit until I went to bed, so probably about six hours a night. The one exception that I made to this was Christmas Eve night I left the tree on all night because I wanted it to be on Christmas morning when the children woke up.

That is true you'd want the lights to be on when the kids get up or you could always say that Santa turned them on? We haven't done outdoor lights in years, hubby got to flustered with them.

I have my tree going all the time, just because it would be too hard to unplug it, the same goes for my client. Besides, we're old Calendar and that makes Christmas on Jan 7th!

I hear ya. It can be a PITA to unplug.... fortunatly I don't have to worry about the orniments moving the tree as they are plastic and the kids take off how many of them to fool around with so by Christmas there's not much on the tree beyond the angel & lights...

I didn't up up any lights outside, but the lights on our Christmas tree were on 24/7 from the time it was put up until just the other day. I still have not taken the tree down, but the lights are off. Mostly because I needed the extension cord that was hooked up to it for something else.

I know about using extension cords and having to borrow them from other places when necessary.

As I get older and more cautious, I turn my lights out when I go to bed--when I put them up, I didn't this year. In years past, I left them on all night to cheer up those people who have to come home late or work the third shift. I had at least two people over the years mention my lights to me and how it made them feel good late at night or when they went to work early in the morning. I hear the new LED lights will take very little energy. They are quite expensive but will last for years and save money in the long run.

That's so sweet of people to say that to you. I've heard that too about the LED lights but affording them like you said is a whole other kettle of fish.
