The Real Kitchen....  

My kitchen is way too small. I can't stand it. You can't even turn around with out bumping in to someone. I do cook at home a lot but I say to others get out of my kitchen especially when I am trying to make my husband a surprise he always tries to peek!

I love the older kitchens. There was always plenty of cupboard and counter space. The room was small though, but there was a dining room big enough to hold the largest gatherings. The kitchen was a warm place where happy memories were made. My kitchen is too small. Needs more cupboards and larger counter space. But, I have cooked up many memories in that kitchen and in the kitchens I have had in past years.

Majority of the time, I cook at home. The kitchen in my apartment is a bit small but I can get everything I need done. I would love a kitchen like my grandparents have in their apartment. It has a country feel to it and the counter space is marvelous. They also have a small kitchen table and nice size pantry. I remember all breakfasts, lunches, and dinners when I was smaller. Just recently we were there and I just hang out with my grandma while she washed dishes walking down memory lane.

I grew up in a farm house with a wood cook stove, a water pump to pump water into the house from the cistern, a work table and one free standing cabinet. Cooking was a necessity, but the kitchen was rather small, so either my Mother or my Sister of I cooked, but we rarely all cooked together.

My kitchen now is functional, lots of cabinet space, lots of counter space, but I have no dining area which is only a drawback when I have lots of company.

The modern homes now have two kitchens, wet and dry kitchens. The dry kitchen is somewhat for show where the latest kitchen cabinets are build in, refrigerator and a set of marble dining table are placed.While the wet kitchen is where heavy duty cooking is done. My kitchen is the most used area in my house. I spend most of my time in the house doing something in the kitchen. Either it is cooking food or baking cakes and bread. I have small island in the kitchen where I have friends coming over having a cup of coffee while I do my cooking or baking. My kitchen is fully functional and has the heaviest traffic in my home.

Ah! I am inclined to differ with this. :) I think nicer kitchen with good house help equals more of cooking. :) Cooking is something that a person likes or doesn't like. :) A person who likes cooking and is beauty conscious would be happier and more inclined to cook in modern kitchens than if he or she were to settle for a congested one. Likewise, a person who doesn't like cooking would shirk the chore irrespective of which kitchen he or she had to manage with. :)

My kitchen is too small so sometimes cooking is a little difficult, but I have my very own tricks. I know how to use the corners to put dishes without them falling, and sometimes I use the washing machine to hold dishes too while I'm cooking. Everyone learns to survive if they need to

I love modern kitchen design and modern appliances. When it comes to kitchens some people remodel or design for resale value, and some people do it for the love of cooking. I have this dream kitchin in my mind. The countertops are four inch thick etched glass, and there is a lot of counter space. The Fridge is plated in shinging gold over stainless steel with a freezer on the bottom. There is a chandelier over a center island and a double oven in the wall. I know it doesn't sound funcional, but there are too many details centered around me and my style to go on. In essence I dream of a huge kitchen with lots of room to chop and roast and knead. There's a row of stools for people to congregate around what is to my mind the hearth of my dream home. I love thinking about this and thinking about it coming true. I would love a kitchin that screamed comfort and smelled of cinnamon and curry.

The real kitchen for me is the place where my mom enlivens with her magic touch. Your description of kitchen reminds me of ours. It was a big old unfashionable house with the kitchen ever busy and the oven is always on. Lot of people whom we knew and do not knew ate every day. My grand mother used to cook our favorites and my mom was the manager. We had one cook who was superbly loving and used to cook with all the care on earth. we still have her and she has become a member of our family. Years later, as we grew up, the house was renovated to a modern one but the kitchen, on request of my grandmom remained the same. We still have the same old kitchen, the same 'Mashi' who cooks for us and my mom always on her toes making things special with her magic touch.

I thought modern kitchens were more ergonomic?

Don't they aim for that all important 'Work Triangle' where you can easily get between your fridge, cooker and sink. Ours is like that and my wife never complains. Only when I get in the way trying to sample the delights on offer.

I am more skilled in the dish washing area, but I do dabble now and then. I can rustle up a mean italian dish or a quick chinese stir fry.
