This morning i had to call my doctor because my prescription for my inhaler ran out. they informed me to call the pharmacy, which in turn said call my doctor and he should fax it!!angry Now heres what im wondering..why do I always have to do this only to get a prescription that lasts 3 or 4 refills? My emphyzema is not going to miraculously disappear and be cured EVER!rolleyes I will have it till I die and its probably whats going to get merasp So, why dont doctors give you a lifetime prescription for such things? Im at a real lose here as to their thinking. what about you? dont you think this makes sense? Do you have something like this thats not going to go away and yet you hassle for the prescription every few months.

It is a pretty good idea. However, the doctor needs to check you out every now and then, especially with chronic illnesses!blushIf the inhaler isn't working well enough it needs to be changed. some of us (myself included) would never visit the doctor if we had lifetime prescriptions.blush

It is pretty obvious as to why you don't get a lifetime prescriptions. A person may become addicted to the medicine. So they will take out the prescriptions more frequently. Or a person may become desperate and decide to try to sell it to somebody. I would think that normally a new written prescription from a doctor would least a year. Perhaps it was only for 3 or 4 refills because sometimes doctors want to see the patient in person when they write prescriptions with more available refills.

shocked ummm, yeah, if it was some drug that is mind controling, etc. but something like an inhaler?rolleyes besides i can only get it once a month which is the way im supposed to use it. sparingly. now if something changed i could see the visit, hesitation, whatever, and i have to have it. so im not going to sell it, he should realise thatdoh so give me a lifetime scrip for petes sake!!

Yeah, I don't know if it's possible to get addicted to inhalers. Maybe the doctors are just wanting to get more doctor visits so they can get more of your money.

Thankfully NO asthma inhaler I take is not habit forming (Ventolin) or I'd be in serious trouble I've been on it for years and yet go for days at a time without it. It's all about the need depending on asthma conditions. There's always a fancy excuse for doctors to grease their pockets with money.

yes i think they get an amount of kick back from drug companies for each prescription.

true but i wish some people would stay on life time meds if unbalanced or get serious counseling every month!!! prescriptions are abused for sure and i agree dr should see pt. i am so sick of people taking too many anti depressants and not being able to think right or behave properly but some need to take something like bi polar friends i have- i just was told some awful stuff by a friend i have spent so much time emailing and conversing personal stuff over the yrs for her to throw everything back in my face and hurt us deeply- i let her rant and rave for yrs about stuff and could always tell when she was upset but friends weather storms!shes funny talented smart and other side i just discovered really ugly nasty- a friend who people wouldnt work with yet i always stepped up to the plate and volunteered! little does she know and i never told her that- didnt want to tell her to hurt her feelings -maybe i should have!!! make her aware of what was going on-being bi polar is an illness but it can be controlled and handled correctly- he rlatest rant blew us out of the water-she mentioned i was in a pickle now? no we dont think so-she is!she threw away our friendship of many yrs! sad.

icepalace (44)  3 years ago

maybe we had no real friendsip when i thought we did! she violated my trust by poting awful untrue stuff on my lots- i wonder if her hubby saw it- just awful and sad- great way to start a newyear!!!there were times when she was sarcastic and i let it ride but now maybe i shouldnt have- she needs to be told it is improper behavior!!! she wouldnt like it and wouldnt tolerate it either- sad again!my friends saw the comments and were saddened too mortified! they all agree she needs meds and counseling!!!

icepalace (44)  3 years ago

i also need to add no matter what one's life stressors are you dont treat people in awful manners disagreements among friends are one thing but being down right cruel and slanderous another- friends dont do this! i wish her alot of blessings and hope she gets some help and meds! i think this is one reason she cant find stable work- people see how rigid she is and times are changing re jobs-need to be flexible on jobs and teaching which she does- shes an old maid that got married but never let that old maid rigid manner go away! all we can figure! she needs meds!!

Wouldn't that be just great if they could do this? Unfortunately, too many people take more than what's prescribed, or abuse narcotics, drugs, etc. That's why things are done this way, doesn't mean you'll overdue it, but there's people that think more is better.

Alot of the over the counter drugs, cough medicines can actually be taken in higher doses, BUT, because people usually take more anyway without following directions, they make the dosage lower. Blame society.

i guess with some drugs thats true but you'd think an exception for things like inhalers could be made since its not likely to be abused

I've known a few people who have had lifetime prescriptions but they are rare. You could ask your doctor why. If he/she can't give you a good enough reason why they won't do it, I see no reason why they shouldn't.

My prescriptions are usually for 2 or 3 months, the length of time between my doctor visits. My cardiologist didn't want to see me again for a year (unless I have new problems) and gave me two prescriptions with 12 refills. That was pretty cool.

I think they should give us lifetime prescriptions but they probably don't because they want to make sure we'll go back to see them. They've gotta pay for those expensive houses and cars somehow, right? doh

When I lived in Florida a few years ago, one of my friends was a guy who had lost a leg in a car accident. He had a handicapped emblem on his license plate, which allowed him to park in the allotted spaces. Once, when he went to renew his registration, he was informed he would have to bring a note from his doctor saying he still had his disability. He said (to the state agent who was standing right in front of him) "I lost my leg. Did you think it would grow back?" Nonetheless, rules are rules and he had to bring a note from his doctor saying that he still had only one leg.

lol OMG, some rules are just so crazy. it sounds like when i applied to have one of my bills changed over to my name after hubby died so i could build my own credit. the computer company actually sent me a refusal to change the nameshocked then sent a refusal for the credit he already had to my hubby. the reason, he is deceased..well duh!rolleyes and it came in his name to boot.

myLot reputation of 79/100. trruk1 (796)   ranked 700 out of 987 in live my life to the fullest  3 years ago

Yeah, sometimes rules are just nuts. I knew a man who was taking care of both his parents. This was way back when, long before computers. They both died a couple of months apart. He dealt with their mail for a month or two and then did not want to bother anymore. When a piece of mail came for either, he wrote "Deceased" on it and returned it unopened. The mail stopped, even the bills they had not paid. He thought "Gee, I wonder", and did the same with his own bills. It worked. Even notices from the IRS (he was not exactly diligent about paying taxes). He was listed in government records as dead, and was not bothered by any government agency the rest of his life. He lived many years after that, never paid taxes and was never bothered. I guess if any diligent government agent wanted to go after him, they would pull his file, find out he was dead, and give up.

hibunnybon7 no they cannot do that as medications often change manufactureres and strenghts change, even you may change, your emphyzema may get worse or better so the doctor may have to change the strength or even the kind of medication, there is too
'many variables to give anyone a lifetime prescription. but he pr she should be able to give you a longer prescription so you do not have such a frequent hassle with the prescription refills. here at Gold Crest the nurse does this prescription bit for me so am saved that hassle.

myLot reputation of 99/100. bunnybon7 (7725)   ranked 16 out of 987 in live my life to the fullest  3 years ago

maybe this is because your doctor wants to monitor your condition. the same is for me. i have asthma and i see my doctor every 6 months for a new supply. i also have thyroid issues and will be on pills for the rest of my life probably but i still have to keep going back too.

myLot reputation of 99/100. bunnybon7 (7725)   ranked 16 out of 987 in live my life to the fullest  3 years ago

No I don'tbut if I did have then I would be as cross as you are over it.sucha waste of time. Unless of course, the doctor needs to see you for an examination after the third refill or something? However, in your case why not even a prescription for a year?

myLot reputation of 99/100. bunnybon7 (7725)   ranked 16 out of 987 in live my life to the fullest  3 years ago

exactly. why not a long time between prescription renewal?

Hi,

since my heart attack in 2008, I am obliged to take four different types of medication.

These come in units of one and a half, and three times one, daily, and to be taken at specific times of the day.

If I stop taking them, or vary the dose, or change the times when I am supposed to take them, my heart may not react as it is supposed to - or so is the theory.

So every two months I have to go and restock on supplies. It would appear that if they gave me a life-time prescription, I could save that visit.

Apparently though, they can change the dosage, and maybe even the medication, if they notice a change. I cannot foresee what that change could be (once you have had a bypass, it has to be supported).

Maybe they may be expecting new and better medication may at some point be available, and in that eventuality, I should expect to have to change my prescription.

Hi Bunny,

It is the life and anything could happened so why you have thinking that
your dis order will not be cured permanently , be confident and have the
hope to get the fast relief as much as possible from your dis order. In
general the doctors are not allowed to be prescribed to any patients for
any medicines for life time , because as I have informed that anything would
happened in between , so it is the responsibility of the doctor and has to
check well about your condition before to prescribe any additional or same
medicines to you. So I hope that your would have the courage and confidence
about your health and wish you best of luck to get the relief as quick as
possible with this medicines .

Have a nice day.
