Another Major Recall of Over The Counter Medications |
| |
| One has to wonder like what is going on with recalls. Now it's one thing when we suddenly hear that the FDA is either pulling off prescription medications, or at least tacking on severe cautionary warnings about detrimental side effects of medications, but what is going on with recalls of OTC medications, many of which are products people have trusted for decades? Not long ago, a recall of the Arthritis Formula of Tylenol was pulled off the market due to complaints that the caplets gave off a strange moldy like odor which did affect people in causing them to have nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and/or diarrhea. Well now that recall is not only extended to all Tylenol products but many other under the McNiel division of Johnson and Johnson To quote from an article: The recall includes some batches of regular and extra-strength Tylenol, children's Tylenol, eight-hour Tylenol, Tylenol arthritis, Tylenol PM, children's Motrin, Motrin IB, Benadryl Rolaids, Simply Sleep, and St. Joseph's aspirin. The REAL kicker is that McNeil knew of the problem as early as early in the year of 2008 yet never mentioned anything...like HUH? Now I've never ever used Tylenol...my preference I suppose, but many people do rely on it...are you one of them? And was amazed that products like Rolaids and St. Joseph's Aspirin is included in this recall. Do any of you use any of these products? Have you gotten strangely sick and maybe never made the connection that it might have been one of these products? What I'd like to know..what the heck is going on??? If we can't trust OTC medications, like what are we supposed to trust anymore? Heck I just take good old aspirin for most of my problems Article source : http://abclocal.go.com/wa... | | That's what I don't like. When they know about the problem but do nothing. I'm sure their inaction could result in fines from FDA. Now about Tylenol, I don't buy their brand, I only buy the off brand. I'm not supposed to take aspirin or NSAIDs so I can only take Tylenol or take nothing if I have pain. But as I said, I take the off brand. I usually buy Sam's Clubs Choice, it's much cheaper. | | | | | | |

| | I usually use the store brands of OTCs as well since they are a lot cheaper. I don't care to take prescription NSAIDs either, since I've since heard a lot have very severe warnings about, like Cipro that can trigger heart attacks (oh lovely)--of course the chance of it actually happening might be nil, but why chance it...it's like playing russian roulette with one's life with prescription meds, but now that problems are cropping up with OTCs makes one wonder | | | |

| | Thank you for the head's up. I just sent this to a bunch of my friends. I use tylenol PM. Not very often. My husband and I just finished a bottle I bought in August of 2009. We were going to buy more. When our arthritis acts up, we can work through it, but we can't sleep through it. Usually it's only a couple of nights every once in a while when it's really, really damp. Well, it's been a weird year. It was damp all summer as well as off and on in the fall and winter. The Drs. don't want me to use aspirin or Aleve, so that pretty much narrows down what I can use. We use tums, I don't see that on the list. Too bad, I liked Aleve. Moldy like oder, sounds grouse, doesn't it? | | | | | | |

| | I hardly ever use Tylenol, mostly because it has always upset my stomach. The only time I buy it is if I have bursitis and I haven't had that for a while. With all the recalls now, doesn't it make you wonder if the production quality has gotten worse, or if people are just paying more attention and reporting more? With so many pills having coatings now, who would notice if there was a strange aroma or taste? I wonder what else the coatings hide? | | | | | | |

| | It is going to get to the point where we will not have to worry about our healthcare here in the USA because nobody will want to go to a doctor, fill any perscriptions or even take OTC meds for fera they will die from a poisoned medication. I only take plain lable aspirn for pain and an ocassional off brand benedryl for allergy and sinus. Maybe we should all just drink instead of take perscriptions or OTC's. | | | | | | |

| | I am a person that has to change my meds pretty regularly because they stop working for me. I usually use Arthritis Tylenol. I did have a weird rash for awhile and have really been racking my brain for where it could have come from. My daughter and I both react to food and meds this same way sometimes. It really makes me wonder. | | | | | | |

| | Well, I wondered about that. Maybe I got some of the 'bad batch'. But I don't think so because I baught it about the first of the year 2009 and I think that was too soon for it to have been a part of the 'bad batch'. | | | |

| | Unbelievable how many products are listed. My daughter sent me this a couple of days ago, and I was amazed. I don't take Tylenol, just generic aspirin, thank goodness. Makes you wonder AGAIN, what the heck is going on, and I wonder how many people really got sick and didn't associate it with the pills. Scary. | | | | | | |

| | any company..that knows of a problem and doesn't act on it..should be up on charges. simple as that. this isn't the first problem tylenol has had either(the poisonings)..you'd think they'd want to put customers at ease before people just plain not buy it. | | | | | | |

| | I get a kick of their ads...something alone the line of saying a product you have trusted for years...oh, sure. Like you said, first those poisonings years back and now this...oh, they don't mention just how BAD Tylenol can be for the liver...read somewhere one woman took Tylenol and wound up having the need for a liver transplant | | | |

| | Hi Pye, I have been read this news and have got very big shock that one of the well branded and fast moving counter medicines like Tylenol Arthritis has been recalled by the Federal Drug Authority, due to the composition of the ingredients which would harms the side effects of nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and diarrhea. There was some indication from the manufacturer that some batches of products would have the side effects and not for all the products which has been manufactured in the laboratory. Still we are waiting for the final notice and other comments from the Federal Drug Authority in order to avoid the medication for further treatment. This current medicines has been well popular in the counter of a pharmacy and have been sold out many more billions of caplets in the markets. So it is the responsibility of the FDA to decide whether to revoke the license for this products or not, so still we are waiting for the final comments from the authority. Have a nice day. | | | | | | |

| | Well it seems these companies and the FDA have been sleeping at their jobs. Like if that company knew about problems more than a year ago, why didn't they pull it off the market then? Also, the FDA should do more regular testing of any kind of medications whether prescription or OTC and on a more regular basis | | | |
