I emigrated to this country when I was 18 years old, I have to say this is a great country where you have the most important thing that a human being can have, that is freedom, but I have seen so much people that are not open to immigrants coming to this country because they argue that immigrants takes their job opportunities, and bring crime and drugs to this country. On the other hand I have seen people that embrace people from other countries and races and help them to their integration in the society. I meet people that helped me to learn to speak English, and helped me when I went to college to integrated to the system. What do you think? I would like to hear opinions.

First, Welcome to the U.S. glad to have you aboard.
Now, lets distinguish between legal immigrants like yourself who came to this country by way of a lawful process, went through all the paper work and tangled red tape it requires, are willing to assimilate and embrace citizenship and all america has to offer...and the ilegal immigrants who sneak across our borders and break our laws, refuse to learn english, demand rights, public services and such. These people are a slap in the face to the genuinely honest immigrants who wait often years to do it the right way.
Most people in the U.S. are more than happy to welcome new immigrants to our country. Immigrants contribute greatly to our society and culture. But what most americans object to are the latter type I mentioned, the ilegal immigrants.

We get too many immigrants both legal and illegal. I personally think it has hurt our country more than it has helped. Our politicians support an open border policy even though the majority of Americans don't support it. We need limited and controlled immigration. I don't blame people for wanting to come to the USA. However, I do blame our politicians for not doing a better job of controlling immigration.

Why do you think the legal immigration have hurt this country, for example, I am a good citizen, pays my taxes, and I have adjusted to the country, and there are a lot of people like me. I am engineer for a high tech company and the majority of my co-workers are immigrants, and the reason why they and people like me are here is because in this country there are not enough engineers.

I have no problem with immigrants. All of us who were not Native Americans, are immigrants. That's what made America and that's what the spirit of America is all about - people looking for a better life and not being afraid to leave the old behind.
BUT... when anyone comes into the US ignoring our laws, sneaking in, that's not the spirit of America. That's cheating, plain and simple. Those people are not looking for a better life; they're looking for a free ride.
Those people sometimes take true citizen's jobs, but more often, they steal the taxpayers' money. They do that by using facilities set up for citizens, abusing our system of helping those who need it and forcing their culture into the mainstream culture of the US.
That is not welcome.

I am all for immigration...as long as it is done legally. If people are willing to follow the proper and legal process to come to this country and become citizens...than I say Welcome, I hope you enjoy it here.
But I do have a BIG issue with the people who come here illegally. They DO need to be deported. They have NO respect for this country, it's laws or the poeple who live here. THey need to obey our laws and respect our country. Especially if they want to live here permenately. They are breaking the law and are therefore criminals.
If you can't come here legally...then don't come here at all.

i think in all countries you have a certain segment of the population who like to blame immigrants for all kinds of problems, usually without any basis in fact. this is because it is simple to blame outsiders for complex economoc problems. it occurs in this country too but most people are not like this - only a minority.
