Say hello to a Born Again Leapfrogger! |
| |
| I've always thought leapfrogging was a waste of good writing time, so I've only ever done it if I've found glaring typos, which doesn't happen very often, I have to say. Two of my friends from MyLot have now joined Helium, and they are rather concerned that I have no writing stars and they do. I wasn't too concerned about this, as I earn a respectable residual income, but one friend in particular has analysed my articles and advised me which ones to leapfrog to get my writing score up and earn some stars. She's much more practical than I am. Anyway, on Monday, I decided to try it out, and I'm keeping a chart to see how the articles do after leapfrog. I have to say, I'm amazed at the results. Of the 12 leapfrogs so far accepted, 7 have gone up from almost at the bottom of the pile to the top 25%. One zoomed up from 54 of 58 to 5 of 58. Even an article that was rejected for the leapfrog has moved to number 2 in the rankings. So, before I write anything new, I'm going to work through my 200+ articles leapfrogging like mad. I hope to have a writing star by the weekend. How about you? Do you leapfrog? Does it work for you? Any good tips for my other leapfrogs? | | | | | |

| | Hello, Lamb. Always glad to see you. Basically, 'leapfrogging' is the term Helium uses for editing. The articles are rated by other members, and if an article is sliding down the list, you can leapfrog it to bring your writing score back up again. BTW, did you get laid yet, or is it still a work in progress? | | | |

| | Hello, Judith - I'm working on it. I was really surprised how much difference the leapfrogging has made already, as I always thought it was a waste of time. It's certainly made me reasses my Helium strategy, and it's nice to have friends over there as well as here. | | | |

| | Hiya Sandra I am still unsure what leapfrogging means, but as you probably know I haven't been back to the site in some time. One of my poems was conmtinually being deleted for being in the wrong category and I had no idea to which it would belong lol. I had one star and would've found it easy to maintain, because I enjoyed reading the poetry. Anyway... I am pleased that you are having success with yours. Alice_in_webland | | | | | | |

| | Congratulations! I think the longer you leave your articles on Helium that they just kind of fall to the end. It's especially important to leap frog with a big group of articles like that. I don't like the rating system too well because the newer articles usually go to the top. It's always good to remind everyone of your article by leapfrogging and putting it towards the top again. I am sure you will have a lot of writing stars by the weekend. Good luck. | | | | | | |

| | Hello, MommaJ. You're much more experienced on Helium than I am, so thanks for your advice. I always thought leapfrogging was a waste of time, but the last few days have proved me wrong. As you say, it's good to bring older titles back into the ratings, and at least when I have some writing stars I can go for empty titles and up front payments. I've found my enthusiasm for Helium again. | | | |

| | Good for you. I know you are a great writer and I am sure that once you get your articles looked at again that you will get those stars in no time. Then you can start making upfront payments which will be nice. Better than not getting anything for them. Try to leapfrog the ones that are lower than 50% first. When you leapfrog if the leapfrog is accepted your article starts at the 50% range and moves from there. | | | |

| | Thanks Anythng, I actually got an email on that. I am sure they will refuse me on that topic like all the other topics I applied for. LOL I'm still working on my writing. I noticed sometimes you get an article that just kind of stands out. The rest of them suck. LOL Trensue, I have looked through some of those empty titles. BOY does Sandra have a selection on Helium. I am actually starting to write to some of them, after I get them approved on AC. LOL | | | |

| | I have not done much with Helium, I guess I need to get busy. I have a dozen articles there, I think. I will have to find time to get busy with that site again. | | | | | | |

| | Hello, Gerty. I've discovered that, the more time you can spend on Helium, the more you get out of the site, both earnings wise and creatively. I've earned more in the last 3 months than in the previous two years, and I find I'm enjoying improving on my older articles. It's definitely worth devoting some time to it. | | | |

| | Hello- I've been missing, but his topic is important. I love to leap. I have written a lot that just plain needs to be fixed. I also know that as raters we get bogged down with reading the same titles, so during a contest great article may sink to the bottom. After a few weeks after the contest a leap may rocket the article up a few notches. I find that weekend nights are the worst time for me to try and submit a leap. They rarely get approved them. Even some of mine that were 200 words from the early days and were upgraded to real articles were rejected. I keep trying until it works. I am a firm believer in leaping!! You go girl!! But still write new things. | | | | | | |

| | Hello, Trensue. Thanks for the tips. I'll avoid leapfrogging at the weekend if that's the case. I've leapfrogged about 20 titles so far, and two have been rejected. I honestly don't know why, because one was the first article I wrote for Helium, and I just cringed when I read it through again. The leapfrog was tons better. I've made sure I've altered the opening paragraph in each one, so that raters realise there are changes. Some of the leapfrogs I've been asked to rate looked exactly the same, and I didn't want that happening to mine. I've written one new article this week as well. I think it's important to keep fresh stuff coming, as well as improving the existing articles. | | | |

| | Hello, Art. Yes, I've always seen leapfrogging as a waste of time, but as the results get better and my writing score rises, I'm becoming quite evangelical about it. As you say, with Helium, it's all about ratings. It's actually been quite an eye opener in regard to my writing as well, because I started at the bottom of the pile, with the first articles I did back in September 2007. At the time, I thought they were good, or I'd never have posted them, but I can see a definite improvement in my writing over time, which is why I thought I really ought to try and get myself some writing stars. | | | |

| | Hi anythng, You know it's rare I try to leapfrog. LOL Most of my articles that are at the bottom have stayed there. LOL You are right about leapfrogging and making a difference. I think they really need to improve the whole rating system. I guess it is good they use real people instead of machines, but sometimes the people don't read the title that is being written to, or they just don't read the articles. I am going to try to take more time to rate. I want to get to the extra rating money. LOL | | | |

| | Thea!! HAHAHAHAHA! sure! Your wit hasn't suffered a bit! I am glad you will eventually, one day, sooner or later, if all goes well, and in this lifetime, have a properly working toilet and a duvet! I have had a little surgery so I am here in spurts , poor me, so I must say an open wound would NOT be anything but an attraction to sea life of a threatening kind to my wellbeing. Thus a delivery at this time is not feasable... The DAIM bars I have slipped under the plastic covering of a duvet that you will eventually when the time is right and at a non predetermined time will receive to warm you against the cold in winters to come. This I declare has all been a fabrication of my imagination of wishes to come true.. alas! | | | |

| | Hello, you two. Fancy having a party and not inviting me! Thea, don't let Leif play down his injuries - he hasn't squeezed my oranges for days, so it must be serious. If you're desperate for the toilet, we have two, so you're welcome to pop over and use one. Bring your own paper, though, as we're on an economy drive. Leif, stop toying with Thea. The Greek will be after you - and he won't be looking for you to squeeze your oranges, either. Oh, I don't know, though ... | | | |
