Will Ron Paul's Age Be An Issue?

With Dr. Ron Paul winning the CPAC straw poll, Paul one would have to assume would be one of the favorites for the GOP nomination in 2012. Problem is Dr. Paul, who was born in 1935 will be 77 in 2012, and with victory would put him at 81 come the end of his first term. Now granted people are living longer fuller lives, but I could see Dr. Paul's age becoming an issue. On the flip side it is interesting that the oldest man in the field has the youngest support base. To another subject about Dr. Paul's victory, a few years back he only received a couple of percent of votes. Dr. Paul's opinions have not changed, so do this mean the opinions of the Republican base has?

I am still trying to understand how McCain's (no, i didnt vote for him) age was a health concern for folks in the 2008 elections but Obama's smoking was NOT....I can see similar contradictions comming up in the next election if Paul should run.

Age verses life style, to some I guess one matters more than the other

I do not see it as a issue....but a lot of people might consider it one. Truthfully I wish I was as healthy as Ron Paul. How many men his age (or even younger) bike 5 miles a day? Ron Paul does. He may be older...but he is in great health so I don't see his age as an issue at all.

I hope than I can be as health as Ron Paul is when I become his age. We might not have an issue, but I am concern that too many will pay more attention to his age than his opinions.

Heck I would like to be as healthy as he is NOW. I don't bike or run 5 miles a day. I am in my thirties. Ron Paul is healthier than I am. I hope people will look past his age....and see he has great opinions and has common sense...something most politicans don't have.

I think the opinions of America are changing! I have always liked Ron Paul but I agree his age would be a liability. If we could find a running mate that matched him.... but I doubt it. Nobody else in Washington has the huevos that Paul has.

If he becomes a threat to win than yes, his age will be used to attack him just as it was used to attack McCain. The fact that he is in good health and sharp as a knife is irrelevant. The attacks will come flying. Sure, they won't be able to make internet jokes like they did with McCain, but they'll come up with something. I think that perhaps the Republican base just didn't know him well enough. He seems to have been getting a lot more attention since the last election. I've noticed that even people on the left who strongly disagree with him on issues still respect him. I think people have also realized that they need a person they can trust in the White House. Someone who will tell it like it is and actually refer to the constitution when dealing with issues instead of just telling people what they want to hear before breaking promise after promise.

If he becomes a threat, well I wonder if the Republicans will even let Paul in the room.

yes, of course it will be an issue since he will be 77 if he runs for president.

Honestly I would rather vote for an old president than a young one, Worst that can happen to an old one is he could have senile tendencies in office (I would rather a senile president than an ignorant or worse, evil one.) Or straight out die. But on the flipside he has decades more experience than the other guys, and We wouldn't have to pay his retirement pension as long as other presidents. Seriously, According to this article (and doubtlessly elsewhere too) http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2009/01/15/2009-01-15_between_6figure_pension_and_speaking_ret.html A retired President (And there are Several still alive) can make upwards of 200,000 dollars a year. And we will be able to pay Obama for his wonderful help likely for the next 30 years, plus whatever he makes for whatever job (likely senator or something) at the same time. Thats over 6 million dollars just for him. Yeah, I'd rather the older guy who's speeches don't personally offend me for taking the point of view that I do. And the same guy who has seen the financial meltdown coming for several decades (and HAS tried to do things about it. And HAS tried to get laws passed stating that in order to vote a representative has to sign that he read and understood the law he is signing.) I'm only 17, I couldn't vote last election year. I get to register to vote this year, and when 2012 comes around, if he runs, There is an excellent chance I will vote for him.
