Burning My Strawberries.

Spring is just around the corner and I burnt the last two of my strawberries. And I have a photo of the last burning attatched as well. There was no purpose to burn these strawberries other than they had been around for nearly 30 years. The strawberries I burnt were not plants, not fruits. They were candles I had bought many years ago at a garage sale. They'd collected so much dust so we decided to use them instead of for decoration. What is the oldest candle you've ever burnt? Do you have any novelty shaped candles?
As always.....

Yes, I have a lot of novelty shaped candles. I used to collect them. I have one of a dolphin in "mid soar", a glow in the dark hippie looking flower candle, a cherry pie candle, a cow candle, a chihuahua candle, and a couple more than I just can't think of. I used to have this big Scooby Doo scenery type candle, but my sister destroyed it a couple of years ago when she was visiting. It had the whole Scooby gang and their van on a platform, but it was a candle.

I had a dolphin candle once too, and of course some teddy bears! My favorite teddy bear one was a purple one (I bet that's a surprise),
and it was glittery! It was sooooooo pretty! Unfortunately a friend of mine dropped it when I was moving and because it was summer and really hot it was soft so his face got all smooshed!

The Scooby one would have been worth some money to a collector if it was from the era of the show and not a recent make of them.

I do not buy the novelty candles because I would hate to burn them. I have a huge vanilla candle that is all hollow inside from the three wicks. I have several candles in jars. I really like candle warmers that just melt the wax, but have no open flame. You put the candles in jars on them. You are still supposed to be careful and not burn them too long as the jars can over heat and explode where there is an air pocket.

Good advice about those candles in the jar GG!! I actually had that happen many years ago. Scared the beejeebers out of me to say the least. The jar exploded and immediately started a lace table runner on fire, even though the jar itself was sitting on a china saucer. Good thing I was quick putting it out! I would never leave a room, even for a minute, and leave a candle burning. Will have to look into those warmer thingies you're talking about. It seems I'm always getting those scented candles in the jar for Christmas.

I have never bought one of those types.
I've thought about it but I love the flame flickering I guess.
Plus the idea of a glass jar on heat doesn't seem safe to me.

Hahaha, ya had me going for a minute until I read the whole post. I thought 'hmmm, why's Grandpa Bob burning his strawberry patch?!' Cute strawberry candle! I have a candle that looks like a miniature blueberry pie. I've had it since I had my first apartment in my 20's (now, I'm older than dirt, so you can only imagine exactly how old this candle is!) It's been residing in my china hutch for years, maybe it's time I burnt it too. Gee, I hope it smells like blueberry pie...

I may dig up my starwberries to replace them with a new plant. But I'd never burn them. Especially since I live in a large city.

Hi Grandpa Bob! It's been a while, hope you and your family are all doing well! Your candle is really cute, almost too cute to burn. I bet it does smell heavenly though if it's a scented one. I LOVE burning strawberry scented candles. I used to collect different shaped and novelty candles (I had a dolphin one, a few dragon ones, some teddy bear candles, and a few Santa and snowmen ones for Christmas), but now I just burn the ones in the jar that smell delightful! I LOVE the strawberry and cream ones, and I LOVE the purple grape smelling ones!
Those 2 are my favorite!

Yes it has been awhile.
I am not here like I used to be.
I'm lucky to make payout in 3 months time now.
But try as I may, I just can't get back into myLotting like previously.
I'd start a discussion back last year and get 50 responses.
Now I'm lucky to get 10. Plus too many members ask for friendship and NEVER respond to mine so......

I too haven't been Mylotting as much as I used to! That probably has something to do with having a baby in October, and of course also having a Mommy let's do this, and Mommy lets do that 3 year old!

hi Grandpa Bob those are really lovely, glad you are using them, do they
smell as good as they look? I have some in storage specially a pink one
not a novelty one but its big and fat and smells like night blooming
jasmine when it is burning. I love pretty and good smelling candles. I should get some for our room here as it gets stuffy smelling at times, and when my roomie uses nail polish the air almost puts me unconscious. he he. he.

Hi Hatley!
Are you sure you would like to burn a candle while the nail polish fumes are in the air?
They might ignite and then you would burn the place down. Probably not, but it is a thought.

Hi GRANDPA BOB,
The strawberry candle looks really nice, its such a shame you burnt them as it could have been a collectable item, people are always looking out for something unsual things, but it is pretty.

Yes they may have become collectible, but, they would not have garnished a large enough sum for me to hold on to them. I love
candles and burning them too much.

Hi Grandpa Bob. I had one. I got it back before I was a teenager, I think. It looked just like a cat. I had gotten it from a place in the mall that sold candles.
I'm not exactly sure what became of it, though I know I never burnt it as it was just too cute to burn. I'm pretty sure that I left it with my mom after I moved away in '93. Who knows if she still has it now as I haven't bothered to ask her. I honestly had forgotten all about it up until now. LOL
Happy mylotting!

I have a little choir of candles that used to come out for Christmas (haven't lately, though). They were popular in the 50s. You might have seen them yourself. (My cousin has some, too.)

That's a really cute candle!
I don't normally burn candles but I have a bayberry I bought this Christmas that I need to store for next year. I do have a novelty candle in the shape of a castle, with the outside covered in a sandy material--a sand castle! I dear friend gave it to me years ago and I'll never burn it. I use it as decoration, it's here in my office where I can see it and think of him.

Candles of different shapes is not new to me because I've visited a whole factory here in India at Nainitaal,Uttar Pradesh. They actually manufacture candles of differnt shapes. When I along with my family went for a tour to Nainitaal,we bought candles of angels, watermelons, apple, like this.It was a sort of show piece. But the point is in summer it melts and the shape deforms.Hence,I'd to burn them out.
