I was watching, "No Reservations" with Anthony Bourdain tonight and he mentioned that 80% of Icelanders believe in trolls and pixies. Now, I love the music group the Pixies. But I am not sure I believe in them. Maybe it would take so heavy shots of Tequila to convince me. Are there any Icelanders in Mylot who can shed some light on this?
Do you think this is a silly notion?

I dont think it is silly, I think it is cute the way they build their roads around boulders because the ones that live in them don't want to move. You can take a ghost tour in Hafnarfjordur (right outside Reykjavik) and if you are hiking, you might come across a boulder with the sign utbui, meaning there lives someone in it. I am not sure whether 80 percent of the Icelanders believe it though.

Not just the Icelanders but quite a lot of other northern european countries have or had very similar beliefs. It's where all the fairy tales come from. I don't see why it would be silly for Icelanders to believe that just because they are "educated and modern" - no one questions the animistic beliefs of newly discovered tribes out in the wilds as "silly", they just send anthropologists to learn about it.
