I Don't Know About You But I Think This Is Rather Cruel: The Pet Washer   email this discussion to a friend?

I heard this story on the very late news last night. It's a product called The Pet Washer and was "invented" in Japan and for awhile only used there, but some are even found in America now. It almost looks like a gigantic microwave and a dog or cat is placed in it, and one pushes a few buttons to start the wash cycle, it also can dry the pet as well.

Now some might think this is a great invention and idea but there's already been some controversy about it as some think it smacks as downright cruelty, especially if one sees a video of a cat being "washed" this way. Would you ever think of using such a device to wash your pet? Would you subjugate your beloved pet to this knowing it might freak your pet out or would you just stick to the good old fashioned means of washing your pet?

Here's an article about it

Here's the video of the cat being washed. The poor thing is panic stricken

I don't like the idea of it either. All I can think is that at some point there will be a malfunction and a huge recall of these machines. I don't trust that a robot will be in any way gentle in bathing a pet! When did we get so lazy?

myLot reputation of 98/100. pyewacket (12221)   ranked 2 out of 1,586 in pet owner  2 years ago

Yeah the way that water is coming down on the dog (and cat) looks more like a torrential downpour of water and a pet could maybe even drown with so much water coming at full blast like that

myLot reputation of 99/100. jcj_111776 (1353)  2 years ago

I saw the video and I don't like it either. The cat was obviously frightened. But one comment made about the video said that the cat was jumping with joy???!!!doh

myLot reputation of 98/100. pyewacket (12221)   ranked 2 out of 1,586 in pet owner  2 years ago

I didn't see that comment...but then you have a lot of stupid remarks posted under a lot of videos at Youtube. At least most do agree that the cat was scared and thought that washer is cruel

myLot reputation of 99/100. jcj_111776 (1353)  2 years ago

I pity that cat... The moment water started coming out, the cat got scared. And when water was coming out everywhere... I wish I was there so I can turn that awful machine off!

I won't even look at the youtube video.
I saw a tiny terrier being washed in it on CNN.
That was so cruel looking.
As always.....

I saw this on tv and think its an awful way to wash the dog. It would make them scared and give them a fear of getting washed. I like the old fashioned way to wash the dog at least you can calm them and talk to them while they are getting washed. They would also get a bit of a massage too.

myLot reputation of 98/100. pyewacket (12221)   ranked 2 out of 1,586 in pet owner  2 years ago

I can't thinking it's a rather traumatic way to wash a pet and glad to hear you think it's an awful idea as well

I don't think this is funny at all. To me this is downright cruel. I would never allow any of my animals to go through that. Watching that poor cat was breaking my heart. The poor thing was so scared. The owners should be ashamed of themselves for doing that to the poor thing.

myLot reputation of 98/100. pyewacket (12221)   ranked 2 out of 1,586 in pet owner  2 years ago

I don't think it's funny either and I feel so sorry for that cat. At least when you bathe a pet by hand you can talk to them, hold them, soothe them...but to put a pet into one of those things really is downright cruel in my mind

hi pyewacket thats just plain animal cruelty, and that cat was not funny at all, that was so mean. the kitty was plainly scared out of its wits'why would any invent something that awful? thats just plain
cruel. I felt so bad for the kitten and the people who made comments
also felt the same way. there was nothing funny about that at all, nothing. they should be ashamed of themselves.I hope that nobody here in the US buys any of those pet washers thats just too despicable for
words. I love cats and would never use that contraption at all.devildunce capdunce cap

I'm glad the people who made comments under that video thought it was cruelty too...poor thing, it was terrified. Whatever happened to cleaning/washing a pet the old fashioned way?

There should be a march to stop this product. My cat would not be the same if I did this cruel thing to him. he already runs when he hears water or a spray bottle. lion hates water unless it;s in his bowl. There are no words to describe how this is horrible. The worse thing about it is the cat can't speak up for it self. I feel like crying so I will stop right here. sad

One of my two cats is very timid...she runs and hides when just hearing rain on the windows...so she be completely panic stri ken in something like this, even my other cat wouldn't like it. I wonder who the jerk was that invented this cruel idea anyway?

Definitely this is cruel for me. Poor kitten, tried to escape from the washer. Scared to dead, unable to escape.
I am claustrophobic, I can feel the cat's emotions when locked...
My dogs would probably end up with heart attack...I would never let my animals to experience such cruel wash...fear

myLot reputation of 98/100. pyewacket (12221)   ranked 2 out of 1,586 in pet owner  2 years ago

I wouldn't either. They should definitely take it off the market. Sooner or later some serious accident could occur and only then would they recall it

I'm not sure what was going on in the mind of whoever invented the Pet Washer. But it was clearly shown in the video, that the cat was frightened. It wasn't jumping with joy as one commented in the video. It was trying to get out!

I have two German Shepherd almost 4-month old puppies. Bathing them can be quite a challenge sometimes. But I'm not going to put them inside a Pet Washer! Yes, bathing them sometimes include some chasing around especially Shadow (the male) but that adds to the fun!

Shadow and Adda

myLot reputation of 98/100. pyewacket (12221)   ranked 2 out of 1,586 in pet owner  2 years ago

LOL--I used to have a cat named Shadow..a black cat. While that Pet washer is cruel in itself, I just hope there isn't a serious accident that would harm a pet in it...something like that washer should be recalled, but recalls only happen if accidents or deaths happensad

myLot reputation of 99/100. jcj_111776 (1353)  2 years ago

I guess the name Shadow is very in demand!happyThe truth is, Shadow's real name in his papers is Angel Law of Fang. But we decided that Shadow is much more suitable for him because he just follows you everywhere you go.

Is your cat Shadow the one in your profile picture?

That's the harsh reality of technology. Machine inventions pop out like mushrooms these days. Either they make our lives better or they make it worse. But I wonder why the need for such machines like the Pet Washer? I know that it can be time consuming and some effort to have one of our pets needs, taken care of. Such as bathing. But to put them inside a box that obviously scares the wits out of them, is way beyond me!doh

That avatar photo is one I scanned from the cover of a book called "Your Magical Cat"...it just seemed so appropriate with my user name of pyewacket. I do have a black cat now though named Pyewacket. As for Shadow...he's long gone in Rainbow Bridge
Here's a photo of my Pyewacket

myLot reputation of 99/100. jcj_111776 (1353)  2 years ago

Pyewacket's photo reminds me of a pet cat we had when we were kids. My father actually adopted Jaguar. He's one among the many cats my father adopted through the years. They come live with us and they come and go. But Jaguar, he stayed the longest. : )

I'm sorry about Shadow. I also lost a beloved pet just this January 19. Ashley, our almost 5-year old German Shadow lost her fight to a very serious skin problem. She was scheduled to be put to sleep but she chose to go on her own. sad

Your cat is very good-looking. I really like Pyewacket's eyes. It seems to look through my soul!happy

myLot reputation of 99/100. jcj_111776 (1353)  2 years ago

I'm sorry about the typo. I meant, "German Shepherd" and not "German Shadow" blush

myLot reputation of 98/100. pyewacket (12221)   ranked 2 out of 1,586 in pet owner  2 years ago

I'm sorry to hear about Ashley..what kind of skin disease was it? The only reason I ask is that there's been a lot of news lately about commercial flea and tick products that are causing all kinds of serious health issues to pets..so was the skin problem your Ashley perhaps related--did you use any of those products?

myLot reputation of 99/100. jcj_111776 (1353)  2 years ago

Ashley's vet and I share the same suspicion. We think she got infected by a neighbor's dog who is allowed even up to this day to roam around our street unleashed. The neighbor has more than a couple of dogs who has mange from hell!angry

I discovered it late that Ashley liked to make contact with one of the dogs by way of touching her nose with the other dog. She did this through a small opening in our gate. Sure enough, she got infected and it all started with a small blister around her face.

The first time she received treatment, it worked. I thought the problem was finally over. But I was wrong because the problem resurfaced again and she had to be treated again.

Her vet was beginning to worry because he was using Ivermectin on Ashley. He said she should have been free of the scabies but it kept coming back. Then, we decided to have her blood checked to see if there is a deeper reason why her skin problem kept coming back. But her blood result came back normal.

The second treatment worked again. The vet and I were hoping that the problem will be finally over. But after barely a couple of months, it appeared again. And this time, it was the last straw for Ashley. Her health steadily declined. And I knew at the back of my mind what I needed to do. But it was truly difficult.

The vet helped me get through with the "schedule". But the day before she was going to be put to sleep, she died. happy

Ashley only used herbal soaps recommended by her vet. He said to not use soaps that has harsh ingredients because it will make Ashley more itchy.

Oh no! I put in the wrong mylot code!!! It should been a sad face!!!

myLot reputation of 99/100. jcj_111776 (1353)  2 years ago

But the day before she was going to be put to sleep, she died. happy

Please admin! Can you please correct this one? I don't want anyone who will read this think that I was happy when my dog died!

myLot reputation of 98/100. pyewacket (12221)   ranked 2 out of 1,586 in pet owner  2 years ago

LOL--no problems jcj_111776---Actually when you think of it maybe it was for the best that your Ashley did die the day before being put down. It's never an easy choice to put a beloved "baby" down...I've had to do that myself in the past and it's such a hard decision to make, so when a pet dies naturally maybe for the best??

myLot reputation of 99/100. jcj_111776 (1353)  2 years ago

Hello again pye..happy I'm sorry it took me awhile to comment back. I've been busy lately. Fortunately, the incident with the wrong mylot code didn't earn a negative comment from others. Whew!I've noticed that there are some Mylotters who doesn't read the whole comment and just read parts of it. And if they do come across mine, I just can imagine how they will react to that wrong mylot code!rolleyes

I agree with you on that one, about dying naturally. I knew back then, that I needed to make the decision. But it felt as if I was the one "pulling the trigger" on Ashley. The fact that she needed "help" so she can finally have her rest didn't comfort me at all.

I remember when I called the vet for "help", I had difficulty talking because I had to keep myself from crying. It was the most difficult phone call I ever went through my entire life. cry

I saw this on our news yesterday and was absolutely amazed that anyone would be so stupid as to think that this would be a great idea. No way would I ever want to put any animal into something as awful as that, for heavens sake.

myLot reputation of 98/100. pyewacket (12221)   ranked 2 out of 1,586 in pet owner  2 years ago

I wonder who the idiot was who thought up this Pet Washer in the first place. Are people so lazy they don't want to bathe a pet the old fashioned way? If that's the case they don't deserve to have a pet in the first place

This thing is crazy and looks like an accident waiting to happen. What happens if it malfunctions and the water comes out scorching hot...I saw the emergancy stop button but that can malfunction as well. The dog didn't seem to mind it too much but the poor cat seemed hysterical. Cats are generally not bathed. They are more of a self cleaning animal. I think it's simply a way for lazy ppl to get out of having to bathe their animal. I would never use one.

I couldn't help thinking the same thing that the machine could malfunction in some way and as you say an accident waiting to happen. They really should take these things off the market altogether

Yes..I saw this in news day before yesterday i think..It looks like all is good..but I don't think it is good to use...what happens some electronic disaster happen in that machine. They can be very dangerous. So I strictly don't recommend this...Washing pet is somewhat enjoyment and we should do by our own.Though I didn't have a pet but I can feel that.So for me that machine is not that good..rolleyes

I'm glad you agree that this machine is a bad idea...it could always malfunction somehow and would do harm to the animal
