Winter Weather Question for Women

Try saying that five times fast! Anyway, this is a question for women, but if you guys are suckers for punishment, go ahead and read on. Today where I live it is 70 degrees. So nice and sunny. Tomorrow it will get down to the teens, with a high in the low 30s. We are supposed to get 4-6 inches of snow this weekend. I know, crazy. Anyway, for some reason it made me thing of women shaving their legs. I have a friend who doesn't shave their legs at all during the winter. To be honest, when she told me that I wondered why I hadn't thought of that. It never occurred to me to just not shave my legs in the winter. I mean pants are all the rage in cold weather. Luckily, I only have to shave my legs one every two weeks because I guess I'm lucky. So I was wondering women, do you not shave your legs at all during the winter? I do understand in some cultures women do not shave their legs at all. But I do. I don't think I could go all winter without having smooth legs. I remember my friend telling me that one night her husband woke her up to tell her that her prickly legs woke him up! She moved against him while she was sleeping, and her bristly leg hair starlted him awake!

Tell your friend that if she just holds off, the hair goes from bristly to soft. It just needs to get a bit longer. Or as I've been told. Or, to look at the bright side. Keeps hubby's cold feet on HIS side of the bed...lol. I do shave during the winter, it's just a habit. I might go an extra day or two if I'm feeling lazy, but I just prefer the way it feels...like you do I guess. I do have lots of friends who don't bother though, so after polling my friends, it looks like 50/50. Of course, most of my friends are northerners, so maybe it's warmer. Ready for snow?

Isn't it crazy? Shorts weather today, coat weather tomorrow.

I too had noticed that the temperatures over the last two weeks or so were above the normal temperatures for this time of year, yesterday it was really cold, windy, and yucky out, and then today we woke up to some white stuff! Ugggghhhhh! I was hoping it was gone and Spring had sprung!

There's a saying that is common up north, were I'm from. Perhaps it's a truism in Canada too? That 'March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb'. That little saying hasn't applied to Oklahoma, at least in the 6 years that I've lived here. This year is looking a lot different. So, the lamb is coming! Keep your fingers crossed!

My friends all say I am lucky and/or weird because I have never, ever shaved my legs. The hair on my arms and legs is so fine and pale as to be almost invisible so I never started to shave as I heard that would only encourage is to grown back bristly.

My mom always said that if I did not shave it would all fall out when I was twenty. Not quite true. First of all, I did shave them, and feel guilty for being disobedient. I also did pull some out, because it was kind of sparse. I have noticed in the last ten or so years that I do not have hair on my arms or legs. I do shave occasionally under my arms, but it is almost unnecessary there as well. I do not know why it is that way, it just is.

Hi AmbiePam! I like you only have to shave my legs once every two or three weeks as the hair on both my arms and legs is very light, fine, and is barely noticeable! I have heard of women going all winter without shaving their legs though and I'm sure I have gone over the 2 or 3 mark a few times but overall I do shave them regularly.

Hi Amber! You made me ! Now, I have to admit that in the winter when it is really cold I can't wait to get in and out of the shower and get dressed really fast because my apartment is so damn cold! So there are times that I will skip shaving my legs until it is just a bit warmer in my apartment! But, I hate having hairy legs so I won't go too long because I am used to shaving at least once a week in the winter! In the summer I shave every other day because I like to have nice clean shaven legs with no stubbles and I have dark hair! But, I usually wear thermals or pants to bed still so the bf wouldn't notice anyway, plus he sleeps on the other side of the bed and rarely even notices that I'm even there!lol But, your story was funny! It has been warm here too, but not warm enough for me to care about shaving for shorts weather yet! I know it's still going to be chilly![em]wink[/em

I think women seeking revenge on their men should seriously consider prickly legs as a tool for that revenge.

Like you, my leg hair grows very slowly, and I shave my legs when I get really bored, cuz I can hardly see anything. My sister is called, "Cactus legs" because even when she shaves, her prickly leg hair is sharp when it grows back. Mine is very fine and soft and non-prickly like my head hair. Her hair on her head is very thick, maybe that is why.

We've been having gorgeous weather here too, what a difference from the same time when we were hit with a torrential rainstorm in the whole northeastern area, causing horrible flooding and many people are STILL without electricity I tend not to shave my legs as often in the winter, but do shave...in fact I shaved them just last night as my leg hair WAS getting kind of long and looked so tacky

I know Kissy and Pyewackets wondered if you were going to shave your legs, right? Because Sherlock is picky. Pets are just SO picky.

During the summer, I shave at least once a week, but in the winter time, it just depends. sometimes every other week or if I don't feel like it, I can go a month before shaving. But seriously, I prefer my legs to stay smooth, so if they get too prickly, I shave.

This discussion is too funny! I love it. First of all, I have a question for you! Your weather sounds very similar to ours here in Michigan. Where are you from? (I know I should know the answer, but I forgot - sorry!) We had days in the 60s, 70s, and 80s last week, but then it can drop to the teens in no time. You never can tell! Now to answer your question, I don't completely boycott shaving my legs in the winter because every once in a while, I like to have smooth legs. It's like a treat for me because I only shave for special events or when I really need to - LOL! Also, if I let them go for too long, when I get cold the combination of prickly legs and hair rubbing on my pants gets a little bit uncomfortable! I shave probably once every couple weeks like you in the winter. I don't have to do it too often since I'm in the process of getting laser hair removal. It has drastically slowed down the process of hair growth, but hopefully will stop the cycle completely by this summer so it'll be no more shaving forevermore! (LOL) I got it as a wedding gift. Anyway, painting my toenails gets completely boycotted in the winter because no one will see their beauty anyway. ha ha I'm completely with you on this discussion because if we're going to have horrible, cold winters, we definitely have to adjust our pampering to the weather! I don't want to waste my time when it's only going to get ruined by the coldness outside. Thanks for posting. What a fun discussion!

No I don't usually especially since I've been home. Hubby doesn't care, he likes smooth legs on me like any guy would but frankly w/ 3 lil kids & one bathroom there's not always alot of time to do such detailed tasks. But in summer I like to wear capri's then I only have to do my calves. ;0)

I do not shave near as much in the winter. I live in the north central part of the United States and it gets bitterly cold here. I do not see a need to shave my legs as often during the winter when I am wearing jeans and no one sees my legs anyway. Plus, I am a single mother with 4 children and we have 1 bathroom. There are times when I just cannot find time to shave or don't get the bathroom long enough to shave. So, that does change how often I shave during the winter. However, in the summer I shave every other day as I do not like the prickly feeling and do not like to have people see any stubble on my legs when I am wearing shorts. As for the weather, we went from 60's here to 5 inches of snow. I just got back from the doctor with my 4 year old and he has walking pneumonia because of the drastic weather changes. The snow has all melted now and we are back in the 50's. I am hoping that winter is finally over now.

I have to shave winter and summer because I can’t stand the prickly feeling of the hair growing back and even though I do wear mostly jeans and pants during the colder months I still like to shave my legs etc a couple of times a week. I’ve seen women with very long leg hair wear stockings and you can see the hair through the stockings; it looks awful!

hi ambiepam I used to have to shave my legs every two or three weeks until after I hit menopause. But for some reason the growth of leg hair on me dwindled and stopped. And finally I stopped shaving as there really wasn't enough there to hurt anyone. very fine and soft. Since then I have not shaved as I just do not have any hair, My legs are nice and soft and smooth. I never was one to have heavy leg hair growth but in the interests of having smooth legs I did keep them shaved. My hair on my head is rather fine too as I cannot even keep bobby pins in it to hold back my long hair.

Sounds like you are in the same weather pattern we are. I shave in the winter but not quite as often as I do in the summer. MY skin gets alot dryer in the winter and my husband works away from home for weeks on end, so I tend to only shave about half as often as I do in the summer months.
